I usually like most of the sequels in a series/franchise, but some are just downright terrible. :X

Some of the worst horror sequels, IMO:

The Howling 7: Mystery Woman
Seed of Chucky
The Hills Have Eyes 2 (1985)
Return of the Living Dead 4: Necropolis and ROTLD 5: Rave to the Grave

Just to name a few. I'll list some more after, because it pains me to even think about them. :p

Jason X
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation
The Hidden II
Saw III
The Hills Have Eyes Part II (1985)
Howling IV: The Original Nightmare
Howling: New Moon Rising

Probably others I don't remember at the moment.

What's funny for me, is that movies like The Howling 7 and Seed of Chucky actually make Jason X and TCM: The Next Generation look like masterpieces, lol. IMO, of course.

What's everyone beef with "Seed of Chucky"? I enjoyed it enough. I certainly liked it better than 1-3.

Howling 7 is easily the worst horror sequel ever. Game over.

Now that you mention it, I forgot to put the Puppet Master films. I personally have never liked any of them, but the original isn't quite as bad as the sequels.

Rich, really... ? "The Satanic Rites of Dracula" is worse than "A.D. '72"?

"King Kong vs. Godzilla" (the original Japanese version) isn't horror or science fiction. It is a satire. The dumbass Americans turned it into a straight movie for release here... and the monster footage in no way matches up.

Psycho III is pretty bad, but at least it's full of unintentional hilarity. I like Seed of Chucky, so I'm not sure what everyone's beef with it is.

The worst horror movie sequel I've ever seen is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation. You couldn't pay me to sit through that again. Yikes.

Rich, I noticed you mentioned Poltergeist II but not III.

I always thought II was pretty good, thought not in the same league as the original. I just think Julian Beck was creepy as the old preacher. Plus it at least had the full cast returning (except Dana, of course). Whereas Part III sucked sooooooooo bad. See all the O's in "so"? That's how much I hated it. Just curious to hear your take.

A few choices off the top of my head:

Jaws: The Revenge
Poltergeist III
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
Urban Legend 2: The Final Cut
Jason X
Alligator II: The Mutation
Candyman 2 & 3
Piranha 2: The Spawning

The worst horror movie sequel I've ever seen is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation.

Good choice! I dunno if it's the worst but it did indeed suck. Of course, I'm no fan of Parts 2 and 3 either.

Rich, really... ? "The Satanic Rites of Dracula" is worse than "A.D. '72

The Rites of Dracula was so bad that I did not even bother watching AD1972. Since I never saw it, I can not comment on it.

Rich, I noticed you mentioned Poltergeist II but not III

Basically it is the same reason as with the Dracula film. I thought P2 was just so aweful that I did not even watch P3. The funny thing is I rented the double feature dvd with both films, but the second was so bad I did not even bother with the third. So, again, since I did not see it I will not comment on it.

Gotta agree with you there. Zombi 3 and 4 are very entertaining, but they really are shitty films. 4 grew on me....it's the horrible dialogue that makes it so fun and cheesy. :D The end of 3 was cheesy, with the Zombie DJ.

Children Of The Corn 3

If I recall correctly, part 3 did have one really cool death though. Wasn't this the one where a guy falls back on a running faucet? It goes through the back of his head and the bloody water comes pouring out his mouth? That was a nice image.

For some reason there are many people out there who like Exorcist 3.

I'm one who does though I think the ending (the last 10 minutes or so) sucked. But I loved the dialog and thought it had some truly creepy scenes . . . like the one where the camera remains stationary for an extended time while the nurse walks in and out of doors. Then suddenly the killer strikes with his hands outstretched in front of him. You know the scene I mean? It made me hit the ceiling!

Amityville Dollhouse isn't Amityville III, it's Amityville VII (I think?)

I believe Dollhouse was Part 8. Part 7 was "A New Generation." It sucked too. They pretty much ALL sucked in one way or another. The only one I can sit through with multiple viewings is Part 2. I dig the first hour of that one.

"Halloween III: Season Of The Witch."

For some reason I have always enjoyed this one. I dunno why. I think it's stupid but yet I like it.

I liked it too. It was very inventive, intellegent, satirical, creepy, evil, and used the actual meaning of Halloween in it's story telling. It was a good film. People don't like it just because it has no Myers.

People don't like it just because it has no Myers.

Unfortunately, you're right. That does seem to be the main factor with peoples dislike in it. :( It's a shame, because I really think it's a great film. If it wasn't for the Halloween in the title, it'd be a cult classic right now.

Halloween III bored me. I went into it knowing it had zilch to do with the Myers saga. I gave it every opportunity... and it failed. Luckily Joe Bob Briggs was there to get me through it (yeah, I actually avoided the movie until he aired it).

40 posts in and no hate for Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2?

The original "Blair Witch" surprised me. I used to go to a tiny art house theater whenever a horror movie played there. When they ran "Blair Witch" I'd never even heard of it (this was before it got it's wide distribution) and had no idea what to expect. I didn't know anything about its concept. So it was really fun for me.

As for Part 2, I enjoyed it more in my second viewing on DVD. After learning the secret to the movie, going back and watching it again was a truly creepy experience.

Jaws 3

This is one of my guilty pleasures. I like it in the same way I like B movies such as Revenge of the Creature.

Generally is the films named or part of a franchise, even at its worst, it's still better than the ammounts of dreck you get DTV. Still, as sequels go, its' gotta be the B-franchives.

Lepachaun 4: In Space was just awful. Not so bad its good like In the Hood, but just total, vomit-inducing filth.

I'm usually frighteningly tolerant of sequels, but even I can sometimes draw the line:

Halloween III: Season of the Witch (I've tried, repeatedly, but i just can't...)
Wishmaster 3 and 4 (2 almost makes it too)
Hellraiser: Bloodline
Howling VII: New Moon Rising
Candyman 3: Day of the Dead
umm.... Witchcraft II-13
Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning
Poltergeist II and III
Exorcist II: The Heretic (I love 3, tho)
Alien vs Predator
CHUD II: Bud the CHUD (ya, i love it.... but wow..)
Puppet Master vs Demonic Toys (a harsh blow, Mr. Feldman)
and Decoys 2: The Second Seduction.

But seriously, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation takes the cake.

Well, that's all I can think of now, but I know there are others.
