Jason's Storm

Last Saturday, I was watching the end of ABC's Saturday morning shows and Power Rangers: Operation Overdrive came on and I figured another boring lame show again. Surprise, suprise, a villian named Thrax, who said he was the "son" of Rita and Zedd, and he then had Zedd's staff. I thought wow, this looks interesting. He ended up, with the other villians, interupting the morphing grid, and destroying their morphers. Well the rangers get away, but try to go after the villians with their basic powers and get spanked. Then the Sentinal Knight brings in some old rangers, and gave some of them back their powers. The coolest they brought back was Adam of MMPR's. They actually had Johnny Young Bach back as the black ranger. They gave him a new morphing serquence (similar start though) and "theme song" like the other old rangers. They also brought back Alpha 6 (but he sounded nothing like the other two Alpha's) I just thought it was pretty cool though. They also had Kira (smoking hawt), Tori, Bridge (as a red ranger), and Xander. I'm just glad they didn't stupify, most of the returning rangers, as they have a habit of doing now in days.

Wasn't Rita good the last time we saw her in Mystic Force I think she was called Mystic Mother or something

Yea, I don't count that, as it looks nothing like her, and the idea was basically stupid, as was Mystic Force. Oh they are coming out with Power Rangers Legends video game for Wii and DS.

I think it was the same actress (as the first Rita) as that's what made me notice it when I was channel surfing.
Still I like the idea of bring back past rangers I would like to see an entire series based around that

Different person voicing her though. I have a couple ideas floating around in my head that has that in it, as well as the end of the Power Rangers series.

The original Power Rangers was a pretty decent series. I really enjoyed it as a teenager. I always liked the Black and the Blue ranger the best for whatever reason it seemed like all of the other people liked the White,Red and Green Ranger the best. I think I still have a couple of the action figures around somewhere too....
I also thought PR had some pretty good monsters as well
This is a good Power Rangers website too

The actress who played Rita (Machigo Saga I think was her name) recently died. She played "Rita" (the character had a different name in the original Japanese) way back in the 1970's 'Zyuranger' series. Yep... that (and the effects) footage was nearly 20 years old when they used it in the original "Power Rangers" series.

I was about 12 or 13 and my sister was in love with this show. I remember my friend's mom (she had 2 boys around my sister's age as well) saying "This show is so big with all the toys, I bet within a year they have new rangers, new colors, and everything..."
We're how many years later ? She was correct so many times over.
Tallman I did not realize that!

Power Rangers by far shaped and molded my dramatic side as a child. I watched that show so many times over, I can't even count. Also in an endless number are the times that my friends and I fought over who got to be The Green Ranger.
Remember when they had those 3 prime time episodes introducing Tommy? They were followed by the X-Men mini series when Jean Grey becomes Phoenix.

I remember we used to always play as power rangers when I was younger. I was always Jason because A) he was my favorite, and B) because I'm a natural born leader. I still have the original Megazord on my bookcase here at home. I'll have to find a photo somewhere. I was at Wal-Mart and they had an awesome 5 figurette pack of Red Rangers for the 15th Anniversary. It's sad that it's really been that long. I remember that it had Jason (MMPR) and Tommy (Zeo) but I don't recognize the others. I stopped watching not long after Zeo. I also stopped long before the Turbo Movie.
So is that why the actress for Rita changes in the series? There are 2 different ones, because I don't believe it was the same one when she became human.

The only time I was ever into Power Rangers was when the original five plus Tommy as the Green Ranger were around during the Mighty Morphin' days. I did enjoy Tommy as the White Ranger too but felt the Green Ranger was cooler. After Jason, Zach, & Trini left, I started to lose interest. Jason was probably my favourite next to Tommy.

I posted that just above but it is rumoured that they may do an animated version they did a pilot a while ago but didn't bother doing a series.
I suppose if they do go animated it will be cheaper plus they could do original stuff instead of using footage from the Japanese version

Yeah it's RPM what is the last live action series and I read they only did this because they were forced to as they had 1 year/series left on a contract but they wanted to end it with the Jungle Fury.

Apparently there are no plans for a R1 or UK release. The only real option is to buy the German DVD sets (which have an English language option). I used to own all three original series, and they're well worth it.

Jean-Claude Van Damme -- the most badass fighting sensation of the 90s -- just got challenged to an MMA fight by a guy who used to fight puppets in spandex ... all over an incident from 15 years ago.
The guy issuing the challenge is former White Ranger Jason David Frank, who tells TMZ, he's had it out for Van Damme ever since 1995 when the Muscles from Brussels -- who had been Frank's childhood hero -- allegedly blew him off during the premiere of "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie."
As TMZ previously reported, Frank is now a scary-looking MMA fighter who has a fight next weekend in the Octagon -- and Van Damme is reportedly looking to make his own pro fighting debut ... so the timing couldn't be better for Frank to settle the score.
Frank claims he'll take Van Damme "anytime, anyplace, anywhere" -- and "if [Van Damme's] too scared to come into the Octagon, I'll even take him on in a kickboxing match."
So far, no comment from Van Damme's camp.

I'd rather look like neither -- when it comes to physique, I'd like to have a lean swimmer's build* -- but Yost is more along the lines of my type (if such a thing exists). I'm what you might call a sucker for regular looking people. Too much muscle doesn't really do it for me on either men or women (it looks particularly frightening on women).
*If I could go back in time and work on my body prior to the injury, I'd be shooting for a Thomas Jane in Deep Blue Sea sort of look.

Saban bought the franchise back from Disney after the show was canceled, and almost immediately put it back into production for Nickelodeon. The 2010 remastered version of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was produced for the gap year because it was cheap and easy to throw together, meanwhile Samurai Spirits has been in production.

That's funny dude. Yeah I also knew about the White Ranger before anyone did too. The way I met them was through a friend of my dad's. He used to take my sister and I to a comic convention in Fullerton, California like every Sunday, a big warehouse of traders and buyers and collectors. I bought alot of rare X-Men Toys there.
Anyways, so this guy that my dad traded with worked with a special effects company, and one of the jobs he did was making the Command Center's computers light up for MMPR. I was so stoked because I was a big. I told him I was bummed that Tommy lost his powers. He showed me a picture of the White Ranger standing next to his tree with his hands on his hips. He said that he was going to turn into the White Ranger.
I was so stoked that I knew something about the show no one else did, when I heard kids at school talking about Tommy losing his powers and wishing he would stay on the show, I couldn't keep a lid on it. "He's coming back as the White Ranger!" I'd say to them...and they thought I was crazy. No one believed me.
When he came back and got his new powers, no one said anything to me...
Anyways, I got to go see an episode filmed once with him. That's where I met AJ and Jason and... what's the actors name, Paul Schierer or something?

Recently I watched Dai Rangers, but I'm talking about the American versions I haven't seen in a long time. I should check out those links you sent me. I really miss Zeo though. I think my favorite seasons were the "Thunder" MMPR season and Power Rangers Zeo.

I never heard of Aisha being the Gold Ranger. I always thought that Billy would have gotten the Gold Rangers powers, but if I remember correctly they tried to give them to him but something kept him from receivin them. You're the one watching the show, so you can remind me. But yeah, I was surprised to see Austin return out of nowhere and receive the powers. And it was still pretty brief too. He left just as quick as he returned. :(

Billy left because of the age processing during the Alien Arc was backfiring or something. From what I hear David Yost the actor left because he was bullied for being gay.

Yeah, how did he use the power coin if Goldar destroyed them in MMPR S3? Jason used the Red Power Coin in FOREVER RED, even through he gave it to Rocky.

Nah manga, everything about Zeo was the best. The story, zords, costumes, characters, everything.
ADDED:
And his Zeo powers were destroyed and he had to obtain the Turbo powers, so no the Zeo powers should not be active.

In Season 2 a clone of the Green Ranger was made and fought evenly with the White Ranger. Technically, Jason would still have been stronger then Tommy as the White Ranger.
I wonder if Austin St. John stayed on the show would he have remained leader?
The Dark Vampire
05-13-2011, 11:38 PM
Don't know maybe but Tommy was more popular with the fans I think that was a big reason I still think come Zeo he would of been moved up maybe if Jason had of stayed Tommy would of been made joint leader
On Jason in the Japanese version The Gold Ranger was actually that years Black Ranger which would explain why for a Gold Ranger the costume was more black than gold
Deathscythe
05-13-2011, 11:45 PM
Yeah I can see why Tommy was more popular. Season 1 was mostly story monster of the week and even when they did story arcs they were always about Tommy.

When Tommy came around it was obvious that he had more skill. Jason however had more strength. Jason would have stayed the leader if he would have stayed on the show. I always considered the two equal, but the reason why Tommy was defeated by Jason the first time around was because it was a battle of good vs evil, light vs dark. Lilght will always triumph over darkness.

Really? I always thought it was the over away around. Tommy was kicking Jason's ass until Jason just threw the light saber at Tommy's wrists to make him drop the sword...a trait I would say tributes to skill and not strength. But yeah, I would consider them equals.

I mean martial arts wise. Maybe Jason exibited skill to throw his weapon making Tommy drop his sword, yeah that's skill... but I'm saying out of their costumes Tommy was the more skilled martial artist. Jason was the stronger.
I just had a bit of nostalgia... I remember when Tommy was talking to this little kid about eating good, then he was cursed to crave junk food.

What is your favourite Zord?
Mine is Dragonzord, dude is Mecha Godzilla after all.
Jus-X
05-15-2011, 08:01 AM
I can't just name one overall, I can give one per season.
Dragon Zord was dope because 1) like you said, it was a Godzilla inspired Mecha, 2) it could form with other zords to make Dragon Zord Battle Mode AND Mega Dragonzord.
Of Season 2 I liked the Red Dragon Thunderzord because it could transform into the humanoid "battle mode" and fight like the Mega Zords from season 1. It could also ride upon the back of the Tigerzord. It could ride the Thunderzord Assult Team and get extra power. It combined of course with the others to make a Megazord. It could do so much.
Of Season 3 I liked the Falconzord again, due to it's multiple purpose. Yeah it could fly and fire missles, but it could also combine with the Ninja Megazord AND the Ninja Shogunzord.
Of Power Rangers Zeo I likes the Red Battlezord because it could punch the fuck out of things.
To be honest, once Power Rangers Turbo came out that's where I lost interest. Justin the Blueranger bothered me, the fact that the zords weren't based on animals bothered me, so I didn't really follow it.
Being at home sick with the flu, I saw a weeks worth of Power Rangers in Space with the story of the sixth ranger coming into play, and I really enjoyed it. From this year remember I was so overwhelmed with all of the zords, I couldn't really pick one I liked over the other.

He was a little *Censored* if you ask me. I just didn't like the idea of a little kid having powers to become a grown up in a Power Ranger suit. When I found out that's what Japan did for the Tigeranger in Dairangers I didn't like the idea either. Not saying I didn't like the series, because Dairanger is my favorite installment of Super Sentai series.

Billy left because of the age processing during the Alien Arc was backfiring or something.
Was that the reason? I remember them saying it was because of him absorbing to many negative particles from the Command Center explosion or some crappy excuse like that.

Ok, after re-watching Zeo Tommy's Red Battle Zord has officially replaced Dragon Zord as my all time favourite.
I just wish Zeo had more Rita and Zedd and less of the machine empire. Oh, and more Bulk and Skull interaction with the Rangers. Honestly they just feel like filler characters at this point.

Well I can't wait till I start Zeo. I watched season all the way up to Episode 18 (White Light) but now I'm watching a lot of Quantum Leap. I'd rather watch stuff on my HD TV rather than a laptop with only 720p resolution.
But some funny things I wanted to bring up about season 2, it's funny how they're using Zyuranger fighting footage with Dairanger Zord footage. In costume, the rangers fight the monster, it grows, then the Thunderzords come out and fight. It then becomes a smorgisboard of splicing between the Thunder Megazord and the season 1 monster.
By episode 15 you can tell that Saban finally ran out of episode 1 monters when the new monsters had a very noticable different look to them, there wasn't a lot of footage between the rangers and the monsters, and you finally got to see the Red Dragon Thunderzord warrior mode fight with the monster and not just the camera.
I'm guessing the only reason to add the White Ranger to the mix was because Jason Frank's contract wasn't fulfilled and they ran out of season one monsters, so they made him the White Ranger in order for him to be the sixth ranger using the sixth zord of that season.
Also, I'm wondering if they shot the episodes out of order, because Thuy, Austin, and Walter were all in White Light, but an episode or two beforehand with the floating island, you can hear the obvious voice doubles for these character, and story wise they weren't anywhere near Kimberly, Tommy, or Billy when they were out of costume.
My personal opinion, atleast with the whole splicing of fight footage, Saban should have incorporated the Dairanger costumes into the story just so we still got some good fighting footage with the Rangers and the monsters. He would have easily just said the Zordon gave the rangers a more powerful suit to fight off the stronger monster's of Zedd's. IMO,

Yeah, early S2 has some bad editing. When Rita returns, it starts to pick up.
Speaking of which, how did I miss this?
The actress who played Rita (Machigo Saga I think was her name) recently died. She played "Rita" (the character had a different name in the original Japanese) way back in the 1970's 'Zyuranger' series. Yep... that (and the effects) footage was nearly 20 years old when they used it in the original "Power Rangers" series.
T.M.
Huh? Zyuranger came out in 1992, MMPR came out in 1993. That's a one year difference. Also, all Rita footage from S2 and beyond was brand new American footage.

I know the actual Super Sentai series started in 1977...that should be series one... Super Sentai Zyurangers happens to be season 15... the math is correct. 1977 plus 15 is 1992.

Went to physical therapy today and one of the girls who works there was on a break and doing some stretches infront of me. She was wearing a Mighty Morphin Power Rangers shirt with the white ranger on it except the green ranger. I told her the shirt was awesome. She's probably younger than me, but not that much. She started talking to me about the show. I told her that she was the coolest chick I ever met (since BRama and Melanie Jarvis). When a girl's into the same shit you are, its just awesome.
I married my exact opposite, so to talk to chicks about the things I like is doep.

Re-watching the entire series from start to finish. I'm almost done with MMPR Season 3 and I have to say, so far Season 3 is my new favorite. It just seems like more thought was put into this season. The arcs within the season begin as early as episode 1. There is much foreshadowing to the next season already in the middle of the season, with Billy not being a ranger, the zeo crystals, etc. All of that began in Episode 31.
I even enjoy the idea that Saban had to have the rangers lose their powers halfway through the season and have the Aquation Rangers help them. From the tokusatsu show, the Aquation Rangers are the true power rangers of the original series, so we get alot of uncut battles, we see the real rangers merge with their mecha (zords)... I'm very much enjoying it.

To me, Power Rangers still hold up even to this day. Yes there are some very silly episodes, but in general, the story lines are good and hell, I like the fight scenes :D :D
