First of all, I will give you the back story of how this came to be...
On December 16th 2009, I attended my company Christmas party at a fancy steakhouse in downtown Calgary. I admit to getting into the booze a little thick and the majority of my co-workers (with the exception of 5 of them) are originally from Utah, and have degrees from BYU. They are all in the 25 - 33 age range, and are OBSESSED with Twilight. They were saying that it was the greatest work of fiction of ALL TIME. They were all arguing about Jacob vs Edward, and so forth.
Another co-worker told me that she was getting sick & tired of all that Twilight garbage. So I piped up and said "I could write something just as entertaining, and more original" and ended up revising an old, old idea that I had for a novel/story and started to yap about it at the Christmas Party.
This is part of one of the chapters that I have recently completed. Double spaced and properly formatted, it equals to one page.
I couldn’t sleep, every time that I would begin to drift off, I’d be suddenly awakened by visions and memories from the collision. Walker had fallen asleep long before, so I decided to ponder my thoughts on the rooftop of the apartment building. I sat on a heater unit looking out onto the horizon of Marquis City. As it slightly shined an eerily beautiful, yet somewhat ominous red glow. It saddened me to think that beneath the lights, was a city that had become one of the most dangerous to live in. Suddenly, I heard a noise behind me and quickly turned around, breaking my deep train of thought. “I thought you ran out on me Taft” Walker exclaimed as he slowly approached me. “Why would I do that? It’s not like I have nothing to run back to anymore.” I sighed, then continued my blank glaze towards the downtown. “May I?” he asked gesturing with his hands beside me. “Knock yourself out.” I believe were my exact words.
Walker sat down beside me and looked towards the city. I don’t know what overcame me at that moment, but I felt as if I could talk to Walker. That like Marquis City, beneath all of the toughness, and grunge, was something good hiding. “You know Seth, I’ve often wondered, if you knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that tomorrow would be your last day, would you do anything different? I mean, would you buckle up your seatbelt before driving out for the last time? Would you cook breakfast the same way? Would your daily routine change? Would you say ‘Goodbye’ to everyone that you loved, and everyone that loved you?”
I don't want to give too much away yet, but does this sound interesting to you? The novel is a Horror Novel, set in the year 2017 about a series of murders that a cult is perpetrating.
