Baylor pulled off an upset last night, beating TCU 50-48.

The TCU horned frogs had the longest winning streak in Division I, er FBS at 25.

A couple of top 25 matchups this weekend:
#3 Oregon playing #4 LSU.
#5 Boise State, hoping to become the next undefeated team shut out of the "national championship" game, plays #19 Georgia.

Wish I can watch East Carolina vs. South Carolina, but I'm sure it won't be available in my viewing area. I'd like to see a team that's not in the SEC win the championship this season.

Go Bucks! The road to redemption starts today vs. measly Akron, but I can't wait. I want to see how Braxton Miller plays (he will apparently be splitting start time with Joe "can't complete a pass for the life of me" Bauserman).

Added:

Wow, um...Joe Bauserman impressed me today. Regardless of who you're playing, 75% completion, 3 TDs and a rushing TD is always an awesome thing.

Where's DM? Clemson is losing to Troy.

I just can't get into College ball for some reason. I love College Basketball, but Football just doesn't do it for me. I don't know why; I really should try but there's just so much to follow as far as players and conferences and what not.

I'll watch it, but I'm not really into it like the NFL. I root for UNC & ECU, and watch their games but that's about it. I guess if I went to a college that had athletics, my attitude would be different. I'm actually more into college basketball than football.

But in all seriousness, I was wondering what was up, it was pretty ugly in the stadium around halftime. The guy in front of me actually left. I pondered out loud that we could probably still score 30 in the second half and make it looks less ugly. That's exactly what happened, and I suspect most of the season will be full of bumps like that.

But mark my words, boys, if Clemson's entire WR corps pans out, it'll be one of the most spectacular displays of pure talent and speed you will have ever seen on one team. I won't predict a national championship, but if we don't win an ACC championship within 3 years, we're cursed.

Impressive win by Boise State. Unfortunately, they don't have much of a schedule remaining. TCU losing to Baylor knocked them down to #25. Nevada is the only other team worth much and they're playing Oregon next. They have a good shot at going undefeated, but very unlikely they'll have a shot at the national championship.

It seems like college football is moving toward super conferences. The Pac-10 became the Pac-12 and may end up being the Pac-16 in a couple of years. The Big 12 is slowly dissolving.

It's interesting how the Big 10 now has 12 teams... and the Big 12 has 10.

I think we'll have a handful of super 16 team conferences within a decade, and it'll be shitty.

College football is a strange animal. Division I, or FBS doesn't have a national champion as the bowl system will not allow playoffs. Your team can go undefeated but simply cannot make the 'championship' game (happens quite a bit, just ask BSU or TCU fans). There are a lot of blowouts; the 'any given sunday' (or saturday) theory does not apply here. You know Florida is going to blow out a team like North Texas or Boise State crushes New Mexico State. With over 100 teams, you simply can't follow it the way you can the NFL.

It's still fun to watch, especially when a team is overrated (Notre Dame comes to mind... every season) and gets beat by a team of nobodies, or whenever there's a 'top 5' matchup. Oklahoma (#1) is playing at Florida State (#5).; should be interesting. You can also root for your school's team; you can have a strong connection with them (for example, there isn't a university of Dallas Cowboys, etc.)

Man, it was fucking awesome. I didn't want to leave. That's got to be one of the top wins I've ever seen in person. Beating #3 FSU in 2003 is the biggest, but this is probably right after that. I hope it means something at the end of the season. When we almost beat Auburn last year, I really thought we would be pretty good, and we sucked. I can easily see us looking back at the end of this year and doing the same thing, especially if Auburn ends up being kind of shitty (which is possible, they lost a lot). But we'll see. This weekend's game against FSU is actually bigger because I don't think we can lose to them and win the Atlantic Division.

I can see it now...

Undefeated Clemson vs. undefeated Boise State playing to see who gets ranked #2 at the end of the year. If Clemson doesn't go undefeated (upsets happen, Georgia Tech is pretty damn good), I hope they at least beat South Carolina at the end of the season.

I'm not fond of the SEC, given their dominance in the National Championship game.
Have to respect them, though. 5 straight titles. :|

If we fucking lose to South Carolina and it's our only loss, I will probably hurt small children.

That said, I would not be surprised to lose at GT in 2 weeks; Bobby Dodd is a house of horrors and GT might be playing for their conference lives. But, hey, if we're 11-1, whatever, I thought we'd only win 8 at the most this year.

But I don't even want to know what I'll do if we go undefeated and don't get a shot at the title. I'll be beyond angry.

HOOOLYYYYYYYY SHIIIIIIIIIIT

We're a top five team, and I'm having flashbacks to the year 2000, which is the first time I could remember a soul-crushing experience that would come to define the next decade. We were 8-0, ranked fourth in the country against a unranked Georgia Tech team on like a 3 game losing streak. Playing at home, we took the lead with something like 90 seconds left, but GT had this crazy drive that ended in this guy (Kerry Watkins, fuck him) making this unbelievable one handed catch.

Now, we're 8-0, and you can guess who we play next week. In Atlanta. Where we haven't won in like 49 years (okay, only 8, but it feels like longer). This will be a long week.

Man, I watched a lot of that Clemson game. It was real close, like 24-17 when I went to do some work on a project. Clemson scored 4 TDs while I was away, doing horrible things to the tarheels in my absence.

The only thing I would be irritated with at the end of the season is if Boise State & Clemson manage to go undefeated (still some games left, not counting on it just yet), and some 1 loss team such as Oregon or an SEC team gets to play in the National Championship. If Clemson wins at Georgia Tech, they'll leap frog BSU, then go ahead of whoever loses the LSU/Alabama matchup (1 vs. 2 in the regular season). They can get to #4 in the BCS in two weeks and have a legitimate shot at the 'National Championship' game. (Knock on wood). :)

My alma mater won it's first game against an over matched NAIA team 42-0. After that game I said, "this has got to be the sloppiest 42-0 victory, ever."

We are sitting at 1-7 on the season and are getting blown out by equal competition. Alumni apologists are pointing at youth on the offensive line, but shut the hell up. Our coach is a published author on running offenses with like 3 books to his name. Football is football. I can take losing the money games to FBS schools.

I can't take losing homecoming by 40 points.

I honestly don't think it's going to be a big deal in the end because I know Clemson. They'll lose a game, if only because they're young. I'm just hoping it's not against South Carolina at this point. Or the ACC championship game. But, then again, I don't really want to lose to the nerdy bees in Atlanta this weekend because I hate them. So, really, I don't think there's a loss that won't piss me off.

Maybe if we make it to a BCS bowl (or, god forbid, the national championship game) and lost, it wouldn't be so bad considering I would have never dreamed we'd be even close to that this year.

But, hey, in like 2 months I'll probably be quoting this post and remembering the good old times when we were undefeated before ultimately being disappointed.

It's a tough call. If your team gets close to winning the championship and they don't make it in the end, it is the worst feeling. I felt it several times when Germany plays in the world cup, 3 NFC championship games, and the Celtics lost the finals to the Lakers two seasons ago.

My Vikings are going to have their worst season I've ever witnessed in 24 years, and I just shrug. Oh well. When Favre threw an interception against the Saints a couple years ago, I was devastated.

In the back of your mind, you know they have to lose eventually and the feeling is going to be like getting kicked in the nuts. So, here's a pre-emptive 'there there, there there' for you.

Unless Clemson can pull of the unthinkable and win it all. I'll be celebrating, too. :)

A lot of controversy going on right now at my Alma Meter- PSU. Will be the end of the Paterno era. Too bad he had to go out like this.

As for the actual team, they are #12 right now. If they win remaining 3 games, they will be top 10 and possibly top 5.

Sad end for Paterno, but he fucked up rather badly along with everyone else involved (not that I think he orchestrated some elaborate cover-up, but he should have gone straight to the police).

Uncle Hoody

I feel like the Paterno thing will wind up requiring it's own thread if more people start chiming in on it.

The whole thing is disgusting. I don't know how I feel about Paterno himself being raked over coals for it. I'm seeing strong opinions in both directions. I do know that there's a good bit of people that need to be destroyed over this.

So the title game features 2 SEC teams this year. Oh well.

LSU: Undefeated, best team in the country.
Alabama: Undefeated, except for a 3-point loss to the best team in the country.

SEC is 46-8 against the rest of the country.
OSU lost to an unranked, 6-6 team.
Stanford, the BEATDOWN from Oregon kept you out.

SEC. Owning that ass since 2006. They got tired of beating everybody else year after year, now they have to send two teams because nobody else is good enough. For shame. For the rest of the country who didn't get in, you should have gone undefeated (not you Boise State, TCU, or Houston, you don't count).

BCS. What a crock of shit.
