Anyone else enjoy these? I have fond memories of going into Blockbuster and renting all those classic 90's b-movies that you just don't see anymore. Of all the films I saw this way I think the Subspecies series is the best. I'm surprised they get such bad reviews because considering the company that made them, they're quite good in my opinion. I think Full Moon was at their best during their Paramount era and have steadily gone down hill and fast. Even the last Supspecies was sub-part at best. I had always hoped Paramount would retain the rights and eventually release the series on DVD. I know Full Moon has released them on DVD with their clever 'Australian' release but from what I hear it has problems. Add to this the films were shot in 1:85.1 and Full Moon doesn't seem to know what this means (hell, they list several of their DVDs as being in WS when they're in fact full frame). I will eventually get the Full Moon set since I just want the damn movies but it's still disappointing. For those who don't know, Full Moon has an 'import' set of the Subspecies series (1-4 + Vampire Journals) they say is from Australia. The sketchy thing that proves it's just a workaround the nasty rights issues that plague their Paramount era films is the DVDs are region 0 and NTSC. Australia is region 4 and PAL :)

Note: Several of the films have been released in various places in Europe and I believe either 1 and 2, or 1 and 3 have been released in Mexico (NTSC) but they are now OOP.

I love these movies and still own the vhs. Radu is one kick ass vampire. Vampire Journals is O.K., but not as good as the Subspecies movies.

I heard the dvd's freeze a lot. Everybody's dvd's were freezing in the exact same spot. That's the only reason I never bought the dvds. Supposedly Full Moon has fixed them now. I've been thinking about buying the set.

Take care and God bless.

The Mexican dvds are for Subspecies 1 & 2. Full Moon re-released the Subspecies dvd box set with a dvd case for each film a number of months ago, so if you order it, you may get either one.

Funny thing about Full Moon, I bought the Subspecies boxset when it first came out, and than when I ordered something else from Full Moon Direct they sent me a second set for free, as a gift. So I have two box sets, plus the mexican dvds. Quite a funny thing if you ask me.:D

Let me know if you want to sell one ;) Anyway, from what I can gather the sets being sold through Full Moon now have been fixed and as you said in separate cases. I don't really trust Anchor Bay so I wouldn't be surprised if they did end up sending the wrong one instead.

The first Subspecies will getting a DVD and Blu-Ray release in time for its Twentieth Anniversary (http://www.joblo.com/horror-movies/news/full-moons-subspecies-20th-anniversary-edition-dvd-and-blu-ray-coming-soon). Copies will be up for sale at the San Diego Comic Con/Geek Pride Parade July 20, and then will availible directly from Full Moon's website July 25.

Im pretty amped for this. They did a great job with the Puppet Master bluray. Don't really love the new cover art though. I can't stand it when they use their action figures to advertise their movies

Speaking of Subspecies, there is a three movie set of the first three Subspecies films at Wal-mart for only $5!! (they also have a three movie set of PM 1 -3 and another set of PM 4 - 6).

And while I realize this refers to a post made back in 2007, those first batch of Subspecies boxsets were eventually corrected by Full Moon in regards to the DVD freezing up problems. FM had sent me replacements back in the day for my set.

At any rate, I'm looking forward to the blu-ray of part 1! I hope they release the rest of the series on BD as well.

Hopefully they'll continue after this. I would love to at least get the first five Puppet Master films on bluray. The first looks fantastic, and PMII in particular would be fantastic because every single DVD ever printed has had the same notoriously bad transfer.

I've never seen these movies but I bought a Full Moon box set at a horror convention last year that has the first 3. I've heard that they are pretty decent and I love early '90s straight to video stuff.

Lance, take my word for it as a die-hard Full Moon fan, they're absolutely worth it and surprisingly sophisticated for FM. Next to Puppet Master, this is their most successful series. Glad to see it making some kind of comeback

I've seen the first two. I have to get this set to see the whole thing. Radu is one scary fucking vampire and none of the "Twilight", sparkly bullshit.

I need to check these out. I've heard people talk about them before every now and then. Color me interested.

Pick up the $5 set at Wal-mart. Part 4 is not included, but I like it, and it finishes the series off well enough (though that could be said of part 3 as well...lol). There's also "Vampire Journals" that you may want to check out, if so, watch it in between part 3 & 4.

Full Moon just posted a youtube video comparing the original transfer side-by-side with the new remastered widescreen transfer. Oh my God. I am so sold on this thing, though I'm pretty sure I was before.

Finally got my hands on the first issue of the Subspecies comic which came out back in 1990. It's cool to see a licensed prequel because I've always wondered what happened prior to the original, but the writing itself was rather poor (surprising, because I didn't expect the Puppet Master comic to be as incredibly well-written as it was) either way, the story is interesting enough that if you can track it down, I'd say it's worth a look.

Because, let's face it. Subspecies 5 ain't happening.
