Slaughterhouse is actually one of my favorite slashers of all time.
Plot: Lester and his son Buddy have lived and worked on a pig farm for their whole life. Now, the sheriff and some other men are putting him out of business. Lester won't give without a fight, and Buddy has an excellent plan of how they should get rid of the problem. The plan basically is kill everyone who comes close to the farm and let time do the rest. On a stormy night, a couple of friends decide to sneak into the old slaughterhouse.
The story isn't original....it's been told a bunch of times already, but it's such a fun movie. The atmosphere is top notch. The kills/gore are good too. It's not excessively gory, but there is just enough for gore fans.
Thoughts on this film?

Been wanting to see this for a while (among 1384 others). I remember seeing the awesome cover at a Blockbuster in Truro.
Ya know, 99% of you guys have no clue what Truro is, so there was no need to write it. :( I'm such a filler. Gah! But Buddy looks like a funny/terrific killer.

Buddy is great. He doesn't talk in the whole movie....he only snorts like a pig. :)

I love the movie... has been a fave of mine since like 1990 when I first watched it. I thought the atmosphere was great as well as the location and villains.

scab - Yeah, this one has definitely risen in ranks for me. It's definitely in my Top 5 now.....used to be Top 10.
I LOVE the atmosphere. All of the scenes in the slaughterhouse were just amazing.

This movie is a real gem. You can't yet buy it on region 2 over in the UK but i was digging around in my loft the other day and came across it on VHS. Naturally that same night i stuck it in the VCR and watched it start to finish.
I'd forgotten how good a film it was, like you say , with a really good atmosphere.
I love the way the Sheriff seemed to take himself really seriously. Ha ha. I bet he was one of these actors who remain in character the whole time on set.

When I first saw this film I was worried it might be a TCM ripoff, but though it has some similarities such as the retarded son of a old butcher killing people at a slaugtherhouse, but it's actually a good film with some fun moments and decent acting.

I wanted better teenagers, better atmosphere (although it was pretty good, especially for '87) and more meat factory tool kills.
The opening credits are morbid, yet hilarious! Loved it.

I actually think Slaughterhouse has some of the best atmosphere in any horror film, IMO. A few more kills would've been nice...but I actually love it the way it is. :)

I didn't find its atmosphere that astonishing. But it's good for a Friday night, and I'll definately be seeking it out.

I love it because it's slasher at it's finest. I also have thins thing for slasher movies shot on location in the south during the summer.
I'd love to see someone do up a 1:1 scale Buddy Bacon latex mask. Look at the one of Madman Marz, I am sure an equally great one could be done with Buddy.

awesome.
I think there must of been a Buddy mask a long time ago. I'm sure someone had to make one. All the independent mask makers out there and not one buddy mask.
Yeah, that Madman Marz mask was amazing.
Damn right.

There's something very masculine about the face of the sheriffs daughter, (i can't think of her name)......I guess Skip doesn't seem to mind though. ha ha

Here real name is Sherry Bendorf/Leigh... she went by Liz Borden in Slaughterhouse, although I don't know if her entire name was ever said.
She's a very successful stuntwoman now, still looks like a tranny though.

It's not related, it's a DTV shot on video about a clown house at a circus, a sequel in name.

I've never seen it on eBay, if it ever surfaced I'm pretty sure it'd go for a lot. Hell, Ms. 45 sealed went for 200+ and 555 VHS 103 the other day...

Damn, that's pretty steep. I really want to own some of those on VHS, but that's a bit too much for me. The most i've spent on a VHS tape recently was $5.99 - I got Mountaintop Motel Massacre at this store in LA.

In haven't spent much on VHS tapes. This could be because I haven't bought much on VHS. :D I always get deals:
Venus Video #1: (1 tapes for $5, 3 for $10, and 6 for $15)
-I took the most obvious one. So $2.50 each. Sadly, no rarities. "Poltergeist II", Goodtimes' "Creature from the Black Lagoon", "Psycho III" and "Halloween III". (All clamshell.)
-But I got Ghoulies II, and 'stuff'.
Venus Video #2: (10 for $10)
-Obvious to figure out: $1 each.
-I got "Popcorn", "The Unholy", "The Crying Game", "Evil Within", and others.
Flea Market: (3 for $5)
-This one was fun. Searching, believe it or not, is just as fun as finding. Because you KNOW you'll find something.
-I got "Silent Madness", "Hatchet for a Honeymoon" (Charter, not MEDIA), and "Too Scared To Scream".
Specialty Store: (Gah! Expensive!)
-Between $6.99 and $7.99 for "Hell Night", Media VHS. But it had the silver cover on the tape. Shiny!
-$6.99 for Media "A Nightmare On Elm Street 5" VHS. Sadly, it was cut!!! Gah! Why are there cut and uncut in the same boxes!?
-"I Spit On Your Grave" Anchor Bay, '99 release. Didn't cost as much as the previous. It was widescreen, and very clean! How nice.
So yeah. sLaughterhouse II will probably suck, but if it's a rare as everyone says, then I'm gonna track it down faster than Lindsay on coke! Man, that's fast!

There are just dome VHS movies that are worth a fortune, very low prints and they aren't on DVD. Same with some OOP DVDs.
I'm still biddin g on Screams Of A Winter Night, that movie goes anywhere from 65-135. 555 went for 103 the other day on eBay, but you can get it on Amazon for 50.
GEnerally, if I really want a movie I will pay a lot for it, unless it gets out of hand in a bidding war.

Actually it's not even that: it's nonexistant. It's pretty funny that it stayed on IMDb so long and there were people who swore that they had seen it around... when it was exactly NOWHERE to be found, and only ONE review on the internet (well, except the fake IMDb reviews). Of course, the same things were said about Grizzly II (which has still yet to be released, hopefully that will change someday) but at least after many years the workprint turned up and there was some physical evidence that it actually was filmed.
It's a bit of a shame though, I was kinda hoping that I would be wrong and that there would be some copy out there...
And about Slaughterhouse, well, it's just fucking awesome is what it is. It's one of my all time favorites as well.
In fact, I've even got a theatrical poster of it hanging in my room. It had never been used (was rolled) and when I got it, it was in mint condition. Unfortunately, my dumb ass didn't take care of it, and I put double sided tape on it to put it on my wall. For those of you out there reading, DO NOT DO THIS WITH ANY POSTER, especially not a brand new rare poster from 1987. Still, looks good on my wall I say. It's right there next to my SLAUGHTER HIGH video release poster. :)
And check out this video featuring the music of Powermad, an awesome band as well. (80's thrash!!!!)

Yeah, Slaughterhouse II doesn't exist in my opinion. The people that claimed to have seen it are very vague and unable to give any specifics what so ever.

Nah, they were obviously just fucking around online or something. It would be interesting to try to go and make it though, it sounded like a pretty cool movie (if I remember right, the review talked about people being thrown in acid, the villain screaming at a level causing a guy's head to explode)
It's a nice coincidence that this thread has been bumped up, I just finally bought Slaughterhouse on DVD a couple weeks ago.
This movie is awesome, it's one of the several slashers where my first viewing of it has stuck with me as a fond childhood memory.
I didn't realize until the most recent viewing of Slaughterhouse that an opening scene victim was the same guy who played T.J. in Slumber Party Massacre 2 (another fond childhood memory movie).
I haven"t seen this since it's original VHS release, but was thinking a bout it the other day for some reason and couldn't remember the name, i just remembered Buddy was a really big guy and never spoke.

Yeah, he is (although I have to say, Slaughterhouse is a MUCH better film than SPM 2) and also the girl who gets killed in that scene played the wife in KILLING SPREE (another awesome film that I think is way better than SPM 2)
I do concur that this film is quite fucking incredible, and the DVD is really cool too (although, after years of owning it, I've yet to check out the DVD ROM features, which I've heard are actually the highlights)
I do remember the commentary being quite as hell though, I could never really keep track of it.
I love SPM2, so seeing T.J. in the beginning of Slaughterhouse has me wanting to watch the two back-to-back next time.
The commentary is hard to hear, they split the audio to the right and left - the commentary is low on one side, the film's sound is loud on the other. I need to try to listen to it in the room where I have a surround sound set-up.

I remember being pretty disappointed with SPM2, mainly for the 'hey he's real' 'no he's not' 'he's real this time' 'uh... no he's not.... HOLY CRAP HE'S REAL NOW" thing it had going.
But Slaughterhouse I do love. Pure cinematic excellence. I low you can see Joe Barton in the Buddy getup going into theaters screening the movie to scare people... and there's only 10 people there. :D

I thought the bloke who played the sheriff did a great acting job in this one. I mean, to be fair, he must've thought to himself at the time, "sheesh, this films gonna be a real turd...a real bargain bucket jobbie"....but for me he was top draw as credible performances go...much like the fella who played Dr Cruz in Friday Part 7.
I'm a big fan of Slaugherhouse...i own it on VHS , but it isn't available on Region 2 at this time...hopefully soon
