The "new" campaign in which you play Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, is that you get to play the flashback to the mansion that ends in Jill and Wesker falling to their "Deaths", supposedly.
Nothing too exciting, I'll probably get it anyway.
Hell, I own RE4 for the GC, PS2, and Wii.

I'm more excited for the Operation Javier section of Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, and it isn't too long of a wait for that.

Default Re: Resident Evil (RE5 re-released with new content)

That seems the obvious setting for the new campaign, but since they're calling it a campaign rather than a "chapter", I'm hoping it'll be at least a little more substantial than that.

I'm not very excited at all about The Darkside Chronicles at the moment because I don't own a Wii. However, now that Sony is releasing the Motion Controller, and given Capcom's track record with porting Nintendo "exclusives" to a Sony system, I'm crossing my fingers that they'll port The Umbrella Chronicles and The Darkside Chronicles over to the PS3. Hell, they could fit them both on a single Blu-ray disc.

ADDED:
Incidentally, it might be worth pointing out that some beta concept art for RE 5 has hit the net, and in it we see some stuff that's not in the final game: one image features Wesker carrying an unconscious Jill (looks to be after they go out the window, as they're in front of what looks like a mountain side), and there's art that suggests Sheva is captured at some point by Excella and Chris teams up with Jill during that time.

See it here.

According to Famitsu, the game will feature both Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, and the scenario will last approximately 2 hours.

Jun Takeuchi:
- The extra element was planned from the beginning of the game production
- The size is too big to be a DLC
- Co-op
- Jun Takeuchi's 1st gameplay was about 1 hr 40 minutes.
- New game mode is scheduled (unsure what it means)
- For 360 it will be prepared in a different form
- There will be new costumes and outfits

Horseshit. The creators of Fallout 3 have released some extremely extensive DLC for that game. There's no way this 2 hour campaign is too big to offer for download.

And if it was planned form the beginning, why didn't they just delay the game by a couple of months and be done with it? (Of course the answer is simple: they'd much rather try and sell it twice.)

ADDED:
More extensive list of information, and pictures:

Quote:
Credit to BIOHAZE

Jun Takeuchi and Miho Suzuki on Biohazard 5 Alternative Edition:

Code:
- Capcom came up with the name "Alternative Edition" because the term "Complete Edition" didn't seem appropriate when considering the adequacy of the original package.

- Capcom wanted to place the new content in the original release, but felt that the game was adequate already, and wanted to get it released soon.

- When the original game was released, players expressed their desire to play as Jill.

- Capcom originally proposed to make the new content downloadable, but there was too much content for that.

- The game begins at the entrance of the Spencer Mansion featured in the flashback of the original game, but fans of the original Biohazard will certainly love the new content.

- The Spencer mansions in Biohazard and Biohazard 5 are indeed separate.

- The game is intended for the PS3 Motion Controller. The series' combat system warranted the addition of the motion controls. The game uses the Dual Shock 3 to move the characters, while the Motion Controller is used for attacking and other functions.

- All the DLC content for the original release can be enjoyed on the Biohazard 5 Alternative Edition disc. Players can play with or against players of the original Biohazard 5.

- Owners of the original can transfer their game saves, trophies, etc. to Alternative Edition.

- Capcom is thinking about adding new costumes and game modes as well.

- The blood in the main hall of the mansion symbolizes that an incident has occurred, and gamers will understand as soon as they step in what that incident was.

- The original Biohazard was a game that did not have a cooperative aspect to it, though Biohazard 5 Alternative Edition will have it in spite of their similar environments.

- The behind-the-shoulder camera will be used, although if you noticed from the screenshots, there are no enemies present…

- When asked whether the enemies with be majinis or zombies, with regards to this chapter, Capcom is making preparations for the type of enemies to be included, especially since the setting is Spencer's mansion, with him actually living there.

- Capcom believes the game will have the types of rooms and locations fans are expecting.

- Takeuchi finished just Jill's episode in 1 hour and 40 minutes, but that is because he is an experienced player. New players should take around 2 hours the first time. Of course, this isn't the only new content being included…

- Capcom understands that there are varying tastes for the Biohazard series up to this point.

- Players who both played through Biohazard 5 and have yet to try it will enjoyed Alternative Edition. Capcom would like buyers of the new PS3 Slim to try the game out, as well.

- Capcom is preparing the Xbox 360 version in a different form, and asks gamers to wait for more information on that in the future.

I'm with Jeans on the horseshit call. The first DLC for Fallout 3 easily lasted me two and a half hours, and it's an extremely linear mission with very little side tracking. Takeuchi is full of shit in this case.

Default Re: Resident Evil (RE5 re-released with new content)

I know this is a business and they're out to make money, but this shit is getting stupid. It's obvious the only reason they're not offering this as DLC is because they want people to go out and buy the entire game again, shelling out another $60 bucks in the process (and that doesn't even include the cost of the Motion Controller and PlayStation Eye, both of which people will have to buy if they want to play the game with the new control settings. At least Capcom have the good sense to keep the traditional control setup in the game, too.)

I told a friend of mine about this today, and he said, "There's no way I'm going out and buying the game again. I spent $90 goddamn dollars on the Collector's Edition, I'm not about to dump another sixty."

He then told me he'd buy the campaign if they offer it for download, but he refuses to double dip. I'm not sure I'm so strong. I'll probably end up selling off my original copy and putting the money toward the new one, or I might wait until the price drops to $20. Whatever I do, I'm really not happy about the situation.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new campaign is put up for download six or eight months after the disc version is released.

The voting is done and Capcom have decided how to bring Resident Evil 5's Director's Cut content to the States and Europe. Both the PS3 and 360 will get the additional content as DLC come spring 2010.

Quote:
And here’s an example of Capcom Unity in action: based on your feedback, in North American, European and Australia territories, Capcom will be making the new RE5 content for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 available as downloadable content. You will not be asked to purchase a new copy of the game just to get at the new stuff, just make sure to hold on to your RE5 disc and you’ll be ready to roll in Spring 2010 when we make available new Resident Evil adventures (and some other things we haven’t told you about yet) for you. Keep that in mind when thinking about selling RE5 back or handing it off to a friend

Resident Evil 2 was released on the PSN this week for $5.99. I wonder if we will ever see a remake of the game?

I imagine we will, as Shinji Mikami seems to find the idea intriguing.

As far as buying it over PSN, I own the GameCube version so there's no reason to. Not that I would anyway, as the PS3s with software emulation have proven themselves pretty unreliable at playing PS1 games.

more info on the RE5 DLC:

Quote:
The upcoming Alternative Edition DLC for Resident Evil 5 is going to include much more than motion controller support for PS3 and the "Lost in Nightmares" flashback episode. The latest issue of Japanese mag Famitsu notes that Capcom has two additional surprises for players: new costumes and new characters for a revamped "Mercenaries Reunion" as well as an extra, yet-to-be-revealed chapter.

All this content will be released as four separate DLC packs:

* "Lost in Nightmares" Episode - 400 ($5)
* Costume Pack 1 - 160 ($2)
* Costume Pack 2 - 160 ($2)
* Additional TBA Episode - 400 ($5)

These prices are only confirmed for Japan, but it's unlikely the US release will be too different

Some of the new content details:

Quote:
Lost In Nightmares

It seems this scenario will be puzzle based and is split into 4 parts.
1)This part take place in a REmake-like mansion. There's no enemies, but the gamers will have to solve various puzzles to advance.
2)After the mansion, this part take place in a jail/torture chamber area, where the executioner-type enemy that was revealed a couple of days ago, shows up here. You'll have to solve puzzles again, to advance.
3)The characters landed in the sewer, where they lost all their items. A couple of those executioners show up here and it means you're screwed, unless you goes to operate the spiked walls by the cranks
4)Here's where you battle Wesker

Desperate Escape

This scenario depict Jill and Josh's trying to escape in RE5 and is more action based.
1)You'll be attacked by various enemies, especially those Plaga-headed troops. This take place in the refinery area.
2)Pretty similar to the first, but you'll face with those launcher-troops. Here's where Jill contacts Chris about Wesker's weakness in the main game. Both of them took off in a chopper to where Sheva/Chris are.
3)Apparently you'll have to survive in an extreme battle or sort for several minutes.

I wonder if these characters will be playable in Versus?

Are these DLC packs kind of like the one's for Assassins Creed 2 where they take place like before the last stage? The AC2 DLC stages are chapters/sequence 12 and 13 and the reg game goes from 11 to 14 and they said that the extra chapters don't really effect the ending but I think they do, at least with 12 it had stuff that pretained to the story as I have held off on beating the game so I can play it in its full order so after 12 I've just been looking for feathers and waiting for 13 which comes out this week I believe?

But is that how these pack for RE5 will work or are they ment for after you beat the game? I did finally pick up RE5 but haven't really played it. I think I'm barely at the 2nd maybe 3rd chapter in it and was kind of holding off on playing it because of hearing this. I picked it up used for like twenty sum bucks and figured it would be better to get that and then just DL the content as opposed to paying $50-60 for the alt edition to have it all in one...

I know the new content definitely takes place during the game for sure. At least the Jill one does, because all the sudden she shows up at the end and it covers how she got there. The other stuff, not sure entirely, but I would imagine. Otherwise it'd be just a random short game, no?

The first bit of DLC is not integrated into the game -- it takes place three years prior to the game, and is accessed from the game's main menu. However, if you've played through the main game, then you're familiar with where the DLC takes place (in the Spencer mansion, where Chris and Jill confront Wesker).

The second DLC stage is set during chapter 6, and follows how Jill and Josh escape while Sheva and Chris are hunting and fighting Wesker. Whether that will also be accessed from the main menu or incorporated directly into the campaign somehow remains to be seen, but I imagine both scenarios will be incorporated the same way Ava's Separate Ways campaign is incorporated into Resident Evil 4: as its own miniature campaign.

I have now purchased the RE5 DLC. It is currently downloading. I picked up Lost in Nightmares, as well as Costume Pack 01 (Sheva is hawt in the Fiarytale getup).

I fucking cannot wait to play Barry Burton in The Mercenaries. There ended up not being an option for either/or on the Barry/Rebecca front, I think they just decided to bundle each character with each DLC pack.

This is the first game that I've purchased all the DLC for as soon as it landed. This is my DLC game.
