The films are better off doing their own thing. Why drag characters into it from the games, when they're nothing like those characters, and don't really do anything? Same with the monsters really, the firts film hinted at some research with the Licker, and then we had Nemesis. Even Extinction was having advance research as a method of introrducing a few Crimson Heads and one so-called Tyrant. But suddenly, we have zombies with gaping mouths and whatever the hell the Executioner is.

I actually think Extinction is overall the strongets film because it's doing more it's own thing. But four, I think was a mess, as both a film and a game adaptation.

What's the point of makign Wesker a generic "uber-villain"? Seriously? He's not the kind of guy who randomly shoots some guy in a head to show how bad ass he is... and the less said about the "eating people" thing the better!

The entire franchise is a mess, filled with generic characters, bland cannon fodder, and an incoherent through-arc.

But at least Afterlife was fun. I recall thinking Extinction was the least interesting, but I've only seen it once. I'll probably check it out again before Retribution hits theaters, just to refresh the memory. Who knows, I may enjoy it a lot more the second time around.

Probably not, as the reference to his death in Apocalypse goes by so fast your head will spin trying to catch it. I wonder if this film will follow up on the newspaper's contents? It suggests that Leon and Jill were partners, and that Leon died due to something Jill did.)

Chris was an okay character in Afterlife, but... well, there wasn't much to it, was there? He's got practically nothing to do. I'm hoping they'll develop him in Retribution, along with Claire, because at the moment his involvement is token. It's nice, but it's token.
I thought Miller looked sorta similar as if Chris had shaves his head. Although that just brings the question up about how he did so while hanging out in a cell and why people who absolutely refused to trust him (for the faultiest reasonings to begin with) would bother letting have a razor...and clothes. Clean clothes.

Best just not to think of it I guess.

I agree about Chris and what he had to do. I mean, he was there simply to go "look, a game character!" and that was about it other than his "Claire, it's me your brother" bit which really didn't matter in the long run. Hell, Claire didn't really seem to care. Sorta reminded me of Claire herself as she could easily have been replaced with a new character in the series and it wouldn't have made a difference other than, once again, "look, it's a game character!". Eventually Anderson will run out of characters to do that with. >_<

I figure they'll ignore the newspaper clipping since it was more of an easter egg sort of deal. Didn't it mention the mansion incident or something even though through all the explanations of the events given it didn't really seem like it actually happened.

First Ginger Snaps and now this. It's like you've been reading my mind as I agree. I think Extinction was the strongest of the films because it finally got away from comparing it to the game series. It set everything up to where the events were now totally different which meant the characters could easily act different from what we're used to as well (compared to the games). That's one of the (many) flaws I found in Apocalypse and why I was a bit apprehensive of Afterlife although it seems to be more of a middle ground between the two.

Something I'd like to see addressed is the cure. At the end of the third film, Alice is told there's a cure that can be created. This is completely dropped by the next movie.

Yeah, it's sort of how I never bother asking how other characters are wearing nice designer clothes when the world has been dead for so long, or how some of the zombies appear to have really nice haircuts. It's one of the things you just ignore.

As for the newspaper article, all I remember is that it talks about S.T.A.R.S. and Jill getting Leon killed. I assumed it was something that went down between the Mansion/Lab incident and Alice waking up in a destroyed Raccoon City.

A number of extras and crewmembers working on director Paul W.S. Anderson's new Resident Evil film have been hospitalized following a set collapse in Canada on Tuesday.

Cameras stopped rolling on the Toronto set in the early hours of Tuesday when a wheeled platform inside the Cinespace Film Studios crashed to the ground, injuring 12 actors dressed as zombies and four members of the production team.

Emergency services were called to the scene, although they had trouble establishing how badly the actors had been hurt due to the fake bandages and blood they were covered with for their roles as the undead for the forthcoming fifth installment of the Resident Evil film franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Ten of the victims were taken to a local hospital for further treatment, although none of the injuries are considered life-threatening, according to police reports.

The sci-fi movie's star Milla Jovovich was not onset at the time of the accident, which TMZ.com claims is now being investigated by officials from the Toronto Police Department and the Ministry of Labor.

Some photos of Leon and Barry for all of two people that may care:

Some vids of Ada in costume, Milla, Rodriguez, etc:

An Ada Wong photo here, but the real gem is the catchphrase by Milla. Gogovich?

Is that really Barry? Jesus, looks nothing like how I'd expect him to look.

Ada and Leon though... yikes! Talk about ripping the costumes right out of the games!

I agree about Barry. That bottom photo sorta looks like Jeremy Piven or something. Can't say I'm all that impressed with the casting for him considering the films have a track record of getting actors to look like mirror images of the game characters.

Er, I'd say Jill from the film looks like Jill from the game. Heck, most of the characters strongly resemble their video game counterparts.

Now as far as their demeanors, actions and what not, well, that's an entirely different story.

Is Jill the one from Resident Evil 5? Because she did have a nice ass in that, just saying.

Yep.

Here she is in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and the film Resident Evil: Apocalypse.

I just remembered that, while I disagree with Scare on the examples he used as those like Jill and Wesker look spot, Claire looks similar other than the outfit, and Chris kinda looks ok but could be better if he grew his hair out, I forgot about Carlos and Nicholai. Carlos isn't bad in the movie other than his hair so I'd toss him in the Chris pile, but Nicholai...eh, I have no idea what the thought process was there.

Jill was in it briefly, toward the end.

Sheva, on the other hand... dear, sweet Sheva.

They get the costume right and all, sure. But the characters themselves? No way, they just don't look right at all. Jill especially is far too 'hard featured' in the films, I think. I mean, I know they have to cast these roles and all, and it's never going to eb exact, but I don't think they chose people that suited. Anyone can cosplay and that does a lot of the work... but I don't think they actually *look* anything like the characters. Wesker even more so, whose practically a nazi pin-up in most of the games.

Interesting. When I first saw it, I thought it was an advert when it started up. Anywho, I wonder if this revelation about Alice is that the Alice we've known since the first flick has a clone/creation of Umbrella, and the real one met her end, or is still around. Shades of the Clone Saga Spidey. With this trailer being released with UNDERWORLD:AWAKENING , being a mock advert, flashes me back to the first UNDERWORLD with the teaser for RE:APOCALYPSE showing before it.

Michelle is back! didn't she die in the first one? i lost track of this series awhile ago.

that trailer alone was better than all of RE4.

i loved the first one though, so i may give this a chance.

I'm in the same boat for the Resident Evil series along with the Twilight series. I started watching both of them from part 1 and I'm way too far into it now to stop. I'm actually looking forward to it.

I know its going to be laughably bad, so I'm going in with no expectations and just going to enjoy the movie for the simplicity of what it is. Its about Alice doing what she does best, fighting monsters along with some expendable characters who are with her.

Trailer looks great

This movie looks awesome, but for all of the wrong reasons.

It looks even better than Afterlife, but for all the wrong reasons.

I've grown to love these films again, but for all the wrong reasons.

Can't wait to see it!
