Default A Nightmare on Elm Street: Rebooting the Reboot

So this is apparently the next step. Go figure.

Another Nightmare on Elm Street Reboot Reportedly in Development

New Line Cinema is reportedly look to reboot horror franchise A Nightmare on Elm Street ... again.

"Plans are to scrap the lackluster 2010 reboot and start with a fresh new take," according to The Tracking Board. "There’s no producer on board yet, but Orphan scribe David Leslie Johnson has been tapped to script. Toby Emmerich, Walter Hamada, and Dave Neustadter will oversee for New Line."

Johnson was also announced this week as scripting Warner Bros.' new Dungeons & Dragons movie. His other screenwriting credits include Wrath of the Titans and the forthcoming sequel to The Conjuring.

The Elm Street franchise began in 1984 with director Wes Craven's classic, spawning another seven films until the series was rebooted in 2010 by Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes with Jackie Earle Haley as slasher icon Freddy Krueger. The film earned $115.7 million at the worldwide box office.

Pretty much what I figured. I knew there was no way they'd make a direct sequel, but I also figured with Leatherface, Friday the 13th and Halloween Returns on the way, they're gonna try to bring in Freddy somehow. I don't expect another remake of the original film and if it is, that's okay too, because they missed the mark the first time.
If Atkins was here... he'd have two chicks in one hand and a beer in the other, and I know exactly what he'd tell you. He'd say "shut the fuck up, Spanky, I'm trying to score." And it would be true. Because Atkins has faith in two things: his mustache and his cock (yet to be disproven as two separate things) and if we all live with even a quarter of that Atkinness, then we have succeeded in life...

    ENGLUND. OR. BUST.

Also, so weird that everyone is saying this would be "another" remake. I didn't think that many people knew about Mahakaal.

    Maybe it'll get canned.

Maybe it'll take years to be produced.

Maybe, if it's produced, it'll be surprisingly good.

Maybe it won't be as bad as the remake... because, let's be honest, they'd have to fail EPICALLY to make a movie worse than the one they made back in 2010.

I wouldn't mind Craven being involved in some capacity if he had an actual idea or something. I dunno about him directing, but I always wondered if he had any other ideas kicking around.

Me too. It's my understanding that many of his ideas for NOES 3 were unused.

I wonder if his current ideas would involve excessive use of the word "cunt"? And corpse-shitting?

Kinda, sorta. The basic framework of his script is sort of there in the final movie; most of his ideas that didn't make it were more detail-oriented (like Freddy living in an old ranch house, Freddy being supremely vulgar, shit like that). Now, he did suggest time travel for part 4, which obviously didn't happen.

In all fairness, if we get anything like the 2006 remake of "The Hills Have Eyes," I'll be thrilled.

For not using the appropriate .GIF, yes.

    BTW, Englund > JEH.

If I get banned for the .gif, Westin should get banned for that last line.

Well, they already tried and failed, putting a lid on the original franchise.
Why not give it another shot?

I actually kinda liked Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy, but then that's just because he was the one part of the movie that wasn't totally awful.
"Now I'd like two eggs, over hard. I know, don't tell me; it's hard on the arteries, but old habits die hard, just about as hard as I want those eggs. Bacon, super-crispy. Almost burned. Cremated. That's great. And, I'll have the grapefruit juice, just as long as those grapefruits are freshly squeezed."

Would Englund accept the role if they offered it to him? A while ago, he said he didn't want to play Freddy anymore. I think that as long as he's alive, Englund should be the man to play Freddy.

For years didn't he say he'd love to keep playing Freddy?
Maybe the remake broke his spirit, but I think if he was offered the role he'd jump all over it unless he had a physical ailement and wasn't able to do it anymore.
Although, I seriously doubt that he would be asked to do anything more then cameo, especially if the studio hopes to do several.
They probably want to start completely new.

Pretty much my sentiment. Either get Englund back or don't even bother. That last reboot sucked ass. And I'm not a big NOES fan so I don't really have any loyalty but Englund is the king when it comes to Freddy. Even the most craptastic NOES was tolerable because he is Freddy.
