I voted Rocky IV, what do you think is the best Rocky movie?

This brings up a thing I've often talked about . . . The difference between my FAVORITE movie and the BEST movie. I mean, I think the best (most well made and acted) is still the original. But my favorite is Part 3 simply because it's the most fun. I watch it more often.

Thats how I feel about Halloween, H1 is the best but H4 is my favorite.

The original... but the only reason RB isn't as good as 1... no Talia Shire.

Rocky Balboa just edges out Rocky for me. I don't know why. It's very close between those two though.

How about "I pitty da foo" from Part 3? People often forget that line was first used in that movie.

I said Rocky II. To me, that movie was everything a sequel should be. It began the moment the original ended, and it expanded upon the story rather than re-hashing it. Emotionally, it was probably the best. And as for the climactic fight between Rocky and Apollo, that was some pee-pants action right there. "You ain't never getting rid of me."

And I don't think many people know that that line was actually penned by Sly Stallone. It is in the script.

Right! That's true. Yet it's become Mr. T's catch phrase. I wonder if he has to pay royalties.
I think Stallone is a good writer. He's not the dumb guy so many people (including my roommate) take him for.

One needs only to read an interview with him or watch him in some DVD bonus features to see that he's actually a very eloquent and well-spoken man.

I agree with what you are saying. There is a difference between best and favorite. I think the best movie is either the first one or the last one, but my favorites are part 3 and 4.
Take care and God bless.

I dunno, I don't have any one particular favorite film in the series. I like them all, even the fifth film despite some of the cheese.

Part 5 annoyed me. I'm so glad they didn't kill Rocky off in that one like they planned because that would be a terrible way for him to go out.

As a kid I would have picked 4, as it was your typical 80s action movie, and capitalized on the cold war. But now I go with 1 or 2. 2 I guess since he won in the end.
But 6 gets honorable mention for me as my friend was in it.
I love them all the same (including 5) so I can't choose.

I have to say I'm a fan. I also love part 5.
I simply couldn't vote. At least not yet.
I'll be thinking about it though.

I'm going with 4. He aveneged a death, changed a nation, fought not just a man, but a goliath! And that montage was hella awesome. Rocky 4 is still one of the most inspirational movies i've ever seen.

I really love part 2, but at the same time I also feel Part 2 is just part one with the happier ending, so I'll say my favorite is Part 1.
Rocky Balboa is a VERY close second/third, however I do think the fight in this one is the best in the whole series. Infact...

Well I guess that depends on your sensibilities, Sketch. I feel that somebody loving you is FAR happier than winning some belt.

You've got a point there, but Rocky holding the belt up, screamin "Yo Adrian, I did it!" makes me weep more than Rocky 1's ending. Maybe you're right, its sensibilities.

Maybe it's a girl thing but I think I've found myself in love with certain belts.
Anyway I agree that the ending of Part 1 was happier. He went the distance, got the girl and for the first time in his life felt like he was on top of the world. (And for some reason I love the added touch of the guy in the crowd taking Adrian's hat . . . and then Rocky asking about it.)

The first one is by far the best, with Balboa being the best sequel. Two and three are good, while four is excruciatingly bad. Part five isn't as bad as people make it out to be, but it's still not an outstanding film, either.

DM, I think until RB came along V was the best of the sequels. It was more about the man than it was boxing and I really dug that. It had more heart than the others I thought. Everyone else just wanted mindless boxing action.
Netra, nobody steals Adrian's hat. It just falls off during her rush to the ring.

I'm not so sure it was the best sequel until Balboa, but it was miles better than Rocky IV for the reasons you stated. Also, I don't understand why everyone criticizes it because it's so depressing. I mean, yeah, Rocky loses all his money, but I think that was a good thing because it took the series back to its roots, and those roots are the man Rocky Balboa.

I also thought V was the best directed of the sequels, which helps it considerably in my eyes. Finally with RB did Sly's directing beat out Avildsen's (until then, I didn't think his direction of II-IV was better than what Avildsen did). Sly was artistic as hell last time out.
America's a very materialistic society and they couldn't get past the fact Rocky was still broke at the end of V, which was totally backwards to the idea Sly wanted to get across. He wanted to show how family and being close to your family was the most important thing in life, not money or prizes. But as Kelso said about "Rocky I"'s ending "Who wants to see a movie with a message like THAT?!"
Oh... and no fighting in the ring. Yeah, they hate that too. :/

Rocky IV
It's the most "80s" out of the series & pretty ridiculous. It's a fun movie with an awesome soundtrack. Some of the best training montages too.
