This will be the official thread to discuss all things related to new and upcoming products from Sideshow, NECA, Mezco, etc.
That said, what is the latest with NECA's cult classic line? When's the new series expected to hit?

Wow......some cool new figures. Can't wait to get Hare Krishna Zombie from 'Dawn of the Dead'. I have already Plaid Zombie and FlyBoy Zombie.
That Castlevania 3" figure looks cool. Convention only exclusive....mf'ers. Shouldn't make anything unless you can make enough for everyone.

Anyone who was in this thread on the other site, I wanted to give you an update. The mask straps on my F13: Final Chapter Jason snapped. At first, I thought they were going to give me a hard time about it, but they're sending me a replacement mask!! :D Pretty jazzed about that. So, I wanted to throw it out there, that I'm pretty happy with their customer service.
The plus side is, I get to keep the broken mask, too. So, I'm setting it up like the end of Final Chapter, where Trish knocks his mask off right before he gets it in the head! I'm a geek, so what.

I looked at my Part 3 figure today, together with Part 2 the only ones I took out of the box.
The strap thats on the mask seems to have grown or something, it's not tight anymore.. so now the mask can't fit on it like its supposed to, and hangs on his head.. :(

The price tag on the up-coming WETA Doctor Who line is bound to be through the roof. WETA puts out good figures, though, so I think I'll have to come up with some cash, stat.

Wow, the Dream Warriors Freddy face just looks...off. I hope the final product ends up looking better, but usually, the opposite is true. Everything else looks great, though.
Jigsaw

I agree that the DW Freddy needs some work, but being that it's just a prototype anything can change for the final product. I have to say I'm very impressed with Mezco's COF figures and they're proving me wrong now. I'd be interested in their take on Saw figures, I could easily see them adding to bathroom set to their Screen Grabs series.

i cant wait to start gettig my hands on the mezco stuff.it looks like cof line is only the newline licence so far and as an avid jason collector that is great .so my mid 2008 we will have jasons from part 1,2,4,6,7,jx,fvsj.all we will need is a part 3,8,5,9,and jx non uber figure.and a 5 wont be hard to customize with a part 4 head and a neca micheals body .ill, use the extra micheal i got from the evil 2pak .man will november ever get here.

if anyone here collects now playing figures make sure you preorder series 4 as for what is being said behind sota doors if they dont get enough preorders series 4 wont see the light of day and insiders have said that no matter how 4 does there will be no series 5.witch i think stinks because i really wanted a herbert west figure as well as a large scale creeper and the tremors box set and thats officially dead but with the licence comming open maybe neca can grab it but with them even scaling back on the horror stuff who knows.you know of all the fan bases go us horror fans get treated the worst hell we cant even get our own channel on tv.

Has anyone gotten any of Mezco's Cinema Of Fear figures from the first series which came out this month? I won't be getting any of them until Christmas but I'm curious as to what they're like from those who own them.
The Dream Master
10-15-2007, 09:59 AM
Jig, I haven't seen those yet, but thanks for the heads up. I didn't know they were supposed to come out this month, so I'll be looking out for those.
Anyone picked up the latest Cult Classics wave? I've only seen Leatherface.

Yup, I noticed the same problem with my Part 3 figure recently!
Has sideshow anounced any new Friday-stuff? It has been months since they released the TFC figure and they havenīt released anything new yet. They popped out new figures every few monthsthe last years ... are there no plans for more F13 toys? Iīd love to see a young-Jason, Roy, JTM and Uber-Jason sideshow-figure before the remake gets released!

Finally a decent Jason from part's 4 & 6. These are going to go great next to my Neca Pamela and Jason's 2,7 & FvsJ. I refused to buy the Sideshow figures as they simply sucked. Very sloppily made and not at all accurate to Jason's apearance. Especially the JGTH one. I buy only quality Jason products :)...
I still wish Neca would make more as they are the best, but these will do.

I'll be getting the first series of COF and some Cult Classics figures for Christmas (damn financial problems). I'm most excited for the JL Jason that's coming out next year, about time we got a JL Jason figure.

Jigsaw
10-15-2007, 11:10 PM
That's pretty cool although I much prefer a more realistic-looking Jason.
For those who own the COF TFC Jason, is the mask removable? I ask because the figure comes with an alternate head, but there's no mention if the mask is removable. It'd be so stupid if his mask wasn't removable.

I just received my two Jigsaw fiures from Big Bad Toy Store (talk about really fast shipping), and I love them. I'm especially digging the normal "John" head figure--the likeness is dead on. They'll lok great alongside my two other Jigsaw figures. I wonder if NECA will ever do an 18" Jigsaw figure?
Jigsaw
10-21-2007, 03:00 AM
An 18" Jigsaw is probably only a matter of time.
The Dream Master
10-21-2007, 03:02 AM
If they come out with one, it'd better have interchangable heads. It's ridiculous that I've paid full price for four figures basically because they have different heads.

What I'd really like to see, however, are some sort of dioramas depicting some of the traps in the films. I'd especially like one that has Amanda's trap from the first film and one of the room with Lawrence and Adam. That'd be awesome.
Jigsaw
10-21-2007, 03:13 AM
I agree. Also a base of Amanda in the Syringe Pit, Obi in the Furnace, Timothy in The Rack, John's brain surgery and autopsy, etc. those would all be awesome to see in action figure form.

10-22-2007, 09:54 PM
COF is out. I picked up the Jason over the weekend, and it's pretty cool. The mask does seem removable, but it kinda feels glued on. I didn't want to take any chances with it.
Jigsaw
10-22-2007, 10:01 PM
Thanks for the information. From the pictures I've seen of the COF Jason, his mask looks like it might be attached to his face, although I can understand your fear of not wanting to damage the figure by removing it. I guess I'll find out myself though when I get the figure for Christmas. I don't see why it wouldn't be removable though.

Jigsaw
02-18-2008, 05:00 AM
I'll be listening for any news. I'm thinking if an Amanda figure isn't announced, a petition might help. Most petitions don't work, but occasionally there's those that do. With Saw still being a bankable series and Amanda having gained her share of popularity alongside Jigsaw, I think enough petition signatures might convince NECA to get on it.

A petition I created earlier for NECA to make figures of Amanda from the Saw films. The chances of it being successful are slim, but it's worth a try. Given how popular and bankable Saw is, now is as good a time as any to try.

I second the Crypt Keeper. He deserves to have an accurate figure of him done at some point. Other figures I want in addition to Amanda and the Crypt Keeper:
-An improved Tall Man (Phantasm II)
-Mike and Reggie (Phantasm II)
-Eric Matthews (Saw II and III)
-MartinFly (The Fly II)

Thanks for the news.
I'm thinking if Mike and Reggie were ever to be made into figures, they'd have to be in a deluxe set with The Tall Man to make it more appealing to the public and collectors alike, since the main villain of the series is needed to make it appealing. In the Halloween set, Dr. Loomis was included with Michael and in the F13 25th Anniversary set, Mrs. Voorhees was included with the Sackhead Jason, and undoubtedly the villains made the set all the more appealing and enticing to consumers. I'm thinking a deluxe set from Phantasm II with Mike and Reggie with their weapons and gear, and a new Tall Man figure (perhaps in a state of melting) could be included with a deluxe embalming room/spacegate room base along with a dwarf figure for a bonus.
I'd also think if Eric Matthews or another Saw character were to be made into a figure, it'd be a boxed set with Jigsaw. I could see Eric being included in a deluxe set with Jigsaw from Saw II in his wheelchair, or Amanda from Saw III with Jigsaw on his deathbed, etc.

i agree with you 100% i would love a boxset like that.but you have to look at it from there point of view a 15 year old kid walks into hot topics and sees that boxset he might know the tallman but reggie i doubt it.right now the way the horror toys are selling companys are sticking with sure bets.and you know who is really killing the hobby?us the collecters.you know how many times i have read on message boards oh that likeness is off im not getting that or bad paint apps.hell i have heard for years people whinning about day of the dead figures.and then when we get bub. his eyes are off or something stupid like that.these figures are lucky to be 7inches tall you cant even see his eyes if your a foot away.if you want the obscure stuff support the lines.if we buy them they will make more.and if buying another killer clown gets me closer to my coveted harry warden figure so be it.dont want the hobby to die buy buy buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jigsaw
02-20-2008, 11:01 AM
I agree on that. Even if the sculpt has some flaws, I'm still happy to get the figure. I wasn't 100% pleased with The Tall Man figure NECA did, but I'm happy to own it and finally have it after so many years of wanting it and waiting for it to get produced. The combat waistbelt inaccuracy on Mezco's upcoming Jason Lives Jason is a bit annoying, but I can live with it and am still highly anticipating the figure, for I've wanted a JL Jason figure for the longest time and will gladly accept what we're getting.
As for a modern day kid knowing of Phantasm's Reggie, you never know, but seeing such a detailed and expansive set with The Tall Man, Mike and Reggie could spark interest from the kid in the films and from there, a new fan is created. It happens a lot.

As much as I hate Jason's look in JGTH, I too look forward to how Mezco will pull it off. I'm most looking forward to the Thomas Hewitt Leatherface in COF Series 3 personally.
I wouldn't mind if Mezco acquired the rights to other Horror licenses like Saw and Phantasm, and even Halloween. Mezco really expands and capitalizes on their licenses and gives the fans figures they've been requesting and wanting for years, and they've given us a series of Freddy, Jason and Leatherface in all of their alternative appearances.

NECA seems to have gotten a little lazy with some of their licenses. Sort of like what happened to McFarlane, who were great at first but have sadly gone downhill badly in recent years.
jasonisking
02-22-2008, 12:18 AM
i would,nt say lazy as much as trying to recoup the money they spent on grindhouse.man are they taking a bath on that one.the grindhouse figures failed big time so there putting mike and machete in cult classics to try and pull even.but sam from trick or treat is gonna do very well when that movie hits.also what do you think about the reanamator tweaked sculpt.combs has finnally signed off on it.so if all goes well we should be seeing him around halloween.
Jigsaw
02-22-2008, 12:23 AM
I think they should give Grindhouse it's own line and save Cult Classics for individual characters instead. McFarlane made the same mistake when they got the Alien and Predator license, having Movie Maniacs Series 6 consist entirely of Alien and Predator figures instead of having it be it's own seperate line-up.

Anyone know if Mezco's Jason from Jason Goes to Hell was even on display at Toy Fair? I find it hard to believe there isn't a single picture floating around of it if it was on display. My only problem with Mezco's figures so far is how 'cheap' they look but they do seem to be getting a fair bit better. Hopefully we can finally get a half-decent non squished head Jason figure from JGTH!

Jigsaw
02-27-2008, 05:42 AM
Thanks for the picture, Jasonisking. The JL Jason looks great and the JGTH one is pretty cool-looking, too.
ChoKo, maybe the lighting in the picture gives the figure the beer gut, or it's the angle. The other pictures of it I've seen look like it has a fairly normal-sized gut.
ChoKo
02-27-2008, 05:58 AM
Oh, I don't mind it anyway. I was just pointing it out. I'll probably pick up the figure regardless.
Jigsaw
02-27-2008, 06:01 AM
Actually, looking at some other pictures and closely examining the chest and abdominal area, he does look like he has a slightly big gut. I think it's more just the broadness of his chest and abdomen rather than a beer gut, though. Pretty much every other Jason figure is like that minus the NECA Part 2 Jason. The JL Jason is an immediate must-buy for me, and I'll pick up the JGTH one as well even though I hate his look in that film. The next COF Jasons should definitely be from JTM and Part 3.

i,m glad you like it.mezco hired new sculpters to take over the line.and rumor has it that series 4 will be super freddy, jason takes manhatten, leatherface from part 3,also we may get 2 jasons in series 4.again its just rumor but its comming from inside mezco.also this is fact series 4 will be seen at comic con.hey are any of you guys going this year.it would be cool to see some of you guys there.
Jigsaw
02-27-2008, 06:06 AM
I wish I could go but I won't be able to :(
COF Series 4 sounds pretty good, except Freddy IMO should be from Freddy's Revenge with alternate razor-gloved and finger hands, alternate normal, Jesse and "brain" heads, removable hat and the baby-faced Demon Dogs. Series 3 already has Freddy from The Dream Child, and it'd be good to do another version of him from a different film instead for Series 4. I also think Roy Burns from ANB is long in need of a good figure.
The Dream Master
02-27-2008, 06:07 AM
Man, I'd dig a Super Freddy figure. I won't be at Comic-Con, but I'll be watching it like a hawk online.
Jigsaw
02-27-2008, 06:08 AM
I'd like a Super Freddy figure, too, but I'd rather get Nightmare 2 and 3 Freddy first, then Super Freddy. After that, a New Nightmare Freddy would be good.
The Dream Master
02-27-2008, 06:11 AM
Yeah, a Nightmare 2 Freddy would be nice. If we got that, I wouldn't really die if we never got a Dream Warriors version because they'd be similar enough, I think. Besides, we've got Freddy in the tux, which is from Dream Warriors.
I've already got both of NECA's New Nightmare figures, so I'm good when it comes to that film. Of course, I'll buy anything Mezco puts out anyway.
Jigsaw
02-27-2008, 06:16 AM
I'm thinking a regular DW Freddy could come with the Freddy Puppet, alterhand syringe finger hands, the little girl's burnt skeleton, the television set with Freddy's head and arms on it, the doll he tosses, and alternate limbs with the holy water's damage to him.
The Dream Master
02-27-2008, 06:17 AM
Don't get me wrong: that'd be bad-ass and I'd buy it in a second. :)
Jigsaw
02-27-2008, 06:20 AM
I would, too.
With Jason, there's limitless figure opportunities with his drastically changing appearance throughout the series. Freddy to a lesser degree, but there's much that can be done. With Leatherface though there's relatively little. For another two or three line-ups they can do more Leatherfaces, but after that, TCM figures would mainly be the family members.
The Dream Master
02-27-2008, 06:21 AM
Mezco seems to be really hung up on Leatherface. I wonder if they'll produce any figures from TCM: TNG :X.
Jigsaw
02-27-2008, 06:24 AM
The ONLY TNG figure I'd be interested in is Vilmer. He was the ONLY good thing about that film, IMO.
I wouldn't mind if Mezco eventually got the licenses for Saw, Phantasm and Halloween at some point down the line. At the moment, NECA seems fixated on a lot of mainstream properties, and Mezco goes all-out with the licenses they get. I'd be thrilled to see Mezco produce figures from these three licenses for COF.
The Dream Master
02-27-2008, 06:25 AM
I'm not going to lie. I'd buy a Vilmer figure too.
NECA does have alot on their plate now. It seems like they used to focus exclusively on the big horror franchises, but they do so much now that I wouldn't mind if Mezco got a hold of some of them.
Jigsaw
02-27-2008, 06:27 AM
Mezco goes all-out with the accessories, articulation, interchangable parts, varying appearances, etc. and I'd trust them with other Horror licenses. And although some people critque the cartoonish appearances, they look a lot more realistic and "gritty" in person, the online pictures don't do them justice. The only COF figure IMO that really has a cartoonish look is the Series 1 Leatherface, but the rest look pretty realistic.
The Dream Master
02-27-2008, 06:28 AM
I kind of have reservations about their Nightmare 1 Freddy, but I think it'll look alot better in person.
I've been very pleased with their output so far. I've bought everything related to the COF line except for the plush dolls.
Jigsaw
02-27-2008, 06:30 AM
Their Jason figures have a very realistic look to them. I don't doubt the Nightmare 1Freddy will look better in person than in the pictures. The only gripe I have with the JL Jason figure is the inaccuracy of the combat waistbelt, it only has the dart pouch and not the sheaths for the machete and survival knife. I also would've liked for the JL Jason to have had an alternate right hand with a Devil Dart positioned to throw.
The Dream Master
02-27-2008, 06:31 AM
The only thing I don't like about alternate limbs is the fact that I'm tempted to buy two of a figure so I can pose them either way.
Jigsaw
02-27-2008, 06:32 AM
I see what you mean. They did that with the Nightmare 1 Freddy on display.
I like that Mezco really branches out with their licenses instead of making one or two figures based on a popular license and that's it. McFarlane got lazy that way, and sadly it looks like NECA is slowly but surely going that route, too.
jasonisking
02-27-2008, 06:42 AM

Jasonisking, check out our General Horror forum. You'll find a bunch of us over there that love slasher flicks as well. We've got dozens of threads devoted to 'em. :)
Jig, yeah, Sideshow can be pricey, that's for sure. Their figures are difficult to find on the after-market, but alot of their horror figures are easier to buy directly from them because they don't sell out too terribly fast. Compared to a franchise like Star Wars (where a figure just sold out last week in eight minutes), their House of Horror stuff was alot less pressure packed. Hell, the Dream Warriors Freddy (which was a comic con exclusive) stayed up for days, if not weeks before it sold out.
Jigsaw
02-27-2008, 07:14 AM
There's a bunch of Sideshow Horror figures I'd love to get. A lot of them often come with exclusive accessories, which must be next to impossible to get as I'm sure most of the figures with the exclusive accessories have long sold out by now.
The Dream Master
02-27-2008, 07:16 AM
Yeah, the exclusives will likely be very difficult to find at a reasonable price. I'm not sure what the regular editions go for, but I'm sure they vary depending on the figure. I got into them early enough to where I only missed two exclusives: the two FvJ figures. I got the regular editions though, and I've been hooked ever since.

Going by the first picture JGTH Jason seems less "stylized" than the Final Chapter and Jason Lives figures. Not that they were not realistic but the sculpting seems to have improved vastly. Is that the case or am I just getting my hopes up? I really hope they got it right as I've been wanting a good JGTH figure for a long time and given how bad Sideshow messed up on final product on theirs.

I hope they don't cut down on the articulation too much. I like how COF Series 1 had both accurate sculpting and plenty of articulation and accessories. We got the best of both worlds with COF Series 2 and I hope Mezco continues it.
jasonisking
02-29-2008, 03:53 AM
the articulation there doin away with is is the hand and knees.people complained about the ugly hands and some of the knee articulation was loose and causing figures to not be able to stand.on a side note i got my 12 inch resin uber jason today i put him on a sideshow stand and he looks great next to them.now i have mommy to uber in 12inch format.i got him for 100 bones from gremlinz.com

I guess I can live without leg/knee articulation, but at the same time it limits the postures you can give the figure :meh: But as long as there's decent enough articulation with the rest of the figure I'm fine.

I thought Saw IV was decent, I liked it much better than Saw III but not nearly as much as the first two. I hated that Eric Matthews got killed off, but at least he had a spectacular finish. As for the end and what happens to Strahm, he probably gets saved by police that arrive on the scene. On the Unrated DVD, a new scene of him calling for back-up as he enters the meat plant was added in.
As for me, well, I'll be 21 in June and there's nothing particularly remarkable about me. I'm a normal guy with ambitions to write and direct films, and I'm a huge fan of movies, music, games, books, etc. anything that entertains.

the one thing i suggest if your gonna direct watch alot of hitchcock and carpenter films.most modern directors just dont understand true suspence.its scarier to watch a killer stalk someone from the shadows then showing some cool gore scene.dont get caught up with everything you can put on film the more you leave to the imagination the scarier it is.halloween did,nt have a drop of blood in it but it scared the hell out of people.also read up on human psycology.the more you know how people tick the more you can use that to effect them when there watching your films.
Jigsaw
02-29-2008, 06:51 AM
I do a lot of research and reading on that, and definitely hope to have an emphasis on suspense and mood rather than the gore and effects. It's always good to have a balance of all of that, but if helps more to emphasize the suspense.

tarman is comming.the company that owns the rights to rotld has optioned the toy rights.but there not saying to who.my guess is either neca has it or amok times.but my guess is we will be seeing some kind of proto of him at comiccon.

Jigsaw

Thanks for the new pictures, the new sculpt/paint looks much better now.
Fulci's Zombie has been a cult film for years and the cover zombie is fairly iconic and well-known to Horror fans. I often see Zombie T-shirts in Hot Topic stores. Hopefully we'll get a figure of the cover zombie one day.
jasonisking
03-30-2008, 12:49 AM
i totally agree its iconic but the bad part is the guys ordering at the retail level no shit about horror.and there are way to many nitpicker toy collectors who would let fulci,s zombie pegwarm so they could by there 100th batman toy.
Jigsaw
03-30-2008, 12:55 AM
That's why toy lines like Cult Classics and Now Playing are primarily sold at novelty shops and comic shops as opposed to general toy stores or retail outlets, since those shops cater to collectors interested in Horror memorbilia and merchandise.
jasonisking
03-30-2008, 02:19 AM
thats what it has come down to.believe it or not that is why these lines are getting harder and harder to sell.the loss of mediaplay was huge.thats why jerry macalusso sold sota.he said it was just to stressfull trying to get retailers to by the figures.and in a recent q and a with randy at neca he said they could,nt release a fig like bubba hotep now.alot depends on sota right now if they can do well with np 4 we may still see some real cult figs get made but if it flops were in trouble.but cinama of fear is selling like crazy so we will see alot more jason,s and freddys

Anyone know anything about the new Cult Classics 2 Michael Myers with sheet and glasses?
Jigsaw
03-30-2008, 05:21 AM
The Michael Myers with the ghost sheet is part of Cult Classics Hall Of Fame Series 3, and he's set to come out sometime in April along with Cinema Of Fear Series 2.
JIK, that's a such a shame. Horror has such a huge fanbase, but the losses of stores like Media Play and Tower Records has affected the sales in a huge way, and only mainstream properties like F13, Halloween, NOES, TCM, Saw, etc. are marketable now. Very sad, but I hope they can recover.

jasonisking
04-01-2008, 11:08 PM
i wish.no jason takes manhatten and yes tommy jarvis.series 4 should consist of jason tm ,leatherface from 3,superfreddy,and tommy jarvis again tommy depends on how well nancy does.remember guys mezco only has the newline licence and can only do f-13,tcm,and nightmare figures.they have not ventured into picking up any other movies.right now the only guaranteed money licence in horror are the 3 icons.mezco will milk it and if they make enough jack off of it they may persue others.but not until cof get to series 7 or 8.
ADDED:
het guys just got a bad email from jerry maculusso.now playing 4 is just about dead.jerry found out they have,nt even been tooled yet.and the release date was this month so the line is pretty much dead.the only good news jerry said was that neca will definatly pick up awil and leprachaun.and since his company is going gangbusters he plans on swiping up the reanamator.but as for the others like killer klowns and tremmors i dought we will ever see these.damned sota

Jigsaw
04-02-2008, 07:38 AM
COF = Cinema Of Fear.
Currently, NECA appears to still have the Child's Play license and Mezco has the license for NOES as well as F13 and TCM. As for the Leprechaun, SOTA had the license for that, but it seems SOTA's Now Playing line-up might be defunct and someone else may instead produce the Leprechaun.

Awesome, thanks for the clarification. JTM Jason has long been in need of an action figure and it's great to hear it'll finally happen. COF4 sounds pretty good.
JIK, earlier in this thread you said that NECA was taking a bath with the Grindhouse license, and you weren't kidding; Cult Classics Series 7 and 8 will both have Grindhouse figures (CC7 Machete, CC8 Stuntman Mike). On NECA's latest Q&A on their MySpace, they said no further Grindhouse figures were planned, but I wouldn't be surprised if they make more. They seem to be milking the license for all it's worth, which isn't a bad thing, but IMO it would be better to give certain licenses their own line-ups.

tommy will be the child version.they are altering the goonies sculpt of cory feldman as this will be a very cost effective way of putting him out.there is alot of risk with good guy figures.and this is a good way to test the market.it also looks like if sota finnaly gives up on now playing.there is a good chance we will still see the release of some of there figures.neca has expressed an interest in the tremmors and leprachaun licences.and jerry macalusso wants the reanimator licence and amoktimes has stated they would be very interested in the killer klown licence.also it looks like amoktimes will be releasing the tarman .i really thought neca would be doing him but amoktimes seems to be willing to do figures that neca wont touch.i emailed david over there and he really surprised me.i asked him about the fulci zombie for you jiggy and he said if they can figure out the licencing with europe they are going to try and do him.i stand corrected jigsaw.there also seems to be an issue with who owns the rights to the howling.cause if they can figure it out they would like to do a box set of the wolf and eddy quest.man you just got to love these new guys.
