Yes, I did create the Official Metal Thread, but there are some metal bands that merit their own seperate thread.....Black Sabbath being one of them. :)
I like both Ozzy and Dio era's, but I favor the Ozzy material. The album with Ian Gillan, Born Again, was decent IMO. It was heavy, but I couldn't really get into it as much. The only Tony Martin album I like is Headless Cross.
Favorite albums: Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Master of Reality, Heaven and Hell
Favorite songs:
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Children of the Grave
Snowblind
Sabbra Cadabra
Die Young
Computer God
Electric Funeral
Changes
Black Sabbath
Hole in the Sky
Heaven and Hell
Sign of the Southern Cross
I have many more favorites. Those are just the ones off the top of my head.
I actually had the oppurtunity to see them at their Reunion show at Ozzfest. I even bought the T-shirt for it. :) That was about 10 years ago, so my memory is very faint of it, but at least I can say I was there. :D

oh man, I thought this was already made:o
well okay, I've seen thm live twice with Dio on vocals
Dio is my favourite vocalist of theirs, actually one of my favourite vocalists in general, I'd have to say my favourite album is The Mob Rules, though my favourite song by them is Children of the Sea

Well, I did create one in the "Tribute" forum. :)
Also, I have to go on record and say that the cover of Born Again is the ugliest album cover in existence. It's hideous. :X
Children of the Sea is a great song. Pantera actually used to cover that song during some of their earlier shows. :)
Fonz - You've never seen them with Ozzy? :(

nor will I ever
that Born Again album is also a hideous album, lol

Well, I thought the album was decent. The music was good.....it was pretty heavy, and had the slower doom parts too. I'm not TOO fond of Ian Gillan's vocals, to be honest.
For me, the covers for Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Dehumanizer are the best, IMO. Headless Cross has a good cover too, but it's VERY misleading. If you only looked at the cover, you'd expect that they went back to the heavier, doom metal of the Ozzy era.....but it's more along the lines of 80's rock.

I love Dio-era Sabs. :D
Heaven & Hell is an album I crank on the headphones often when I'm on the exercise bike or in the garage tinkering around.
Not a big fan of Ozzy Sabs, but some of that stuff is decent enough to listen to.

my favourite Ozzy-Sabbathed song is Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, only because that's the only song that Ozzy shows any tallent in during his whole career as a singer, as I've always thought

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is about my favorite Black Sabbath song of all time. :) I do disagree with your other comment, though. That's your opinion, so it's cool.
What about his voice in the song Changes, from Vol. 4?
The verse guitar riff in Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is one of the greatest riffs ever, IMO. It's very basic, but it's absolutely crushing. It's brilliant. :)
CanadianFonzie
08-28-2007, 02:48 PM
well I've personally just never found Ozzy to have tallents in the vocal area, but there are other singers that I like with that problem, but that's why I don't like his Sabbath stuff, while his solo stuff was less dark and it suited him better, IMO

Love Sabbath. Just Ozzy era though. I mean, the riffs crushed. I was listening to Sabbath Bloody Sabbath yesterday. Great album. I think A National Acrobat might be one of my favorite songs, damn that riff jams out. And I agree that the album cover is great, love the inside painting as well, with what I assume are angels at the bed.

A National Acrobat is great. I love all the songs off of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. That's definitely one of my all-time favorite albums.
I have been listening to so much damn Sabbath lately and I can't stop listening to Ozzy Speak of the Devil either.
MaDMaNMaRz

Yeah, Ozzy's Speak of the Devil is a great live album. I'd have to say that and Iron Maiden's Live After Death are some of the greatest live albums, IMO.
The one Sabbath album i've never heard is Tyr.....which is from the Tony Martin era. I really only like the Ozzy and Dio eras, but i'm curious to hear that album. I guess all of the songs are about Norse Mythology, so it could be interesting.
They recently released a live DVD and CD that they recorded at Radio City Music Hall. I might pick up the Deluxe Edition of the DVD, if I can find it.

I had the pleasure of seeing the original lineup at Ozzfest 2004. It was probably the best show I've seen, just from the magic in the air. I remember the music being so heavy, I could feel the vibrations in my chest even though I was back on the lawn. I remember NIB starting and just getting chills and even a lump in my throat. Being a Metal fan for twenty years, that was truly a perfect moment for me.
I personally love the Martin era best. Headless Cross and Cross Purposes are both great. I also love Forbidden even if no one else does. Dehumanizer (with Dio) is my favorite album of theirs though.

thank God there are more of us:shy:, lol

I couldn't get into the Martin era Sabbath.
Ozzy era will always be my favorite. I also enjoy the Dio era too.

I saw Sabbath at Ozzfest 04 too. Damn that was a good show.

the guys in Sabbath (other than Ozzy of course) were getting so tired of playing the same songs every Ozzfest, that's a key reason they reunited with Dio...so I guess I have Ozzfest for reuniting my favourite line-up and giving me one of the best concerts I've seen in a long time last March

Did any of you guys see the Black Sabbath Reunion at Ozzfest 1997? I barely remember it, because I was pretty young....I was only 11! I remember it being a great time. I have a Black Sabbath reunion T-shirt that I got. :) I would wear it, but back then concert shirts were all huge, and I wear mine smaller. I usually get medium these days.

I saw Ozzfest 1997 in Wisconsin. :) It sucks though, because I hardly remember it. I was 10 years old when I saw that show.

I'm listening to Sabs more and more as the winter cold is settling in. I guess it helps the cabin fever set in. :duh:

In the recent issue of Guitar World, they had a section where the guys in Bullet for my Valentine (:X) interviewed Tony Iommi. He said that Into the Void is one of his favorite Sabbath songs. That has always been one of my favorites too. I thought that was interesting.

Sabbath are great and the best line up was definitely the original with Ozzy, there first 6 albums are great

I'm actually starting to enjoy Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die more now. I used to hate them, but now i've grown to enjoy them.
I definitely agree that the Ozzy era Sabbath is the greatest. That's the definitive lineup. :)

I haven't actually heard TE or NSD, I have only heard the title track from NSD, I thought it was a decent song, will prob. listen to these two in the future though
MaDMaNMaRz
02-10-2008, 02:19 AM
They definitely are albums that grow on you. I'm sure you'd like them.
What's your favorite Sabbath album? Mine is Master of Reality...but lately, Vol. 4 has been rising in ranks for me. It's hard to only pick one favorite Sabbath album, lol.

I'm seeing Sabbath live on August 13th with Judas Priest, as well as Motorhead and Testament, I can't wait to see the chemistry between Sabbath and Judas Priest both taking the stage, the last Sabbath show was one of my favourite concerts that I had seen in years, so hopefully, even though they are not headlining, they'll but on an almost just as good show
as for Judas Priest, I really can't wait for them cause I've only seen them once live previously (as apposed to the 4 times I've seen Sabbath)

They released a Dio box set called The Rules of Hell. It contains the 3 albums they did with Dio, and the Live Evil album.
I'll definitely get this. They're supposed to be remastered, and it's supposed to have extensive liner notes plus interviews. I also never got the Live Evil disc, so that'll be new to me.

07-22-2008, 04:12 AM
well of course, that is what they are touring for, there are also apparently 3 bonus tracks on it...but it's not worth the money at all for me because I have Heaven adnd Hell, The Mob Rules and Live Evil on record as well as Heaven and Hell, The Mob Rules and Dehumanizer on compact
MaDMaNMaRz
07-22-2008, 04:27 AM
I didn't know it has bonus tracks! It'd be worth it for me, because I still only have Dehumanizer on cassette, lol. I could never really find it in stores, so now I can finally have it on CD.
CanadianFonzie
07-22-2008, 03:07 PM
you couldn't find it? I'd always see it in stores and I'd always hear it whispering "buy me, buy me" until finally about a year and a half ago I bought that sucker

I could never find Dehumanizer in stores. :( Although the Crows Nest that used to be open near me more than likely would've had it. I just never checked for it there for some reason, lol.

my God what a show they put on tonight, both them and Priest just made my night completely, hell they made my summer, forget the Motley Crue concert in a few weeks, it can't possibly top tonight. I can't judge who was better, Sabbath or Priest, because they both put on shows based on their own style, both with surprising setlists

I've been listening to Tony Martin era Sabbath quite a bit lately....especially Headless Cross. It's actually one of my all-time favorite Sabbath albums. I'd put it in my top 3, along with Mob Rules and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.
That whole era is so vastly underrated. Tony has such a great voice, and has a real high range. Nightwing for me is the highlight of HC, and one of my favorite Sabbath songs ever. Out of the 5 albums, i'd say Forbidden is my least favorite, but it still has great songs.

This might surprise alot of people, but Headless Cross is actually my all-time favorite Sabbath album.....hell, one of my favorites in general! Tony Martin has a stunning voice. The Eternal Idol and Tyr are also amazing. I do like Cross Purposes and Forbidden, but they aren't quite on par with the first 3....although Cross of Thorns and Kiss of Death are fantastic songs!
For me, When Death Calls might be the best Sabbath song ever. The way it progresses is brilliant. And the emotion Tony shows in his voice is beyond impressive.
