HOWARD STERN MAY BE POPPING HIS REMAKE CHERRY AFTER ALL
08.14.07
By Devin Faraci
Contributing sources: Slashfilm
Four years ago Howard Stern announced that he’d be producing and ‘presenting’ a remake of Bob Clark’s teen sex classic Porky’s. In the years since it looked like the project had quietly just slipped away, as so many planned movies do. But now Slashfilm is reporting that Stern says the movie is back on track and actually greenlit. “They say they can even start shooting in October, but I don’t know if that’s true,” Stern said, apparently on his radio show.

According to Slashfilm, Stern has said that there are two competing scripts and what they’re doing now is combining them into one ubermovie. “We’re going to combo them now because there’s funny jokes in both and you have to figure out which is better for the movie. And I obsess on shit too because you want it to be good.”

Smells like another strike movie to me! As Slashfilm notes, the future of the Porky’s remake will hinge on how Superbad does this weekend; a great opening for that movie will convince studio types that the R-rated teen comedy is good business, even though I venture that a Howard Stern version of Porky’s would be wildly different from the greatness, heart and hilarity of Superbad.

Eh, I'm not sure I want a remake of Porky's...there's no need for it.

Being that Porky's is one of my favorite movies/series, I'm not sure that I'm up for a remake. I'll wait till I hear more on where this is going, before I get dissapointed, or excited.

I absolutly love Porky's but absolutly hate American Pie. So I hope it doesn't end up being as stupid as American Pie. But that's my opinion.:D

Same here. It's like one month it's getting made for sure, and the next maybe not. So maybe this time we'll see it finally start shooting, but that might not be a good thing.

Who's gonna be able to fill the shoes as Pee Wee, or even Ballbricker?:(

Off the record, I don't know about you guys, but I'm pissed about that album. Last year, I taped the Saturday night classic metal music videos during Metal Month, and on one of the tapes, Eddie Trunk says before introducing the video to Sweet Child O' Mine that he had Axl come into the studio and talked to him for 2 hours about assorted shit. He always says that Axl confirmed that Chinese Democracy would be out that Fall (2006). Now when I watch that tape I always wail "BULLSHIT!!!" in an Axl voice at the screen.

This Porky's things sucks too. Nobody can scream like Kim Cattrall in the original.

God help us.

Private Parts blew, and now he's destroying another Bob Clark movie? I remember Clark mentioning this in an interview. Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things, another Clark movie, is also slated for a remake.

What next Christmas Story?

Wish Hollywood would stop trying to remake classic moives. Howard Stern is gonna ruin porky's

meh..you can't really ruin the original just by remaking it.

I agree... the original is still the original and the same as it always was. Nothing can change that.

What it can do is prevent someone from wanting to watch the original.

Well, that is just ignorance.

However, it can make someone want to watch it. Shit, a bad review can make someone go either way.

I also think that remakes boost the curiosity in the viewer to see the original. It's almost like an advertizement for the original film. I know a lot of people who had no idea that Black Christmas was a remake, and after discovering that it was they wanted to see the original, The same can be said about me after see the DOTD remake. Sure, I knew it was a remake, but I saw te remake before the original.

If Porky's does get finally remade, I think people will have a curiousity towards the old trilogy. If they know it exists, lol. I mean, if people like the remake, and find out that more Porky's films exist, it pretty much should have them heading out to track the old ones down.

I wonder how many people went to go rent the Dawn remake and then saw the other one and just from that ended up seeing it?

It happens.

I've seen that happen to people. They're either extremely pissed or surprised. I'm not really for remakes but I have to say I haven't watched one of the recent remakes that made me cringe. I like to see what people can do with them before I give it the thumbs up or down.

A lot of people hated the Black Christmas remake. I didn't. I thought it was a fun, gore-filled, so badly forced backstory that it's good movie. Everybody has different taste I guess.

Black Christmas was pretty bad, I guess, I dunno, I need to re-visit it sometime.

I thought the BC remak/sequel was garbage myself.

It was more a sequel than a remake.

Where's the Porky's redo? (http://www.moviehole.net/200919415-exclusive-wheres-the-porkys-redo)

Howard Stern’s “Porky’s” remake has been on-and-off more times than Pink and her biker boyfriend. And according to writer David H.Steinberg, the smutty remake of the Canadian classic is still far from erect.

‘’We were on the fast track last summer and then I guess the problem with the credit market put the brakes on it’’ Steinberg, whose latest film, "American Pie "Book of Love", just wrapped in Canada. “My understanding is that it is still greenlit and going into production this year”.

The new film is a “true remake” says Steinberg, adding that it keeps “fairly close to the original but updating some key elements. For example, it takes place present day and in San Diego instead of Florida. But most of the original characters return and some scenes are clear homages to the originals.”

Hrm, moving it to present day is interesting, and probably preferable to trying to mimic the 50s again.

What does this mean about the sequel though? Are both gonna happen?

God, I read a draft of the script to this. Truly fucking awful. I hope they get their shit together and start from a page one rewrite. It basically takes a shit on the original. I have no faith in this project (well, I never had faith in this to begin with, being a remake and all).
