Alice's baby all grown up?
Grady and Lisa's love child that came about after she found out Jesse liked plugs instead of outlets?
An Elm Street child that managed to stayunder Freddy's radar for a while?
Or just some poor schmuck Freddy used to get to his daughter?
It's not meant to be a debate you have to prove your point about. It's like the "What's your personal canon" thread. You can make up the answer. It can be an idea you've had brewing for a fanfic taking place in between 5 and 6, another horror movie character, anything you want. Make something up.

As far as I'm concerned, the only answer to this question is--
"The last surviving teenager in Springwood at the time 'Freddy's Dead' begins."
No more, no less.

Alice's baby all grown up?
If that was Jacob, he was one piss-poor Dream Master.
Grady and Lisa's love child that came about after she found out Jesse liked plugs instead of outlets?
If Grady was pounding anybody in that movie, it was Jesse...not Lisa. ;)
An Elm Street child that managed to stayunder Freddy's radar for a while?
Freddy told Kristen she was Elm Street's last brat. Given the plots of 4 and 5, you'd think Freddy would be aware.
Or just some poor schmuck Freddy used to get to his daughter?
Bingo.
Make something up.
John was the love-child of Alice's teacher in part 4 and Greta's mother.

The guy suffered amnesia people! He didn't know who he was. Its a simple subject of giving this guy a past. John was probably really the only character of the movie you rooted for. He's looking for answers.
So if I can re-word this another way, if the movie took a different route and didn't kill him off so quickly and information was found out about his identity, what would you hope to find out about him?

You guys crack me up. :)
I'm of the opinion Alice and Jacob left Springwood after Nightmare 5 and lived happily ever after, footloose and Freddy-free.

Alot of people think that John was a Jacob but not me because if he was Jacob he would have the power like his mom had and really if its him then what happen to Alice?
I know in the reject Script it had John to be Jacob and Krueger kill Alice in it but since they didn't use it i go with it was just the last teen left and Krueger use him to get the fuck out of springwood so he can do more killing & be reunited with his lost child

I just think he was the last kid left alive I wouldn't be shocked if Kruger has kept him alive for years or at least months just so he had somebody left to torment until he could find his daughter.

It must have been awkward at Springwood High when there was only, like, John and three others left. Did they consolidate them all down into one class? Or was it "business as usual" for the faculty? Did no other towns find it unusual that Springwood's h.s. sports teams stopped competing?
Did John have to take himself to Homecoming? The prom?

I guaran-damn-tee you Hypnocil just put more thought into that than DeLuca and Talalay ever did.

So Who Was John Doe?
Alright. I admit it. I'm John Doe. Yeah, Freddy thinks he's so big and bad, but here I am alive and well and feeling good. Eat it Dream Master. :D
John Doe was just a random teen. As far as the prom or sports events or whatever, I think it just became common knowledge that the town was dead and a ghost town. Maybe people didn't even know that old people still lived there. I don't think John was even thinking about the prom. He was all drugged up and didn't even know what his real name was.
The Elm Street series, like the Halloween series, followed very good continuity when it came to characters. I would consider Alice and Jacob a loose end in the series, as I would Tommy in the Friday series, and the Strodes in the Halloween series after The Curse of Michael Myers.
I would have loved to see characters like Alice and Tommy come back in Freddy vs. Jason, but he didn't get that. :( We got Tommy back in tha shitty Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash comic. :X

I wouldn't call these people loose ends. They defeated their respective Boogeyman and have moved on with their lives. Their stories end happily, if not perfectly.

Exactly Darth. I frankly never wanted Alice to come back... merely because we saw what happened when Nancy did.

I found him pretty uninteresting in the film, so I wouldn't have minded having John Doe be Jacob. But, Jacob he is not; just some random guy with amnesia and a plot device in his pocket.

I always thought Jesse and all his friends were killed at the end of Elm Street 2.
But I was thinking that he could have been Alice's child, it would make sense.

John Doe was a punk. I thought it was so hilarious that he thought he was Freddy's son. HAHA it cracks me up.
Edit: Alice is the best female character in the series.

Jacob was born ten years before Freddy's Dead, tops. John is simply the last kid alive by the time Freddy has cleaned house in Springwood. There's no special significance to him other than surviving longer than any other kid by sheer chance.
