Board was down when I was going to post then went to my girlfriends for the weekend and I forgot about it. Not an excuse, just letting everyone know what happened there with me.

Hoody, I IMed you cause I wanted to ask for Speck's e-mail addy so we could all email him our picks (those of us who couldn't post it in time before the board was down). I sent mine to Monkey.

This is why I believe if you miss a week, you should automatically get all the home teams.
That's what we did in our old football pools.
Going 0-16 for a week because you forget to, or can't, pick your games is wrong.

Speck i hope you dont go to this awfull idea cause if so im out.Why should someone get free wins for being lazy or forgetting to pick ? 8 free wins yeah that sounds real fair sorry Monkey but this idea is just awfull. I dont see the problem i post my picks every Tuesday and Brama,Speck,DM, etc have there picks in every week for the last 4 years now.

Going 8-8 for the week is a lot more realistic than 0-16. Who has ever lost every single game? It's completely unrealistic. There should be some sort of safety net: home teams, a bye week (using win/loss pct.), 6-10 for the week, etc.
Going 0-16, you practically have to be Rain Man to catch up. Don't eliminate somebody from winning the whole competition because they missed a week. At least consider an option for next season, put it up to a vote. That's all I'm saying.
Especially, if it's due to a glitch. BUT, I think it should only be like 1 time only. If you miss more than 1, then too bad for you.
Violent VictiM
09-29-2010, 11:40 PM
I was initially against this, but after thinking about it someone would probably gather 8 or more wins. It should be lowered though. One week last year I went like, 4-12. Had I just not participated and chalked it up to "glitch" I would have done better.
I don't know, it's fair but it's unfair. Maybe have the honor system and ask them to say who they picked honestly, and they can only garner up to 8 wins at the most. Or since it's going to be 14 games a week for awhile, the most they can get is 7 wins. Even if they go 10-4 they can only have 7 of those wins.

Going 8-8 for the week is a lot more realistic than 0-16. .
Just making the picks every week like i do ,Speck does DM does ,Chaos,Brama, etc.etc, etc does every week for the past 4 years seems the most realistic.None of these people have got free wins is this Madden online PS3 a glitch ? All these people have earned there ALL there wins
Who has ever lost every single game? .
Those who have not picked there games in time for Thurs,Sat,Sun.
It's completely unrealistic. .
Not really if you dont post your picks you got none right its pretty cut and dry.
There should be some sort of safety net: .
Thats easy there make your picks a week in advance and turn them into Speck,Me or Forum Staff,
home teams, a bye week (using win/loss pct.), 6-10 for the week, etc. .
Wow i really want out if it gets down to all this stuff. Speck if i miss a week i want 0-16 because thats what i earned. And Hoody i give you props for accepting your 0-16 you was man enough to say hey i made my bed ill lye in it.
Going 0-16, you practically have to be Rain Man to catch up..
Or just post your picks like everyone else or pick in advance.
Don't eliminate somebody from winning the whole competition because they missed a week. At least consider an option for next season, put it up to a vote. That's all I'm saying.
Monkey i dont want to be enemies here especially over this i like you your my friend. So im gonna finish by saying this and then im done talking about it.I think it is perfect the way it is post your picks count up your records it seems pretty cut and dry.Changing this and giving out free wins would be wrong to Speck who is taking his time to go through and do all our records. Its wrong to everyone who is a part of this thing. Come on lets keep this thing fun.
What is so hard about just posting your picks like everyone else ?
Uncle Hoody
09-30-2010, 03:42 AM
Well I do my picks late because I weigh injury reports, transactions, etc... that occur during the week. What happened this past week sucks, but it is what it is.
I had a week last year where I worked overnight and woke up at like 12:10 freaking out b/c I didn't do my picks. I didn't even turn my TV on, grabbed my laptop, posted the picks, and shot a PM to the organizer.
Violent VictiM

It seems the topic of "auto-wins" is going to spark quite the amount of posts so I created this so there aren't 20 posts in between picks. Also, it hadn't been created yet.
Any who...
Utell, you have to account for error. Someone who was lazy and just plum forgot (a'la yours truly around week 14 last year) doesn't deserve an automatic 8-8 record. However, if someone had a storm that week and their Interwebz goes down.. it's hardly fair to hold them accountable for that.
We're all trustworthy people here. That's why I feel putting them on the honor system and allowing them only up to 8 correct picks is the best way to go. This way, even if their picks would have made them 11-5, but they changed two teams, it eliminates cheating.
Gotta cut some slack, Utell. Like Hoodie said, he waits till late to assess his picks. I do too. Sometimes the day of just because there are a lot of factors you need to weigh in. Sometimes I'll put my Thursday picks in, and change them before Sunday just because I want to make the deadline.

Great idea on this thread cause its needed. I understand yours and Monkey's side. And its not a thing of honesty cause i believe everyone involved in this board is honest all good people here imo.
What about if problems other than laziness or forgetting happens a person can simply contact someone here by phone or email and there picks will be posted ?
Its really not my deccision what rule is made.I still dont think its cool to get any free wins BUT i am hearing your side.Like i said if this 7-7,8-8 thing does happen and i miss a week im taking a 0-16 or 0-14 that week.Cause if my CPU goes down im done and out anyway. If electric goes out this would be where a phone number comes in nice.
Trust me VV and Monkey im not trying to be a ignorant smart ass about it. Im willing to compromise but i just dont like any free wins that really bothers me it has nothing to do with honesty.
Maybe the forum staff here can help on this one ? DM, Chaos,Speck,Hoody,Brama ? Some help ? Some input some suggestions lets fix this thing put it to a vote and get on with it and have fun.
What about this idea posting your picks a week ahead of time bare with me here. Ok say Sunday 12:50 PM comes and you want to do some changes due to injuries well then do so edit your picks ? What is so hard about this ?
If you post your picks a week in advance and did not get the chance to fix or change them.Well at least your getting your 14,16 game record honestly.Wheter its bad or goood ?
And can someone in the Forum Staff PLEASE clean out all those post in the NFL picks thread including mine, if anything cant they be copy and pasted over to this thread ? That thread looks like a mess now sorry Speck.

Here's my opinion on the matter:
If you were too lazy to post your picks or just forgot, you shouldn't get any free wins.
If your internet goes down for some reason and you can't call anyone (which is my case cause I can't afford making calls to the US) maybe there should be an exception. If the board goes down, then emailing Speck with your picks should be the thing to do.
This is a situation where each case should be considered, it's not black or white. At least I don't see it that way.

Or me, i dont mind helping , Speck might be running it this year but if something happens he wants me to take over or needs any help im right here.
My opinion is if its not broke dont fix it and it seems like its been fine for 4 years now.
So my vote is leave it alone how it is now but i can understand the internet loss or board goes down im not impossible here.

I'm surprised it took this long to come up, honestly. This is the fifth year.
Look, essentially what Utell is trying to say in a nicer way cause he's a nice guy, I'm a prick I don't care, is don't be a douchebag. If you forgot to pick, take the losses and either drop out or keep going for fun's sake. If you do drop out you should probably shout Speck so he doesn't continue to post your meaningless record.
If your interwebz goes down, you get a free chance to be truthful. Don't be a douchebag deluxe and change your games to get ahead, but we can limit this by giving them even say a 9 win limit just so they can stay in contention. If you're really honest and you get lower than 9, well kudos to you.
Realistically even if you go 8 wins or less, you're theoretically probably still in the hunt or way out of it so why bother lying?
If you just forgot well then refer to the start of the post.
So I think we basically need to establish the win limit, if that passes (like this is legislation).

Perhaps a 'bye' week, one time a year.
You forget to post one week, storm, internet's down, site's down, etc.
No record for the week, just 0-0. At the end, the person with the highest win-loss pct. wins.
Forget to post again, every game counts as a loss. No excuses.
It just seems that a handful of people don't pick for a week, each year, for whatever reason.
A bye week would eliminate the one time they made a mistake that costs them the season.

Close maybe but there is no way at the end of the season the highest win-loss pct should win.Thats total bull crap. Ill even give you a rough example here.
week 17 season totals listed
Utell 200-56
Speck 200-72
In this situation Speck is the leader and the champ not me cause i have fewer losses.Heck if we go with this system heck week 15 on i might have to use the dog ate it excuse take a 0-0 and climb to the top spot cause i would have fewer losses. In the end its up to Speck but i still stick to my words if i miss a week ill take a 0-16 whoever else wants the other way they can do whatever with the records.

Actually, Utellme, you would win because you have a higher winning percentage.
It's not about the most wins, losses, or games. It's whoever has highest win/loss ratio.
I'll give you the example of how it would work.
CURRENT (Week 3):
Banana-Rama: 34-14 (.708)
Monkey: 31-17 (.645)
bearholic247: 30-18 (.625)
girlychaos: 29-19 (.604)
Special Killa B: 28-20 (.583)
jasonrules: 28-20 (.583)
ViolentVictiM: 27-21 (.562)
Speck: 27-21 (.562)

TheShowstoppa: 24-24 (.500)
Jason's Storm: 24-24 (.500)
Uncle Hoody: 17-31 (.354)
Now, if you throw out the weeks that members didn't get their picks in on time ('Bye' week):
(JS, Week 2: 3-13)
(UH: Week 3: 0-16)
This is what the standing would look like:
REVISED (Week 3):
Banana-Rama: 34-14 (.708)
Jason's Storm: 21-11 (.656)
Monkey: 31-17 (.645)
bearholic247: 30-18 (.625)

The second set of records is much more realistic. Indicative of a member's ability to pick games. Disregards an 0-16 and 3-13 week which in no way whatsoever is reflective of their ability to pick games.
Hood would go from dead last to a winning record.
JS would go from next-to-last all the way to second place. From the basement to legitimate contender, has a shot to win it all.
I'm not lazy, but I've got a lot of other things in life I have to focus on. And my memory is terrible. I could easily miss a week.
There's no way in hell I'd win this thing if I go 0-16 for a week. It's an automatic elimination tool.
That was an idea. For next season. To discuss or vote on.
I won't comment on it again until after the season is over. :)

What's going to crack me up on all of this? If Hood makes a daring bounce back to #1. This is, after all, only week 4. There's still 13 weeks left.
I'll agree to vote on this next year. I knew something like this would happen, but in years' past, if I forgot a week because I had to work, etc and just plain forgot - I'd stop playing for the season. I knew I had no chance in hell of bouncing back. 0 - 16 would hurt someone like me WAY too much. Here I am sitting .500 and trying to salvage my season. I gotta hit the money or I'm standing alone on Revis Island being shut down for another season!

I don't have a clue in hell who won or lost this week and I'm not even going to bother to check. Not going to watch monday night football either. Just gonna wait until after MNF & see how I did when Speck posts.
Oh yeah. Some of you probably seen this before... but I had a 100% guarantee pick once when I lived in Germany. Made 10 bucks off of my mom. I lived in Kitzingen back in '85-89. Because Germany is 9 hours ahead of the east coast, they always showed monday night football on tuesday night. Nobody had the internet or cell phones back then, and phone calls were EXPENSIVE.
However. :D
Headline News was on four hours before the game aired on tuesday night and they showed the score. Heh heh. Easiest 10 bucks I ever made. I even told my mom about it the next day, she laughed, called me a little shit (or unsuccessful abortion... I can't remember :sniffle:) and told me I could keep the money anyway.

Come to find out I went 10-4, sweet. There were a few games I was going to change as well. I wanted to pick the Jags for some odd reason but I was pretty sure Gerard would blow, which he kinda did, who coulda guessed Scobee was good for 59 yards?

It's the NFL. Each team will start 45 highly paid professionals. Anything can happen in any one of them games.
Violent VictiM
10-10-2010, 04:25 PM
Very true, but I mean. Some of those professionals are better at the sport currently than others. And looking at the course of how this season has gone, the Jets have the better weapons. Adrian Peterson has been that entire football team. Favre is a shell of himself, and hurt.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that if anything that just shows how smart of a fan you are.It goes 1 of 2 ways.
1. It either works from the reverse psycholgy approach.
2. Or your willing to deal with reality just because its your favorite team does that mean there 16-0 no fan police will arrest you for picking opposing team.
Now this week i picked Minn over Dallas , Dallas is my favorite team but there done, garbage junk. And they were going into Minnesota this was a no brainer pick.
Another no brainer pick was SF over Oakland QB J Campbell = loss everytime plus SF was due to win. Buffalo is another team thats due.
Mang i could be 12-0 with a chance of 14-0 and i missed on the Ravens and Chargers oh well 12-2 is what im hoping for now.

I think that's a little unfair. So, if I can't pick against my team, I'm not smart? That's ridiculous.
I'm pretty realist and I knew there was a big(ger) chance that the Vikings would win. Was I 100% sure though? No, cause I don't have a crystal ball, and it's football, so anything can happen. Especially this season.
Most of the games we pick every week could go either way. I wasn't the only one who picked the Cowboys, so I don't think it was a no-brainer at all, and it was pretty close anyway. Even though they're pretty much done, it'll still be hard for me to pick against them. It's very personal, but it has nothing to do with being smart or not, it's just a choice we make, whatever our reasons might be.

Fair enough Chaos im just done and tired of hearing excuses for Dallas. The facts is there 1-4 there one of the most penalized teams in the league point blank there not a good team there are alot of problems coach, lack of running game, turnovers, penalties.
Oh well i like football enought that there is other teams i like to see win.Instaed of wasting time on a 1-4 team.
Sorry if i offended you or anybody else but i still say the 2 games i mentioned was no brainers sorry just the way i see it.

I think that's a little unfair. So, if I can't pick against my team, I'm not smart? That's ridiculous.
How many 16-0 seasons do our favorite teams have ?

Nah, it's fine...I just think you went too far there with the "smart" comment. But god, am I frustrated. I actually think our team is good. Turnovers and penalties are killing us...well killed us, cause there's no way we're bouncing back this season.
I still enjoy watching other teams too. There are at least 3 other teams I have fun watching. But I'm sad, I had high hopes for my 'Boys this season.
Oh well.

And i hear you also yes we do have some good players but consistency seems to effect all of them.
Romo -Ints,turnovers But i did like how he decided to run in this game today.
FG Kicking-- If we need a FG we are done.
Lack of running game no consistencey cause the running game dont get its fair chance to get rythm.
Defense Jenkins has been a real disappointment this year.
Penalties ,turnovers ,missed FG'S And as far as im concerned Wade Phillips has worn out his welcome he dont impress me.
Also Dallas has no identity Steelers have Defense as theres other good teams have there identities.Dallas has none no consistency to find one either.
Are we a shut down defense no
Are we a ground and pound team no.
Are we a 30 + point offense no.
Are we a 13 points a game defense no.
Any of these last 4 Dallas has the talent to do but all the stuff mentioned above washes all this out.

Running game was working there with Barber and Jones for a while, but it's not enough.
I agree with most of the things you said. But what killed us was basically penalties and turnovers, I don't see how it couln't be worked on, but it couldn't. It's a shame.
Dallas is getting owned by players getting penalties. This is like week 4, really hard to pick and no real clear cut standout winners in the majority of the games. Look at the 49'ers.

Pretty much all the games have been really close, too. A lot of them going to OT.
Also, the only undefeated team was the Chiefs (???) and that ended what, two weeks ago. We usually have two or more teams undefeated until week 6 at least. Even the teams that have more losses than wins don't look that bad right now.
Remember the Dolphins a couple seasons back? And the Lions last season.

Dallas was 5 for 5 on 3rd downs running the ball and what do they do on 3rd down and 1 in the 4th quarter they throw Minn the game winning pick ?
[QUOTE=Banana-Rama;430146] Look at the 49'ers.
49ers were way past due and Campbell was starting for the Raiders Campbell just straight out sucks id pick a college team playing against him.
Watch out for the Buffalo upset cause there next i dont think it will happen against Balt but its coming.

Going 9 - 4 this weekend as opposed to 2 - 11 last weekend really helped move me up in the rankings. Now I need to have another weekend like that. LET'S GO ME!
Two of the three people tied for first are women :p

THAT'S IT! We're also going to add on America's Next Top Model and that Project Runway show so men can show women what's up in their dept! ;)
Seriously though, I'm proud of the women! This is the newest past time and I think it shows that not all men always know what they're talking about. :sniffle:

Yeah, who cares about women's suffrage and how far you've all come as a sex since the 1950's when women are picking one team or the other and atop the pick 'em rankings!?
O.o
Just kidding! I have sour grapes because of three bad weeks in a row. Maybe we should look into bringing this onto a website. Save bandwidth, save the counter the headaches, looks more professional.. I'll research now.

Facebook has an app that you can do it on, but I'm not sure everybody has Facebook. We can do something different next season. I don't mind the counting.

At least where I am from, not too many humans with boobies, and no balls, liked football, or could pick the winners of games, better than our physically stronger counterparts :p :lmao:

Eh to me its all humans picking games having fun. Im not one for breaking stuff down so far as like oh im the only Canadian or im the only Hispanic ,etc ,etc. Going that route we could go on all day finding stuff to seperate.Like Im the only Jamie making football picks so who cares i make picks just like any other human.
Its all good just have fun picking games.

We're all humans indeed. But some things are just "easier" and more likely for a man to do and some things are the same way for women.
You don't usually see a lot of women loving and knowing a lot about football, just like you don't usually see a lot of men who know all about make-up for example. It happens, sure...but it's the exception, not the rule.
We're not wanting any kind of "special" treatment, obviously. In my case it goes beyond, cause football still isn't a very popular sport here. I don't even know anyone who likes it or understands it here. So, the fact that I am a Brazilian woman who loves and understands football is something unique.
Whenever people come talk to me about sports - especially soccer, that I hate - and I tell them I'm into football, you should see the faces they make. Kinda like I'm an alien or something. :p

As a result standings are getting real tight in the top 5 should be a interesting run to the end of the season.
And Usually when someone gets in first place they seem to stay for the season this season has all ready had 4 different people in 1st place and we are only half way.

If I can get tonight's game right, I'll be satisfied enough with this week. Broncos and Giants games were the most surprising. Couldn't believe that shit. My man Chansi Stuckey fumbling against the Jets cost me too. :(

Yeah picking the Browns was definetley not a bad idea i was gonna pick them also there quite improved with Hillis running the ball. And i like that they went with McCoy at QB.
And is it just me or is Broncos and Jaguars 2 of the hardest teams to pick this season you just dont know what your gonna get.
Also at the end of the DEN VS KC game KC Coach Todd Haley would not shake hands with Head coach Josh Daniels anyone know what this is about ?
Haley seems like a real jerk off IMO same goes for Childress in Minn.

A columnist I read on a weekly basis offers tips for pools like what we run here.
Looking at my record, he's getting a nice email.
