Although to be honest, Bill and Ted is the kind of light fluff I wouldn't mind seeing more of, so long as the remake doesn't take itself too seriously. The chances of a sequel are nil, so I'm all for a remake.

Too bad George Carlin won't be involved.

Here's an article about it, from FilmJunk.com (http://www.filmjunk.com/2007/07/11/bill-and-ted-getting-a-sequelremake/):

Bill and Ted Getting a Sequel/Remake?

Although I haven’t seen either movie in years, I’d be lying if I said Bill S. Preston, Esq. and Ted Theodore Logan weren’t major heroes of mine growing up. These movies were the funniest thing in the world when I was 11 or 12, and they’ll always hold a special place in my heart. Now it looks like the characters are being dragged back out by MGM and 360 Pictures for a new Bill and Ted sequel that’s actually more of a remake.

Unfortunately, neither Alex Winter nor Keanu Reeves will be reprising their roles, which leads me to ask… what’s the point??? I certainly wouldn’t expect Keanu to be interested in another Bill and Ted movie, but reports indicate that he was surprisingly eager to do it (as was Winter).

Supposedly Reeves’ agent was the one who put the kibosh on his involvement, fearing it would ruin his career. Maybe that’s just an easy excuse for Keanu, but I do respect the guy for showing interest in the project.

“You know, I’ve always thought we should do it when we’re 40, because those two at 40 would be funny… He [Winter] and I have spoken about it. But you know what, we don’t own the material, so it’s not up to us. We just play the parts, man. But it would be funny to see them, fat and 40, singing in an airport hotel lounge.”

So anyway, now we’re left with what will probably be yet another embarrassing direct to video sequel that no one wants to see. The movie is written by Gabe Grifoni and Suzanne Francis (Wieners) and produced by Frank Mancuso Jr.

No word on who would play Bill and Ted in this version.

Uncle Hoody

I'd totally offer to play a fat and out of shape Ted. So what if I look nothing like Reeves! I just want an excuse to walk around talking like them again.

I don't see how a new one set when Bill & Ted are 40 would work as shouldn't their music of changed the world into a peaceful loving place by now.

Just Jeans
07-13-2007, 04:14 PM
Not if someone came back in time and sabotaged their efforts. It's a bit like Judgment Day in Terminator 3 -- they didn't prevent it, they only pushed it back. Theoretically, the same thing could happen to Bill and Ted's career. Their music might not change the world as early as it previously might have had due to time travelers interfering (a bit like Great Britain never experiencing Harriet Jones' Golden Age as Prime Minister, thanks to you-know-who).

The Dark Vampire
07-13-2007, 04:18 PM
Well yeah that could be a good plot

BTW to you think Bill and Ted's time traveling phone box is a nod to the good doctor

There's rumor that that's the case, yep. It's never been confirmed, but I'd like to believe it is.

If I were Keanu Reeves, I'd tell my agent to sit and spin, because I'd do Bill & Ted 3 in a heartbeat. I'm sure Alex Winter would do it, simply because I don't think he's done anything since Freaked.

I don't need an excuse, dude. I just go with it.

Dude, this sucks. This is the most literally worst idea to come out of Hollywood all year aside from the idiotic Bratz movie. They simply CANNOT do this. Bogus Journey was the perfect way to end the series. If they're going for finishing up 2-sequel franchises, why not make Predator 3? That'd be a good waste of ten grand. But Bill and Ted? They've already established world peace by now. Unless they did it in a way where something went wrong and rap and shit got too popular and bumped hair metal off, and now the old Stallyns have to go back in time and help the new young ones. But then again, it would still be DTV like Cinderella 3, Road House 2, Open Water 2, and every other waste of manpower that curses Blockbuster shelves nowadays.

thanks Jeans, so who's gonna star in this remake?...not sure I really approve of this, because the way comedy movies have become, they might turn this into a stupid(er) movie, but the bad kind of stupid, not the good kind thath the original Bill and Ted movies had

I didn't even know who Keano was before Speed. Then I made the connection. I think a remake is in order for this sadly defeated series. I would watch it, for nothing else other than to feel my brain bake worse than what weed could ever do. Now the ultimate question is... Who would play Bill and Ted?

And seriously... it can't be worse than Dumb and Dumberer.

Well, you see the whole point of DTV is to expect crappy releases e.g. Butterfly Effect 2. So, we know not to get our hopes up. If it blows, it blows, but if it turns out to be a gem... well, I guess i'll have to say good job!

I love that Frank Mancuso Jr is producing this. After talking about how sick he got of doing the Friday movies and that he wanted to move on to bigger and better things, he's now producing a DTV sequel to a series (can 2 films be called a "series?") that's been dead for 16 years.

They need to just do a sequel with them in their 40s. Get Keanu and Alex Winter back. I'm not sure how good of a plot they can do with it but it'd be better then a DTV remake.

The Dream Master
07-15-2007, 08:35 AM
Yeah, and it'd make a ton more money, too. If Reeves wants to do it, then I don't see why MGM isn't jumping all over that prospect. Given the recent resurgence of '80s properties, you'd think they'd want to strike while the iron is hot.

Without them, I can't see this film being any good.
A remake would never capture the magic of the first film, and who would
want a sequel without the real Bill and Ted.

I don't see how a new one set when Bill & Ted are 40 would work as shouldn't their music of changed the world into a peaceful loving place by now.

Remember during the end credits of the second film, when they show the various newspaper and magazine headlines. We learn that at one point, there was a rumor that the band broke up and the stock market plunges. Then after a couple more headlines, we see that they've reunited and everyone is happy once again. That would've been the perfect way to start a story. With the time traveling centering around how their friendship affects each other, more than the world.

You know... Keanu apparently never watched his own movies. I mean, it's possible he's right, but somehow I doubt they'd become a famous rock after they turned 40. And if they don't because a famous rock band, the world implodes. BOGUS.

Time lines are in flux with people always dipping back in time to try and stop them (think Terminator 3 and the pushing back of Judgment Day). I think it'd be neat to see 40-somethings change the world with classic rock. :shy:

NO REMAKE!

I am sick to death of stupid remakes! Doesn't Hollywood have any ORIGINAL ideas left? They're remaking Debbie Does Dallas, for God's sake!

The ONLY way I'd ever see this is if it were an actual sequel with Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves. I wouldn't mind seeing Keanu Reeves going "Woah" one more time. But for a remake? They'd have to remake both films in order for this to work. I do like the idea of rap taking over the world and Bill & Ted having to save the world from the evil rappers...ROFL

Bill & Ted remake? Yep, and we got the dirt! (http://www.moviehole.net/news/20080402_bill_ted_remake_yep_and_we_got.html)

After many years of rumours, scuttlebutt, and spruiking on Alex Winter’s behalf (I believe there was also a producer trying to get a third film up at one stage – might be the same chap behind this one, not sure), we can finally confirm that a new “Bill & Ted” movie is indeed in the works.

Unfortunately, it isn’t the one you’ve been hoping for – the one where Winter and Keanu Reeves return to play 40-something version’s of the iconic dags. Instead, the new “Bill & Ted” is somewhat of a series restart.

Errr.

Bill & Ted are two Year 10 students, on the verge of failing their school year (the principal, Principal Baumheiser, is their main adversary), when they discover a way to travel through time – yes, it’s by way of a phone again, albeit a funkier one than that in the original – to meet some of the characters they’re supposed to have learnt about at school. They met Gandhi, Calamity Jane… the list goes on. The next week, Bill & Ted have to present a “full presentation of every class” they’re failing, which is all of them.

Oh, and as for Wyld Stallions? They’re retired. Bill & Ted’s group, in this film, is ‘Atomic Gorillas’. Ha.

The pages of the script that I’ve seen indicate that the film has been updated for the audience of today – there’s a few less “Whoa’s” than there was in the original, and the screenwriter has gone out of his way to throw in a bunch of references to all the cool and hip stuff the youngin’s are into today (for instance, Bill & Ted are worried that they’re going to miss “The Dark Knight”). It definitely reads like the old “Bill & Ted”…. But not entirely. Lets see who they cast.

Assume this will go straight to DVD – along with all the other sequels MGM’s developing right now.

Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves is adamant he won't be starring in a proposed new sequel to his hit movie Speed.

It was recently reported that movie executives at 20th Century Fox are keen for Reeves to reprise his role as Jack Traven for a second follow-up to the 1994 disaster movie.

The actor pulled out of the flop 1997 sequel, which starred Sandra Bullock and Jason Patric, and has now announced that if film bosses insist on making a third picture, he definitely won't be involved.

He tells IGN Movies, "I honestly don't know anything about it. I don't know if they are going to make another one, and if they are it won't be with me... honestly!"

But Reeves admits there is one film sequel project that he would be interested in - a third movie in his hit Bill + Ted franchise.

He adds, "Well you know, never say never... Maybe we could do it with them both grown up - they haven't saved the world and they're just living their lives as middle-aged men. That sound's quite funny."

As for the Speed 3 information, apparently Dennis Hopper was also contacted to reprise his role from the first film despite his head cutting off. I wondered if it was some sort of prequel, but it's for the same script that they (Fox) wanted Reeves for.:duh:

Why would MGM go ahead with a DTV remake of Bill and Ted when Reeves has said on many occasions, and even recently, that he would be up for a Bill and Ted 3?????

This is beyond idiotic.

Chex
12-07-2008, 07:56 PM
Reeves was (or still is) the highest paid actor due to the Matrix sequels so maybe MGM thinks the check that would go to him is too much and, all things considering, it is Bill and Ted 3 which I don't recall the first two being monstrous hits. Of course, I could be wrong, but if they weren't giant hits back in the day and with several years since those decent box office draw (or I guess worse), it's just not worth it.

Looking at it from a business stand point, it may be more profitable to higher no names, sequalize or remake it and toss it out there so the folks who did remember the previous entries will snatch it up so the studio makes a quick, tidy profit.

There's the possibility that Reeves really isn't expecting much in pay (I would like to hope) and if that's true, then there isn't much of a reason to skip him and a proper sequel.

Well, I mean if they can get back Winter. It would be rather funny if Reeves wants to do the film despite all his high end success while Winter isn't interested.

And really what the fuck else is Alex Winter doing with his life? I think he's been directing some DTV made-for-kids movies but I think it would be highly unlikely if he didn't return if they offered it to him. He's already pigeonholed as that character so he might as well do it (my mini-rant)
