I prefer to look on the bright side of things and be happy about the things that were still in the vaults, not what could have been. I mean, we now can see the long awaited lost ending (albeit without the sound elements), one of the holy grails of Friday the 13th.

Yeah, it could have been much worse-- Paramount threw away (what they thought) was everything from the movies... they just happened to miss the box (or whatever) that contained these bits.

God, Danny Steinmann was totally worthless on the Friday 5 commentary. He didn't have a damned thing to say of note and mostly just contributed outright lies masquerading as "jokes".

They should have just had John Shepard, Shavar Ross, and the fan on the phone from Detroit, and it'd have been much much better. They actually had things of interest to say.

I agree. The ANB commentary was pretty much worthless, unfortunately.

Oh I agree. And I'm even content with the VHS footage of the censored gore scenes from JL and TNB, because at least we get to see this stuff.

And hey, maybe an effects guy or producer will end up discovering more footage in his garage or something one day. You never know.... :

Wouldn't it suck if somebody had such footage but sold it 13 years ago at a garage sale by accident?

I just finished listening to the crew commentary for The Final Chapter. Could've been better, and definitely could've used less silent spots with no one talking. Too bad Savini didn't take part in it.

When they did talk, Joseph Zito, Barney Cohen, and Joel Goodman mainly discussed effects and whether or not they actually filmed certain scenes. Most of the stuff they talked about was worth listening to though, stuff such as: Cohen's affection for upskirt shots, Crispin Glover visually appreciating his sex scene, and Barbara Howard being replaced for the shot of her ass against the shower door. The replacement was someone who had experience in the field of doing scenes like that.

I have to say, I really enjoyed the Friday the 13th Mockumentary going over the events of parts 1-6.

The making of retrospectives are nice additions as well.

Havent had time to check out the ANB commentary just yet, but apparently I'm not really missing much.

Crash Cunningham (CrashArmy.com) did the newspaper clippings, photoshopped pictures and things like that for the little mocumentaries. He did a good job in some of them.

ADDED:
I re-edited Jason's death... sick, sick, sick... when I can make sense of the sounds/score I will post a link to it.

I also did a really good cut of Jimbo's death, I need to color correct and get the score/sounds right.

Thanks, and I am hoping to make it convincing.

With the Part V commentary, I really think John Shepherd and Shavar Ross (being Christians) really enjoyed Steinmann's potty mouth, haha.

I liked the commentary though.

Someone at Paramount must really love the design of Roy's mask. And much like this flub on the Part VI cover, look at Jason having rather normal looking skin on the Part VII cover, despite how he looks in the film. He also doesn't wear gloves in Part VII, but there they are. These deluxe edition covers have had a pretty cool look in general, but they've had a lot of inaccuracies.

Not only is the mask wrong on the cover for 8, they've got the wrong city too. That looks nothing like Vancouver to me.

maybe Dominick Brascia designed the covers, wasn't he at one time under the impression that Roy was the killer in all the movies after part 5

It has got to be some sort of rights issues with Jason's mask? The art team for these new discs (from what I heard) are huge fans of the franchise, which means they know the difference.

There has got to be a reason for it.

I'm digging the covers for TNB & JTM except for the mask. Other than that, they're not too shabby. Better than the 4-6 covers.

I picked up the deluxe editions for 4-6 & the Killer Cut of Friday '09 today. Thank goodness for me having some DVDs to trade in. Woo woo woo.

I like the Jason Lives cover. If the stripes were not wrong it would have been much better.

Anyone care to post pics for 7 and 8? I can't find them using Google.

I also forgot to mention that I got rid of my box set today since I don't really need it AND the deluxe DVDs. I'm without TNB & JTM until the deluxe DVDs are out but it's not like I'd be wanting to watch either until then anyway since both are lower tier Friday movies.

Thanks DM. Yeah so I'm kinda pissed at TNB cover. It's Roy with gloves. Normal skin color... normal clothing, ANB mask...

And whats with the 4 inch knife? When the fuck has Jason ever used a knife that short???!?!?!

I sold my boxset not long after I got the 1-3 deluxe editions. I too saw no reason to have multiple releases, and with the superior picture and sound and some of the extras for the deluxe editions, I chose them as the versions I would own. I got $40 for my boxset on Amazon Marketplace, which paid for the purchase of the deluxe 4-6 with a few dollars to spare. A woo woo wee woo woo.

With what's being offered and the $40 I got back for selling the boxset, I don't feel too bad at all about rebuying these films.
