I was thinking of selling my box set, but then again, there are features included on it that are not included on the new DVD releases. Being the anal-retentive fan that I am, I'll hold onto the box set for now.

I sold my copies of the original DVD releases (that only included the trailer) long ago, though.

Im don't even wanna think about how many times I've purchased and re-purchased Star Trek and Friday the 13th on DVD....

Shit, I still have my original bare bones releases. I don't generally give away or sell anything, which is why I have a box full of DVDs that I've replaced with double dips.

I got $40 for my boxset on Amazon Marketplace, which paid for the purchase of the deluxe 4-6 with a few dollars to spare. A woo woo wee woo woo.

With what's being offered and the $40 I got back for selling the boxset, I don't feel too bad at all about rebuying these films.
I was going to hang onto mine for the features but I figured "what the hell" because it netted me about $20 trade. That & I'm moving soon so it was good to get rid of some stuff anyway. I didn't mind the $20 trade considering I only paid $30 for the set so I didn't really lose much anyway.

The "fan" audio commentary for "The Final Chapter" is a blast to listen to. And they have some wise words to say to folks who demand their horror movies have no humor in them.

"They hate HATE comedy in their slasher movies because they feel like it cheapens it, it takes them out of it. 'Why is it funny? I don't want it to be funny!' It's like who hates comedy? Like 'I fuckin' hate that movie! I hate to laugh! I hate laughing! Fuck laughing!"

Truer words, cats... Truer words.

Well, it depends on the kind of humor and the kind of horror movie really... some humor works with some kind of horror... some horror is naturally funny even if it's not intentional and some horror movies would be *cough*cheapened*cough* with humor.

For instance, if Hitchcock put "Teddy" from The Final Chapter in Psycho the movie would have been a piece of dung.

I just think that some directors could not make an effective horror movie without humor. Look at what McLoughlan said as the reason why he had humor in Jason Lives-- because he does not like slasher movies...

I think if the comedy is too broad, then that may be a problem in a horror movie. The paintball sequence in Part VI was a bit too much, but thankfully didn't have any more scenes like that.

How is it awful? They look great to me, compared to past transfers. What more were you expecting from low budget, early and mid 80s films?

I thought it was great quality too... hell on my HD TV in regular format looks great. These films will never look as good as a movie made today because of the age, but they looks so much better than the initial barebone DVDs we got in the late 1990's and early 2000s.

Hell, I have a standard definition 27 inch screen, and I can tell a big quality difference on that. So far, Part 2 (DVD, don't have a Blu-ray player) is the transfer I've been most impressed with when compared to the old DVD.

Just purchased and watched part 1 on blu ray, and it looks great. Sure, some night scenes were more grainy than others, but I'm amazed that it looks as good as it does. I can't wait to see the others in hi-def.

I'm assuming 4-6 will come to BD the same day the DVDs for TNB and JTM are released. I'm not sure when that means 7 and 8 will come out on BD though if Paramount keeps up the same release pattern.

I was wrong about picture quality being awful there was things hooked up wrong on my PS3.

The picture quality looks the best it has ever looked to me imo.

Not complaining but they could have put the TV scenes on TFC DVD same goes for 6.

Oh well im still happy but im gonna try to get someone here to do a fan edit of parts 4,6,7,9.

I'm gonna go a Part 4 edit.. I am working on the kills now, then the alternate ending... then the TV scenes (minus the ones not on the box set i.e. Tommy's mask scare, Rob's motion detector, etc) and then I will put them all together and see what happens.

I may do 6 as well...

I can see why they cut the Deputy Rick scene out originally.

It's a shame Paramount cut the other commentaries because they were equally great.

The Part 5 fan commentary was one of the funniest things I've ever heard in my life.

Im gonna try to get a fan edit of 4,,6,7 cause Paramount can never seem to throw everything into 1 disc. But yet they will waste space with some guy in a hoody.

Im done complaining about it im just gonna take action cause i think this is the end of the line for SE Releases for F 13th's. Ill find someone out there that can do this.

I think that Deputy Rick jail scene being cut was a good move. It's kind of a break from the story, doesn't really fit.

I think the scenes they cut out of 4 (later put back in for some TV versions) were also better left out. They do add some extra character development I suppose, particularly for Doug and Sarah, and yet they don't feel like they're needed. I think there's enough character development within what's in the film already. Some scenes, like Mrs. Jarvis telling Trish she's going jogging and telling her to get that battery or whatever it was, seem pointless, and later scenes establish those facts anyway.

As for Part 5, the version released theatrically and on DVD is superior. That "Version 2" is just strange (especially the editing around of Robin and Violet's death scenes), and cuts more than it adds.

Only a few scenes from the s V2 could be applied to the DVD version. Like he said, some things were cit so bad that it makes no sense.

I just got the bare bones because I thought for certain that these releases weren't ever going to happen. I truly did. I'm only going to get TFC and JL for certain. Too much good stuff to just ignore. The mockumentry for all three of these films, is it worth having?
