Scarlett Johansson isn’t just the sexiest woman in Hollywood, she’s also the most bankable.

The curvy superstar is set to pocket a record-breaking $20 million to reprise her comic-book heroine role in an “Avengers” sequel, according to a published report yesterday.

Her Black Widow was such a hit, “Avengers” producers are willing to break the bank, Britain’s Sun reported.

The payday would top the standing record for an actress — $19 million reportedly earned by Angelina Jolie for “The Tourist.”

Superheroes are all the rage in Tinseltown nowadays, as “The Amazing Spider-Man” climbed to the top of the box office this weekend with $65 million in ticket sales. It has raked in $140 million since opening Wednesday.

Last week’s top finisher “Ted” — about a slacker and his hard-partying teddy bear — finished second, with $32.6 million in sales.

In third place was Pixar’s “Brave,” with $20.1 million in domestic sales.

I used 2015 as it's the highly speculated release date. When a more concrete one is announced, the mods can feel free to change it.

Yes, it'll look great taking the only female member of the team to this point off the roster...

They could just as easily throw Wasp in there, she's about as relevant to the mainstream audience as Widow.

The team is really HULK, Thor, Iron Man and Cap...the other two are just kinda there. They're certainly the least significant drawing cards of the bunch.

Replace BW and Hawkeye with Spider Man and Wolverine... then we have a real blockbuster.

There's nothing about Widow that justifies some massive paycheck hike, she's simply not that important. That's obvious.

If she were such a big drawing card, she'd be able to draw in an audience for a solo film, like every character I mentioned and Vigilante just mentioned is perfectly capable of.

Widow/Johanson is easily replacable by any generic hollywood 'hottie.'

This isn't a fucking popularity contest. It's about character, and even more than that it's about team dynamic. There are a dozen characters I'd love to see on the team that nobody's ever heard of, more than Spider-Man or Wolverine.

I think in my case and possibly along with some others is I want to see characters (Spider Man, Wolverine) align with the rest because of what Jackman and Maguire brought to the table to their roles over the past decade. Obviously Tobey is
no longer an option but...

seeing Wolverine mouthing off one liners with Iron Man? Definition of a wet dream right there folks.

Yes, because being the third highest grossing movie of all time isn't quite at that blockbuster level. They clearly need Spidey and Logan to be a real hit...

I've already said that it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a revolving cast for the movie. Cap, Iron Man, and Thor are widely concidered the holy trinity of the Avengers, so they could be the constant presence on the team, but otherwise as things progress the ranks of the team can grow, and those new members can have their chance to shine.

It could be neat to replace Widow and Hawkeye with Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and Captain Marvel (since he's a big Thanos enemy).

For some reason there's a part of me that would prefer to see them wait awhile before bringing Spider-Man and Wolverine into the team, if that becomes an option. I think part of it is that I just want to see what happens with this new Spider-Man series before he jumps to the big leagues.

'Iron Man 3's Don Cheadle: 'War Machine could be in The Avengers 2'

Cheadle's Iron Man 2 character James Rhodes, a confidant of Tony Stark, was absent from Marvel's record-breaking Avengers, but will feature in the upcoming Iron Man 3.

Speaking to Fandango at Comic-Con last weekend, the actor hinted that James Rhodes and his War Machine alter ego could also appear in the already-announced Avengers 2.

"The good thing about the Marvel Universe is that all the characters can intersect and everybody can play with each other," Cheadle hinted.

He went on to say: "So, that may happen just for War Machine on his own. We'll see. Everything's been discussed."

War Machine was played by Terrence Howard in the original Iron Man film, but Cheadle stepped in for the 2010 sequel.

Cheadle reunites with Robert Downey Jr in Iron Man 3, opening on April 26, 2013 in the UK and May 3, 2013 in the US.

Since this character joined the Avengers West Coast branch about the same time as when James Rhodes hopped on as War Machine, the bloke finally deserves some proper respect. I'm of course talking about.......DARKHAWK.
Along with the guy in the bucket helmet, NOVA, who along with a close freindship with Star-Lord, and a casual booty call with Gamora during the ANNIHILATION events, and fought to the end to stop Thanos with Star-Lord from escaping a collapsing universe. The Human Rocket's already close ties with the Guardians of the Galaxy, also a future feature film, could be a shoe in to insert into the next Avengers.

I dunno, I think that point for me would be whenever they make a Deathlok movie or something.

What's wrong with Deathlok ? Pretty cool character, or characters, as there were a couple with the name. The 1990 mini series I thought would be an excellent source for an adaptation. I even believe the anti-hero cyborg, whose existence preceeded Robocop, and DC's Cyborg by at least a decade and some change, was being looked at for a movie. Wouldn't be as off the wall as Blade, a third tier character at Marvel ending up bringing the comic book movie back from the dead.

Joss Whedon Officially Signed to Write and Direct Avengers 2

Disney chief Bob Iger announced during an earnings call with analysts that Joss Whedon will write and direct "The Avengers 2" and develop a live action Marvel-themed TV show for ABC.

Move comes after Whedon's "The Avengers" has earned nearly $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office and generated strong sales of "Avengers" merchandise. Its $616.8 million domestic haul makes it the third-highest-grossing film of all time, trailing "Avatar" and "Titanic."

"The Avengers" was the first film Disney marketed and distributed after Paramount released Marvel's "Iron Man" and its sequel, "Thor" and "Captain America."

There were no other details given on what Whedon's Marvel TV show would revolve around. ABC also is developing a reboot of its "Incredible Hulk" series with Guillermo del Toro.

Marvel already has dated "Iron Man 3," "Thor: The Dark World," "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" through 2014 and is developing a film based on "Ant-Man." An "Avengers" sequel is likely to bow in 2015.

Vin Diesel Uses Facebook to Campaign for 'Vision' Role in Avengers 2

Vin Diesel is on the campaign trail—and it has nothing to do with politics. The actor's using social media to get a gig in Marvel's Avengers sequel, and the Riddick star has his sights set on playing a certain android.

Using his Facebook page, Diesel dropped some anvil-sized hints that he wants to play The Vision. Several photos of the character appeared on his profile, as well as one of himself captioned, "True Vision." The images have since been removed, but they were up long enough to get the word out.

Perhaps this is all part of his plan? Shortly after the release of The Avengers, some fans suggested that Agent Coulson re-emerge as the hero. This might be Diesel's way of giving Joss Whedon and Marvel another option. Well played, Mr. Diesel. Well played.

Whedon will return to write and direct the Avengers sequel, which is scheduled for a summer 2015 release.

Think Diesel has a shot at Vision?

Hmmm... I kind of like the idea. He'd be alright.
