I'm hoping the Panthers draft Nick Fairley #1 overall. He's the key cog that missing in our defense. I'd like to see a savvy veteran QB signed to mentor and compete with Jimmy Clausen for the starting job. I think we'd be set then.
As far as the CBA is concerned, I'm kind of worried about it. I haven't seen any evidence that much progress has been made, but at least both sides have been meeting for the past week. I guess if there is a lockout, the good thing will be the Panthers will pick 1st again in 2012, but I'd rather have football of course.
So what are your hopes your your team?

I want Da'Quan Bowers instead of Fairley, mostly because the Panthers are going to suck out loud still, but at least I'll get to see one of my favorite players every week.
As for the CBA, I think shit will get done.

He's a baller, but DE is a position we're pretty thick at with Charles Johnson (who I pray they re-sign), Tyler Brayton, Greg Hardy, and Everette Brown. If they don't draft a DT, they're going to be hard pressed to find a good one in Free Agency.
ADDED:
By the way, what do you think about the hiring of Ron Rivera?

Good hire as far as I'm concerned. Thought it was only a matter of time before he became head coach, and I'm glad the Panthers got him. I like having a defense-minded guy as head coach, even though the team is severely offensively challenged. The new OC seems like a bit of a risk, but anything has to be better than what we had before. I kind of wish they'd trade for Donovan McNabb, but I guess they want to develop Clausen.

Bad news on the CBA front. Talks came to a screeching halt as the owners walk out because the two sides are so far apart on negotiations.

I hope this isn't like it was with the NHL back in 2004. It would really suck without NFL football, oh well, at least I've got the shitty CFL to watch.

My Eagles are likely to trade Kolb so he can finally start as a QB somewhere.

I wouldn't mind my team picking up Kolb, but I'm sure they're going to be asking a high price for him. Personally, I think he's worth a 2nd or 3rd round pick at best. I'd like to see Rivera bring in Billy Volek, the backup QB for the Chargers. He wouldn't be a long term answer, but we need a mentor to Jimmy Clausen, and insurance if he can't cut it in training camp.

I'd like to see the Vikings pick up Kolb, or a decent QB for the long-haul. I've been a fan of theirs for about 25 years; they can never keep a QB for more than a few years. They keep getting guys at the tail-end of their career or draft guys who are, at best, average. The only exception was Culpepper, but he went from good to suck in a matter of 3 or 4 seasons. Can't fault them for letting him go.
After all these years, I'm losing interest in the NFL. More to the point, I'm losing interest in my team. If they don't make the Superbowl in the next few years, I'll probably switch teams or stop watching altogether. I've watched perennial doormats such as the Saints, Cardinals, and Bucs come out of nowhere and go to the big game. My team is pretty damn good year-in, year-out, yet they always find ways to fuck up. The last time they made it was 34 years ago.

With Leslie Frazier taking over the reigns, and with a good draft, I can easily see the Vikings making a quick turnaround.

As Friday draws nearer, the certainty of the lockout is becoming more and more likely.
Results will likely be: Players get more money and better insurance and an additional bye-week. Owners get 2 extra games and the end of Preseason plus more profits likely from other aspects of the league.e

Well the NFLPA has decertified and a lockout is all but certain now.

The NFL is forgetting a time when they were small potatoes compared to college football. It may be the most popular league out there today, but times change. If we lose an entire season, I wonder how much of a negative impact it will have on the ratings and future of the league.
I blame the owners. They want an extra billion and an 18-game season?

A Cleveland Browns fan is suing the NFL over the lockout. His claim is a breach of contract on his PSL.

Well the lockout is over (for now) and the draft starts tonight. I think my Panthers are going to select Cam Newton or Marcel Dareus #1 overall. I'd be happy with either one of them, even though Dareus would be the safer pick. But Newton definetely the high risk, high reward type pick

Oh I HOPE so bad the Panthers take Cam Newton :-) Should guarantee the Saints a top 3 finish every year in the NFC south (yeah, I know Atlanta and Tampa still have to pick bad too).

It looks like a lot of progress has been made in the past couple of weeks to reach a new CBA.

Looks like we're going to have football this season after all. The owners and players have agreed on the economics of the new CBA with an agreement in principal expected to come next week. Teams will have approximately 72 hours to re-sign their free agents.
Hope the Panthers can re-sign DeAngelo Williams and Charles Johnson.

This is the worst news ever for Panthers fans. Now they actually have to watch them play all sixteen games this year.

As a football fan, not as a Saints fan, I am *VERY* curious to observe the Panthers this year.

Hmm, I think they'll be better than last season now that the predictable playcalling is gone (that's Denver's Baby now). I'm not predicting any championships or anything, but I do predict better than last year's 2-14 record for the Panthers as long as the O-line holds up. This lockout hurt my team more than any other team because the new coaching staff couldn't associate with the players.
If Cam can rise to the NFL level of what he did in college, I can definetely see them being competitve next season.

Vikings may seal a deal with McNabb soon. If so, I hope they sign Sidney Rice. I like their new coaching staff as well.
I'm sure the Packers, Jets, and Patriots will make the playoffs. The Redskins and Bengals will be awful. Every other team is a mystery (even the Colts). IMO, the NFL is so unpredictable. Your team may have been bad last year, but they could suddenly contend (and vice versa).
Chiefs came out of nowhere last year. Any predictions for a new upstart team? Even though the Lions are in my team's division, I'd like to see them make the playoffs. Their fans have suffered plenty. Detroit could have a winning team on their hands.

Saints have way too many free agents to resign and most of them have chips on their shoulders due to the SB ring and are commanding too much to resign.

Patriots picked up Albert Haynesworth AND Chad Johnson. Neither played well last year, but New England has a way of getting the best out of players (Moss, Corey Dillon, etc.).

Eagles Cornering Market: Asomugha Joins Crowded Corps
The Eagles have announced a five-year deal with the top free agent on the NFL market, corner Nnamdi Asomugha, who joins Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, the corner they acquired yesterday from Arizona, and Asante Samuel in what is the NFL's most prolific and best-paid corner corps. More to come
Wow, 3 pro bowl caliber CBs now? Maybe we will trade Samuel.
We also got Vince Young as our back up.
Monkey

You guys have Vince Young, too? Damn.
My prediction for the SB: Patriots vs. Eagles. Rematch of XXXIX.
Lions may make the playoffs. Hard to do, though, with the Packers & Bears in the same division.

Yeah a lot of people are picking the Eagles in the NFC. Sucks because I am in Afghanistan! My Phillies are clear favorite for World Series, Eagle early favorites for SB, and Flyers have a totally revamped team. I might need to cut this deployment short!

People at work think Im just fucking around when I say I have money stashed away to be able to fly to Philly when the Phillies win the World Series again and then fly back up when Eagles win the Super Bowl.
Either they're jealous fucks because they don't have that much sitting around or they think it won't happen. I think they're just jealous fucks.

Randy Moss has retired (for now?).
I didn't get to see Jerry Rice play very much, but when Moss played his first year with the Vikings... he was better than anybody. My friend (a cowboys fan) invited me over for Thanksgiving, and the game became the Randy Moss show. He only had 3 catches, but all 3 were over 50 yards and went for touchdowns (3 rec, 163 yards). My bud was PISSED, and I couldn't stop laughing...
I'd like to see him play at least one more season. :|

I'm anxiously awaiting the NFL season. I'm very curious to see how all the deals my Jets made will pan out. I'm cautiously optimistic. Cautious is the key word.
Edit: I don't understand why Randy Moss is retiring. He's old but not THAT old. He could still play 2-3 more years.

Wow that was a painful off-season. I didn't bother following the lock-out or watching the back and forth between the players and owners. I'm just glad it'd over.
Since the NFC Championship game I've been looking forward to a new season. Only a few more weeks to go.
