There is no way the footage that does exist( i.e. from the boxset) of TNB gore can be cleaned up?.....even being that it is videotape?

It's not just the fact it's a poor quality VHS, but also there's a timecode on there.
On a random sidenote, the old single releases of Friday 1-8 have all now been discontinued by the manufacturer. |

Bright side is, that the footage is digitized now. There will be no more deterioration. Who knows, technology may progress in a fashion where fans can remaster this stuff relatively cheaply and easily. Crazier things have happened. |

It can be, it would be labor intensive and costly... the timecode would have to be removed, the footage be matted to widescreen, audio cleaned up, etc.
No worth it for broadcast standards, just worth it to say that you have it. |

cropped out?
Here's me playing with the JGTH workprint, it took 5 minutes to do this... I am sure I can make it look much better given the time. This would have to be done and perfected frame to frame. Sharpened, the colors restores, corrected, sky colored, corrected, the shadows right, and so on. ![]()

I was thinking of that, though obviously it sacrifices a lot of picture. Still, if the footage could be cleaned up as well, I guess it'd be better than nothing. But it'd probably be rather costly to get that VHS TNB workprint footage to look anywhere near the quality of the rest of the film.
After Jason Lives not being unrated despite the much better condition of that workprint footage, I really doubt we'll get it here. Most we can hope for is a fan skilled in editing creating their own edits of these two films and spreading them around. |

This topic got me interested today, so I've been reading up on the algorithms used to restore old prints. Basically, you have a pixel on a slide that's damaged. If available, you look at the colors around the damaged pixel. Also, you look at the identical pixel in the frame before and after the frame you are looking at. Using this information, you interpolate the color. That's very cool! Of course, using a VHS source, the resolution of VHS is the upper limit.
When it is put that way, I'm much less awed with the process. Granted, there is a human, artistic aspect that I'm ignoring. However, a (free) program I used to use did something very similar with animation. You would have a few slides of animation, and it would use similar interpolation techniques to make the animation look smoother. |

I think there is other cut footage for F 13th part 7 other than the scenes shown on the box set. Like Jason carrying around dudes head outside,Jason in the tool shed with tools pictured behing him,Tina father alt make up, Jason holding his moms head when Tina sees vision and wrecks, And i thought Maddy and another girl had alt deaths ? Melissa getting the axe was probably alot more gorier also.
Part 6 Tom McLoughlin said there was a x cut that would of been nice cleaned up with Thom Matthews on commentary. And Alice Cooper Hes Back video which has NEVER been released on any professional format ? Part 5 Would of been nice to have seen a Version 2 get a release but oh well. |

Rich, she had no clue what I was talking about... just got a confused smile and no real response (nothing memorable anyway). Can't remember exactly what she said, as it was two years ago now. I think she just asked if I wanted someone to help show me how to get back to my car. I wish it was a veiled threat to have someone 'show me out', but she was being genuine... that place is a fuckin maze. |

I thought the TrueHD track on the BD for the original was really well done. It was really front-channel heavy, as expected, but the score was just so surprisingly clear. Not a revelation by any means, but it was a bigger improvement than I was expecting.

If they are going to eventually release a Part 7 Blu-Ray and slap a $30 SRP on the thing, then I excpect more then just the film. This sucks big time, because I was really looking foward to a nice Part 7 special edition. They claim to have gone over budget and over time? Heaven forbid a multi-million (or billion?) dollar company like Paramount Pictures/Viacom should put any effort into anything.

Well, generally BD's cost more because you are getting more-- a high definition version of the movie.
And they may start at 30, or 25, or whatever but I guarantee after a couple months you can get them new on Amazon from third party sellers for $14.99. |

I'm sure all the new F13 BDs will easily be found for $20 or less, just like the first one. That's more than a reasonable price for even a feature-less BD.

I paid $20 for my uncut/unrated Friday the 13th (1980) Blu-Ray which was packed with extra features at Walmart. That was a damn good price considering everything the release offered AND the fact that it was a Blu-Ray and not a DVD.
Even $20 is kind of steep for a barebone product, high definiteion or not. At least for MY money it is.

Well, considering the barebones DVDs were $30 nearly ten years ago, I'm gonna have to say that I can stomach a barebones BD being $20. I mean, a product that's twice as good that costs a third less? Yeah, I'm not complaining.

I wonder if the deleted stuff they found for 8 might make the film a little better?

I don't think it's being spliced back into the film, and in my opinion the only way to make that film better is cut the film negative right after Jason kills Jim and his girlfriend in the boat.

Seriously, is there someone who could update, say with a really simplified summary of what's coming out soon for DVD and blue ray, including what extras we know about, etc.? This thread gets confusing after a while. jb

That's about the only part I can even remotely consider canon.
