Nice pics, man!

Continuing with the ever popular trend of guys keeping their guts as big as possible and wanting their women as thin as ever, New Line head honcho, Bob Shaye made a big statement with actress Rosamund Pike when he opened up his coat at the Fracture premiere:

Sorry for asking but when did the legend of Bob's drinking vodka start?

Shaye's drinking really started on a boring story. Literally, all that started it was on the NOES Encyclopedia DVD in the Primetime Documentary where Renny Harlin states (about the NOES 4 premiere, driving around in a limo), "we were drinking vodka [pause]... which we both enjoy."

That's it!

Today, a good friend of the Rebellion has passed on. Keith Knight, who played Hollis in My Bloody Valentine died last Wednesday. We at the Rebellion extend our deepest thoughts and prayers to Keith and his friends and family. WesReviews paid tribute to him a few years back with this pic, and dammit, it chokes me up to see it.

I assume this picture was taken after Shaye threw a bottle of vodka at someone when hearing about Kreddy. Notice how the lady in the back is looking towards the floor. Shaye must have connected.

Something I've noticed several times but have always forgot to mention; (I think) They used the same stock footage of the TV-aerobics chicks from Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter in The Heavenly Kid. I think it was also in Grumpier Old Men, if I'm not mistaken.

Slightly off topic, but oh well.

If the WB wants to keep any execs, Bob should only let them stay if he gets the rights to Nightmare (but only if he cuts that remake shit out--I'll give him another chance, damnit). Of course, it's probably not going to happen, but a man can dream, right?

I don't know who made it, but I sure would watch that.

Also, I just happened to be on Bob's Wikipedia page, and he can apparently speak Swedish.

Does Renny speak Finnish or Swedish? Because if it's the latter, we all know the first sentence Bob learned in Swedish: "Renny, open the bottle."

So... been a while since there have been any updates on the Shaye front.

Not heard a lot about Unique Features lately either. I suppose it takes some time to get a new production company off the ground. The company has anywhere from 9 to 11 films in development, depending on which article you read. Shame that UF doesn't even have a website.

I couldn't help but feel so sorry for the guy when he was talking about his company in Never Sleep Again. You could tell he was holding back tears. I've been on and off the guy but when you take notice of how much he really tried to create something fans would at least find fun, you can't help but love the guy. And the fact he never took anyone's shit is great. It's a shame he lost his company the way he did.

Bad news on the Shaye front...

WB, New Line toppers part ways

First-look deal at Unique Features expires without renewal

By Dave McNary

Warner Bros. has parted ways with former New Line toppers Robert Shaye and Michael Lynne, who have seen their first-look deal at Unique Features run out with being renewed.

The studio, Shaye and Lynne had no comment Wednesday about the expiration of the deal. Unique Features remains in a business-as-usual mode, developing several features including "Heavy Rain" at Warners.

Shaye founded New Line in 1967 in his New York apartment and built it into a minimajor through focusing on horror, comedies, art films and the occasional tentpole. The company -- home to "The Lord of the Rings," "Austin Powers," "Friday the 13th," "A Nightmare on Elm Street," "Rush Hour," "The Mask" and "Boogie Nights" -- was folded into Warner Bros. as a small genre arm and Shaye and Lynne were ousted in early 2008 as part of Time Warner's decision to cut costs by slashing over 500 slots.

Shaye and Lynne signed their first-look deal with Warners a few months later.

Key projects developed at New York-based Unique are an adaptation of Paul McCartney's "High in the Clouds," an animated adaptation of a children's book written by McCartney, Geoff Dunbar and Philip Ardagha about a squirrel's quest to find an animal sanctuary; it's partnered with Constantin on "The Mortal Instruments," an adaptation of the Cassandra Clare fantasy book trilogy; and "Heavy Rain" with David Milch on board to adapt the noir-style videogame.

Warner Bros. currently has 32 term deals with producers, far more than any other studio.

The New York Post first reported on the first-look deal ending for Unique.

I suppose Unique Features can and will find a home somewhere else, but this will definitely postpone any projects they might've had in the developmental pipeline.

I wonder what this guy is doing now. New Line Cinema was a company formed by Shaye and Risher from the ground up, pretty much with A Nightmare on Elm Street. Then corporate America comes and steals their company away from them. It really must be heart breaking. At least Shaye has a legacy of movies from A Nightmare on Elm Street to Lord of the Rings to be proud of. The corporate fuckfaces can take his company away from him, but not his accomplishments.
