Imo, it's the worst. It's all left up to opinion.

Other then Jessica Lang, Kong 70s has not one redeeming quality to it. He only fights one monster. The Kong in a suit thing does not work like it does for Godzilla. I think it is a terrible movie. It is definitely the worst. Actually, the only Kong movie that is worse is King Kong Lives. Now THAT was THE worst of Kong.

I think Jeff Bridges is great in the film (but then again, when is he not?). Charles Grodin is good in it as well. The three characters of the film are much more interesting characters than Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong, and Bruce Cabot of the original. Especially Jessica Lange, who actually engages in discourse with Kong rather than merely screaming in his palm.

I think the best part of KING KONG '76 is Kong. The suit looked good and Rick Baker did a good job acting in it. I'd say Kong is the most interesting and likeable character in the film. The tree-hugging hippie vs. the greedy oil man thing between Jeff Bridges and Charles Grodin is too heavy-handed, and Dwan often strikes me as too self-centered and rather dim.

I've heard that one of the reasons they didn't have dinosaurs or anything like that in this film is because Dino De Laurentis made the filmmakers blow a large wad of cash on the mechanical Kong that's only used in a few shots. I wonder what they would have done if they hadn't had to do that.

Darth, I would go so far as say that Kong in the 1976 film is his best portrayal ever. He feels like a real character in the movie (or at least the most sympathetic), not just an angry pugilist (1933) or a big ape (2005).

What about Toolbox Murders, 2001 Maniacs and Little Shop of Horrors remakes?

Heh, yeah. I grew up watching KING KONG '76. I didn't understand half of the things that were going on in most of the film and I didn't care (although Jessica Lange's figure and oh so brief hints of nudity were fun), I was waiting for the King to show up. It's just a shame they blew all of that cash on the robot (if the story's true) because even if they decided not to go with dinosaurs I think there were opportunities for some fun fist fights that were totally missed. Imagine Kong slugging it out with a giant alligator, or a giant bear or something.

Speaking of fist fights, I think it's fun to think about this Kong going up against Godzilla because it's a man in a suit verses a man in a suit.

Darth, that story is true. De Laurentiis blew a shitload of money on that robot Kong that appeared all of 30 seconds onscreen... And he also tried to claim this robot is what they used to shoot the whole movie with.

The problem with today's horror film remakes is that the quality of the script and ingenuity has failed and the characters are stereotypical and if that is not the case, then it is almost a scene by scene rehash. Much of these traits represent and describe the pathetic examples of remakes and non-original material you see spewed out of the company Platinum Dunes, and out of the unoriginal one man genre assassin himself who runs that enterprise.

Nah... I'm sure they'll be promoting either GM or Ford vehicles in the movie...Heck, maybe Dodge/Chrysler might get a plug or two in as well...

I think with "Fred Krueger" and the weapon, does that trump our suspicions of innocence before death?
