Thread: The Amityville Series Thread

    Default The Amityville Series Thread

This series is lengthy enough, so I figured it might need a thread all to its own.

When I was little, the original Amityville Horror used to freak me out. Now, not so much, but I do still enjoy it.

Amityville 2: The Possession was freaky in its own right, but I've not seen it in years. When I was younger, possession movies really bothered me, so I think I watched it once and tried to put it out of my head. Remember next to nothing about it except for Burt Young (Paulie dere) carrying a gun at some point.

I don't recall ever seeing Amityville 3-D/Amityville 3: The Demon, although I do own the DVD. Need to finally get around to watching that.

I always got Amityville 4: The Evil Escapes mixed up with The Amityville Curse. I don't believe I've seen this one either.

The Amityville Curse is actually pretty decent. At least, I remember it being so. Again, probably not watched this one since age 12 or so, but I remember liking it a lot. In finding these pics, I'd never noticed before but on the cover art for the re-release on VHS by Starmaker, they erased the image of the person hanging from the tree (see above). Interesting.

    Amityville 1992: It's About Time

    Amityville: A New Generation

    Amityville Dollhouse

The Amityville Horror remake, I didn't care much for. Not bad enough to hate or watch as a fun/cheesy bad movie. Just bland and kind of there. More forgettable than anything.

The Amityville Haunting... this just looks awful. And again, I wonder if the guys at Asylum actually obtained the rights to the franchise or if they were somehow skirting it. I don't see how you can use the house's famous image and the name "Amityville" in regard to a horror movie and now somehow owe MGM or the current rightsholders something.

For fans of the original story/book, I highly recommend both of the History Channel's History's Mysteries documentaries on the ordeal. They cover the original DeFeo murders, as well as the alleged hauntings, the book, movie, and hoax allegations. Very interesting.

    Any fans of this series?

I just bought the boxset with 1-3 (and the bonus disc) a few days ago. So far I've watched the first and second one. I really liked The Possesion better than the first. I saw the remake when it first came out. It bothers me that the only thing I can remember about that movie was a lot of shirtless Ryan Reynolds

For some reason, seeing the hanging person cover for Amityville Curse is one of my main childhood video store memories.

My favorite is Amityville 1992. I really enjoyed watching that one when I was a kid. There's some crazy stuff going on in that movie and most importantly, Megan Ward is in it. Watching the scene with her and a mirror while I was going through puberty...

Okay, wait... I made a mistake. It's Amityville 4 that I've seen and not Amityville Curse.

I wonder why Curse has never been released on DVD?

That's the mystery I wanted to know. The movie is released on DVD is other countries but the one it was made in. You can see it online though.

I've seen all the movies except for "Dollhouse" and this "Amityville Haunting" movie that just came out.

Curse is the only one I haven't seen, but I'll rectify that...soon. Once the Amityville Tapes thing looks like it's definitely a go and will be released, I'll probably blow through the entire series. May god have mercy on my soul.

I just watched Amityville 3 for the first time in October and I can remember all kinds of shit from it. Actually, all I remember is all kinds of shit exploded at the end.

It is a goal of mine to one day get through the series as well, 'cause it's about time I did. 3 didn't exactly coax me to jump at the next ones, though.

I've never been a huge fan of the series. I do like the original, but other than that, I really can't watch the other ones.

Even the original...while it is good, it does tend to drag at times and starts to bore me.

Watched Amityville 3-D last night. It....wasn't good. It was cool to see a young Meg Ryan and Lori Loughlin though.

IMO, The Amityville Haunting is another ripoff from Asylum. I don't consider it part of the series unless I hear it officially. Since Amityville is a name of a town, I can see how they can use that without getting sued. It's like how other companies use the word KONG when they make a gorilla movie, yet it has no relation to the official King Kong series.

I think I saw the Amityville Curse.
If it's the same one I'm thinking of it was terrible and the audio was out of sync I think.
Terrible. I thought it was dubbed from another language.
I'm pretty sure I have seen all of them, except the one about the clock.
I remember very little about any of them past the first 3 though.

I liked both the original and the Platinum Dunes remake very much. I thought part 3 was okay. I haven't seen any of the others I am looking foward to the new lost tapes one coming out this year.

I might pick up the remake next time I see it somewhere. I believe Big Lots has it pretty cheap, but I'm not too sure.

The re-make is god awful , but i did like the original and the second one (amityville II - the possession)..Burt Young puts in a decent shift ("Schmoke Pweist ?")

The third installmenmt is a proper turd sandwich ,but Dollhouse wasn't too bad if memory serves.

Big Lots has had the first three Amityville flicks for $3.00 each, as well. Not sure if they still do, but they did at one time.

After the third film, you really need to feel compelled to delve any further into the DTV sequels. Not that they didn't have their moments though. Amityville: It's About Time comes to mind with the scene with the daughter getting turned on by watching herself in the mirror. The mirror image then reaches out and starts to feel up the real version of the girl and.....it's just better to see the clip to get the idea. Thanks to Cody for posting it over two years ago:

I don't know what that classifies as. Self gratification? Incestual shenanigans?
But Jamie's character in The Fog was really easy wasn't she? Get in my truck and get in my bed - in that order.
