Okay, fellow drummers. Here's where you can sit back and talk drums. What type of set you play, how long you've been playing, who inspires you, etc... (Marching band drummers also welcome, if there's any.)

Me, I've been playing for only three years. My friend got me into Metallica which in turn got me into drumming. Got myself a cheap-o set for Christmas two years ago, and I'm currently saving up for a TAMA Imperialstar. I like to keep the layout simple; not to many cymbals, and for right now I'm happy with a single kick. I'll try to get a pic up sometime. I've been updating the set I have for a while. Got Remo heads on all the drums, replaced the crash and Hi-Hat with Sabien B8s. 16 inches on the crash, 13 on the Hi-Hats. Also a nice TAMA bass pedal and some new stands. So far I'm content but hopefully it won't be to much longer before I get the new set. This thing has taken a lot of punishment the past two years.

How about the rest of you? What have you got?

Well!
I'm sort of inbetween sets at the moment. As priceworthy as my old teenage set, pearl export(lots of drums. I never use all of it these days.) it still leaves alot to wish for soundwise. So I'm only using that because I'm waiting for a yamaha maple custom absolute noveau to get here.

I wasn't looking for new drums but then a friend(who is a backline technician) forced me down behind these new babies and it was love at first sight. Noveau feels more in line with how I want to sound. Atleast at the moment. So I sold my dear old(and battered) Tama maple starclassic(piano black).

Keeping the setup pretty simple. 10, 12, 14 and 16" for toms. I'll probably rarely use 2 floortoms or the 16" but it still fels nice to know that you have something bigger when called for. Going with 22" for the bassdrum since I never really felt I needed anything else(Hint: I don't do many jazzgigs.) ;)
I kept my starclassic snare(5 1/2" x 14") since I love it so much and I'm getting a(6 1/2" x 14") with the new set.

I use a variety of cymbals depending on what type of gig I'm playing. I never "got" why you should only go with one brand. I'll buy whatever sounds best regardless of who made it.

I only use a single pedal. I used to spend hours learning double in my teens but these days I can never motivate why I should spend any time whatsoever keeping that going when there's never room to actually use them(I don't play metal). The only times I've ever found it usefull is
A/
Playing house music alongside a dj.
and B/
Covering some newer computer generated R&B stuff.

As for inspirations there are too many to name. Keith Carlock would be the hottest stuff right now. He really redefines what groove is all about.

but how about anything else. I mean anything: guitar,
;)

Anyway, I was thinking about getting drumming lessons. Any advice from those who play?
