My folks and sister are off to see this today, and they didn't even invite me.

Not that I really wanted to see it (I haven't seen any of the others yet) but it's the principal of the thing, you know?

Anyhoo, who here is off to see the new Harry Potter this weekend?

I'm going to see it tonight... I can't wait

BTW it did very good at the box office, about 44 Million for a Thursday release, I think a new record or something..

I'll probably end up going on Sunday... I'm never going near the cinema during opening days again after the Goblet of Fire... I didn't even know there were so many people in my town!

I have loved every Harry Potter movie so far...though I got tired of the first one, but they get better and better every time, so I can't wait to see this!

I wish I went to Hogwarts, and not that boring highschool that I went to

I just saw it and I thought it wasn't great. Everything just seemed far too rushed and a lot of important stuff was taken out, for example: Kreacher's entire purpose as a character in the book was to convince Harry by selectively wording his response that Sirius wasn't at the headquarters, cementing the already suggested idea that he had been taken to the Department of Mysteries resulting in Harry making a snap decision to go to the Department instead of trying to inform the Order first at the end of the book. All he does in this movie is moan and then disappear, never to be seen again.

Although to the movies credit the last few scenes were great, and Imelda Staunton was perfect as Professer Umbridge.

Apparently, they weren't even going to include him but JK said they'd be in big shit when it came to adapting Book 7...

That would explain why they introduced him but did nothing with his character but to be honest they could have put a few more scenes in, it makes no sense that the Order of the Phoenix is the longest book but they make it the shortest movie.

I know. Like, what is it? 733, or 766 pages? And for 2 hours and 5 minutes? WTF?

It was good. But I admit I was dissapointed. My ultimate favorite book of the Potter series, didn't live up to movies 2 and 4 for me. It was missing lots, and by the end, you almost felt as if there was something gone from your heart. It needed an extra oomf. The last half hour was wondeful! But it just...neede more. I'm positive they could have expanded on some things.

I think I liked the movie better than the book.

Saw it last night, I liked it.Peering into Snapes past was interesting. Knowing the Potters Father wasn't a total saint.

But...And I know Snapes kills Dumbledor my question is what's the reason?? Their really seems like no motive to do so... I will wait for the next flick to find out.

I liked this film a lot.
It was missing tons of stuff from the book that
I thought were important, but so were films 3 and 4.

Larry (my fiance') and I saw it Saturday night. I liked it, and personally it was my fave of all 5 so far. Although I have to agree, they changed a lot and left a lot out as well. For instance, Marietta, Cho's friend, was supposed to have ratted out Dumbledore's Army, but in the movie, it was Cho, and she was caught. Also, my favorite line wasn't in the book, but was a great addition to the script:

Sirius (to Lucius Malfoy): Get away from my Godson! *punches Lucius in the face*

LOVED it.

And what was up? Everyone got old-looking and fat. And unless you really looked, you'd never have recognized Percy Weasley.

I don't know that I absolutely loved it, but I liked it for what it was worth. At least they introduced Kreacher instead of writing him off, and if what that spoiler said is true, me wonders...

As far as an extended cut - I doubt it. With a movie like that, there's no such thing as an extended cut, especially since the movie is so long now. None of the other 4 have extended cuts, so why should they start here? I read online that filming for the 6th starts in September. Hopefully they can get it in and out so we can see it for a christmas next year release instead of waiting until Summer '09.

Too much Luna Lovegood, not enough Hermione Granger... IMO..

I think Harry should end up with Luna, Cho was the "betrayer" at least in the film and Harry stop being interested in her, after the kiss and when the inquisition found them with Cho aside, all things died up, and also don't you think Luna and Harry have more in common?.

The Order of the Phoenix headquarters house appeared just as I imagined it in the book, wasn't also a crazy old lad in the house that we didn't see in the movie? and that House elf wasn't much in the movie either.

The best of all was the Voldemort Vs. Dumbledore battle, awesome effects!

I saw it on Saturday, I really liked it, it was far from my favourite one though. The ad thig is so far every Harry Potter movie was better than the one thath came before it, but this one wasn't better than part 4, though I still really liked it

Trully dissapointed in that one! That makes it illegal, she must be 16 at the time and Harry 17, or was it a future stuff? don't tell me more let me read it (as soon as i can buy it)

While I won't spoil it, I thought (when it came to the law) in England, the age was 16 and above? Besides, it's the magic world!:p "Muggle" laws do not apply...

I just got back from seeing this. I didn't care for it much. I may have to watch it again to be sure, though. It was just very dark and not much fun. Not enough Harry, Hermione, and Ron; too much of other people.

Though I did love Umbridge. She was a lot of fun.

So, as of right now, my movie order (from favorite to least favorite):

1. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2)
2. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (4)
3. Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone (1)
4. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (3)
5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (5)

I saw it last week. I'm slowing starting to lose interest in the Harry Potter saga. I never read the books, but it seems like the storyline in the movies are getting harder and harder to follow.

*Deathly Hallows spoilers* He marries
Ginny.

I read that spoiler by accident -- it isn't spoil tagged when you quote someone's post. *smacks forehead* I've only just finished reading book one, and I don't even know who Ginny is meant to be, but I still wish I hadn't read it.

And I only quoted it to suggest maybe we shouldn't discuss spoilers for book seven in a thread about film five. :misery: Silly me.

Well, that's me done with Harry Potter threads. I think I'll just stay clear until the seventh film has come out -- or I've finished reading the books, whichever comes first.

That's why it says "Deathly Hallows spoilers" and we were talking about Harry's love interests... I didn't want to know, but I'm reading that book so no biggie for me.. LOL

There's no chance of David Tennant appearing again since his character doesn't appear again in the next books (Barty Crouch Jr.)

By far the best of the series.

A great social commentary on uber conservativism to the point of fascism, one of the best ensamble casts ever assembled, and the Harry/Voldemort encounter at the end is by far the most emotionally powerful scene of the series.

I'd rank them...

Order of the Phoenix
Goblet of Fire
Chamber of Secrets (GOF and COS are about tied though)
Prisoner of Azkaban
Sorcerer's Stone

As for who Harry ends up with, I'd have rather it been Cho.:(

Before reading you rpost I'd actually forgotten they renamed Philosopher''s Stone for the US... one of the single but stupid things ever to be done by Hollywood with no real relevant reason. It'd be like renaming a certian other film "Raiders of the Lost Box". :p

I enjoyed Phoenix, it did the best it could of a weak book but the best film, by far, is certainly Goblet of Fire.

It wasn't "Hollywood" that changed the title, it was published that way here in the US.
Apparently, the book's U.S. editor, Arthur Levine, who was also responsible for Americanizing
words, spellings, and grammar characteristic of British English, felt that Philosopher's Stone
conveyed an incorrect idea of the subject matter, and that a title change was necessary.
All the books got Americanized a little when published in the US, but the first book got hit
the hardest because at the time they were marketing the book to 9-12 yr old boys.
