Default Could a German-speaking member help me out, please?

I've been busy trying to reformat my old P.O.S. desktop and get it back in it's original form so that I can record music on it. However, I lost the CD that installs my drivers for the Sound Card that I use for my Microphone.

I went to M Audio's website and it provided the drivers, but when I install them I get this funky error message that tells me "dpinitinterfacefailed" then a screen that tells me that there's currently no M Audio devices hooked up to the machine, when there most certainly is.

Anyway, I found this site that seems to have an answer to the question; but it's completely in German! In fact, I found a handful of other sites, but they are in German as well. This one seems to have the most clear cut answer however.

If you could translate the first post by souljim, the second post by souljim, the post by FoRoeMC, and then the final post well I would just think you were the cat's pajamas.

Thank you.

Hi, I fomrated my PC today and also reinstalled the audio dricer cd. Then suddenly some error-messages like "there might be trouble continuing the installation". Then I downloaded the driver from the m audio site (I thought the download was sucessfull). Well, I started winamp and wanted to hear some music in order to relax and I get "Bad direct sound blaster Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration. Error:88780078....". I started cubase but still no sound. I clicked the audio control panel in the taskbar and found " dpInitInterfaceFailed", Does anybody have any advice for me to get my card running again?

2nd by souljim:
hm, I have a pentium 4 xp home dition. I did not understand most of your advice, I am no Informatiker (that´s a german job-discription for a guy who is working with computers professionaly, I am too lazy too look up the translation).
other slot= card in other plugthingie(=slot)?
Where can I deactivate onboard?
new chipset-driver? hm, I went to the m-audio-site, so that must be the newest. Or do you mean something else?
sSrry. This sucks a lot, I just wanted to make some music. Thanks.

Its me again with a new question because my sense of remembering doesn´t seem to work too good. I have sound again, runs smooth too, but I just started cubase for the 1st time and it asked me automaticaly for synchronizations, I did that and got an eror-message. I ignored it until I wanted to play something (I think he means "record something"; I don`t know that program).
How do I regulate the latency in cubase so that this annoying time-lag goes away, because this sucks on so many levels.

thanks

answer by foroe mc
You just have to select the asio driver of the m-audio in cubase (configurate hardware (or equipment?) vst multitrack). You can´t change the latency of the soundcard in cubase but in the control panel of the constructor ... which is m-audio in your case..

Final answer by souljim:
Yes, exactly. Thanks. that clears everything.
this thread can be deleted.

Should I tranlate the post by this MPC2000xp something-guy as well?

No thanks, Germaniac! I sat the PCI card over again, and installed the drivers. Then messed with the latency for a little while and it eventually kicked over. Thanks a lot for all your help, both of you.

Back to making that music!

This isnt a translation but didnt know where else to put this. How does tipping work in Germany. I am in France right now and will be in Germany all next week and wanted to make sure I treat waiters and bartenders right.

A tip of 5 to 10% is the regular percentage here (which is about half of what you are expected to tip in the USA).

Do they put a tip in the bill automatically like in France or is it strictly customer driven like US? Any recommendations for Berlin, Frankfurter or Munich as far as sights, entertainment, or food?

Tip´s are strictly customer driven.
As for food: You have to try "Döner Kebab". It´s actually turkish fast-food.You can eat Döner all over Germany but Berlin has the best Döner´s. When in Frankfurt I guess you have to eat some of those "Frankfurters" (sausages). Beside Schnitzel (Jägerschnitzel is my favourite), Sauerbraten and Rouladen I hate most of the traditional german food. Rotkohl is good, but I hate all the other Kohls like Rosenkohl. Whatever you do: Stay away from Sauerkraut (I like "Weisskraut", especially in Döners)! I love German breakfast with "Mettbrötchen with Zwiebeln" (roll with minced meat and onions)

Sights in Berlin: The Reichstag (and all the opther governmental buildings there), the Brandenburg-Gate (it´s right next to the Reichstag), the Potsdamer Platz, the Kurfürstendamm (aka the Kudamm, a long shopping Boulevard; you can find the famous ruins of the Gedächtniskirche there as well), Checkpoint-Charly (All obvious choices). The Siegessäule and the Alexanderplatz are also famous spots (although not that important than the others, IMO).
Munich: If you are there from September 19 to October 4th you have to go to the "Oktoberfest". It´s a big fair (with lots of beer) that Munich is famous for. It will certainly strengthen any prejudices that foreigners have towards germans/bavarians (oldfashioned, drunken guys in Lederhosen who eat Sauerkraut) but a.) only the Bavarians eat//behave and look that way and b.) Munich only looks that way during the Wiesn. The Biergarten in the "Englischer Garten" is also very good and tourists have to check out the Hofbräuhaus of course. The Bavaria-filmstudios would be worth for filmfans. You can check out sets/props for the "Neverening Story" (you ride that white dragon) or walk through the submarine from "Das Boot" (Don´t expet it to be as amazing as universal Studios though).
As for Frankfurt am Main (there is also a Frankfurt / Oder in East Germany): I never actually been there. Only passed through it by train a couple of times (it has an amazing skyline). But i guess the Hauptwache and the Römerberg are obvious tourist choices.
As for partying in those cities: It´s been over ten years since I´ve been there for partying-reasons so I can´t give you any good tips. I have fond memories of the Knaack-club in Berlin ( http://www.knaack-berlin.de/ ).
Another big city in Germany that´s worth checking out would be Hamburg. A walk through the Reeperbahn is a must for Tourists (spending money there is another thing ).

Thanks man. Weve had a lot of fun in Berlin. Went on a walking tour of the city with a guide. Ton of history in the city. Saw the Gate, Holucaust memorial, and the concentration camp in Orianensberg. Thats a very powerful experience.

We hit Munich on Friday and I will definitely frequent Oktoberfest! I will be trying all the food you suggested too. Thanks for all the help!

I had a donner kebab in Incirlik Turkey, but when I bit into it... I saw a long, thick, black hair sticking out of the top....
Still makes me want to vomit to this day.

My sister visited last week; on her way over here she stopped by the Alpine Deli and bitched to me she can no longer buy Rouladen mix. Apparently, The Department of Homeland Security deemed it a dangerous product. I didn't know there was a mix for that sort of thing....

I miss the food. We don't have any German restaurants over here.
Der Weinerschnitzel doesn't count...
