View Full Version : Cutting Class
Figured I'd start a thread for this classic 1989 slasher since the DVD will be released on October 23.
IMDB: High school student Paula Carson's affections are being sought after by two of her classmates: Dwight, the "bad boy", and Brian, a disturbed young man who has just been released from a mental hospital where he was committed following the suspicious death of his father. Soon after being released, more murders start happening. Is Brian back to his old tricks, or is Dwight just trying to eliminate the competition?

It's not very good. 4.5/10. But I liked parts. And Brad Pitt was soooooo cute! :)
It's definitley a must have for the slasher collector though. I'm also one of those who enjoy the shitty slashers.

Can't be any worse than the April Fool's Day or Happy Birthday To Me boxarts.

I've never really been of a fan of Cutting Class. It's mildly entertaining...at some parts. But overall, it's kind of boring IMO. It's worth to watch at least once.

Thankfully I picked this up on vhs for $1 so I didn;t lose anything really. It is an ok slasher but far from anything I would watch everyday. Was kind of fun to see Brad Pitt so young though.

Yeah, I agree. It was cool to see him in a very early starring role. Although even Brad Pitt's acting sucked in Cutting Class! Although it was very early in his career, so it's not much of a surprise I guess.
Call me crazy, but I don't think Brad Pitt is that good of an actor today.

Honestly, I don't think he's GREAT either. But his performances are much better compared to his role in Cutting Class.

Brad Pitt was nominated for worst actor of 2007. I wonder if he'll win?

Pitt is good for his niche, and that is like his characters in Kalifornia and Too Young To Die. He's not a pretty boy actor, and sort of has a rugged, white trash look now.

It's pretty cheap too, Chris. I usually see it go for $9.99

I'd definitely pay $10 it. Not too shabby. I wonder if it's any better than Liongate's release of Night of the Demons 2? They REALLY dropped the ball there.

Pitt is ok in some roles but it certainly has to be helped out by the supporting cast IMO. he certainly is no Larry Joshua. :D

I haven't yet seen this flick. I may see if I can borrow it from a friend or associate before I slap down cash to buy it.

I agree, scab. It's a good movie to have to add to your collection. But it's not really a movie you'd watch often.

I agree its not very good.I dont know if ill worry with it again.
I feel the same about movies like Leprechaun, The Prowler, Visiting Hours and many others. I'm glad I have them in my collection, but I can't watch them often.
This is on FearNet now for those that have it.

Isn't this movie actually Slaughter High 2 re-named?
I think it's one of those films that were triple named.

Yes it is.
Slaughter High 3 in other countries is also called Terror Train here.
I always think about how Cutting Class is such a great name for this movie.

Thought it was boring as hell but not terrible. I may warm up to it with more viewings. Not the worst I've ever seen but nowhere near the best. I liked the cast quite a bit but they didn't do much with them. Way to waste the late great Roddy McDowall.
Were we supposed to like Pitt's character or hate him? At times, he was likeable but was a douche for most of the film.
And no twist whatsoever as to who the killer is. Wow.....
I'll give it a 5 out of 10.

No, it's Cutting Class, a standalone, but sometimes referred to as Slaughter High 2. in European countries.
Last night while watching this for the third or fourth time in my life last night I kept thinking how silly, yet comforting it is to watch movies like this.
