View Full Version : Freddy's Downtime

I was on my way to work today and began to think of the micronap sequence in the Remake with Nancy in the drugstore. I started wondering why Freddy was there right away. Was he patiently waiting for her to start dreaming again, and was there the entire time.
I thought to myself about the orginal series, how he wasn't always right there when people slipped off into sleep, but people would walk around for a minute or two before he popped out.
This got me thinking... not everyone sleeps during the day, there was a good 10 year gap (atleast) in between his death and starting to envade nightmares (that we know of.)
So what does Freddy do when we're not dreaming? He doesn't just wait around in the dream world until you fall asleep, but you fall asleep and once you start to dream, he then senses you and finds you. So what does he do when there's no one to kill? You can post silly ideas, or serious well thought out ideas... but what does Freddy do in his downtime? Discuss.

Well he exists in the netherworld or in our minds, so there might not be a concept of time there. 1 year to us might be like 1 minute to him. And as for when he takes a couple minutes to pop in dreams, I always thought he was omnipresent in nightmares, and was there the whole time. He lets some tension build before he reveals himself, like a cat and mouse game.
As for what he does in his down time: Lets assume he does have down time (as opposed to our year is his minute). I don't know. Tortures the captured souls he has, relives some of his kills, watches what people do when they are awake maybe. Although he can't affect people that are aware, maybe he is able to watch them or hear their thoughts.
On a side note, I always wondered what Jason does in his down time too. I won't get too deep into it as that would be a whole another thread.

I was thinking maybe Freddy cuts off his fingers and amuses himself that way? Not all the time. But just one thing that comes to mind.

I've always imagined that Ol' Fred would be jerkin' it to the townsfolk's wet dreams. :X
He tortures the souls of the children of Elm Street that he has killed.

I wonder if he pokes at his own chest torturing the souls? Maybe let them loose just so he can catch them again. It's not like they could just wake up like they used to.

I thought when he was put down, in Dream Warriors on up, the souls of his victims were released. Thus severely diminishing his power. In his downtime, between defeats, he's in some cold, dark place licking his wounds so to speak. Putting himself back together, and recharging the batteries so speak. Until the Dream Stalker can once again plague the children of Springwood.

There's nothing indicating that Krueger lost the souls of the children he'd killed except for in 4 and 6 (and 5... which he didn't have to begin with because he gave them to Jacob). If you look at the death in 4, it's obvious that there are more kids ripping Freddy apart than he had murdered since he'd been resurrected in that film.
If you're wondering why I'm not participating in this thread it's because I'm contractually obligated not to. My thoughts on the matter are intellectual property (and not mine).

Right. And is why in the fifth film, he looks so rail thin upon his resurrection. Unless there's a story behind that that I'm unaware of.
As to what he does, I think it's along the lines of what he does in "Freddy's Nightmares". Sits down somewhere and watches the real world, waiting for some poor kid to fall asleep so that he can swoop in for the kill.

Yeah I think the dream world to him is just as real as our world is to us and even if nobody is dreaming it's still there so he just waits around for someone to dream

I wonder if the dream world is the real world for Freddy Krueger, does he chill with other dream demons?
Just imagine Freddy sitting at a bar with some other dream freaks.. pretty funny.

Yep. There's a story. :)
It doesn't have anything to do with Freddy not having any souls any longer. They were going for Freddy growing from a baby into an adult rapidly. The sequence was meant to be his "rebirth". The concept art for the "rail thin" Freddy you mention was labelled "Teen Freddy".

In issue 2 of the 2-issue Marvel comic, they had exactly that. I think maybe it was supposed to be spoofing that cantena scene from "Star Wars".

Huh, I always wondered about that and just assumed it was due to the soul loss. But then it didn't make sense during the rest of the film.

Could you elaborate? Were you involved with an official production?

Newbie's first post is challenging Tally? Good stuff.
I think, in Freddy's down time, he listens to Dokken and eat meatball pizza. :D
