I'm interested to check this show out. I watched a couple of episodes of Dead Like Me, so this could be interesting.
From SyFy Portal (http://www.syfyportal.com/news423997.html):
"Pushing Daisies," will debut in the time slot "Lost" originally premiered in, according to ABC Television president Stephen McPherson.
McPherson told reporters that the upcoming "forensic fairy tale" series is so quirky there isn't a lead-in show that would work for it.
"It's always challenging for new shows to find an audience, but I think its originality and the fact that it is different the way 'Lost' was when 'Lost' launched at 8 o'clock," McPherson said in a news conference last month. "I think it is a show that, you know, doesn't fit neatly behind any other show."
Originally conceived by creator Brian Fuller as a spin-off of "Dead Like Me," "Pushing Daisies" is the story of Ned (Lee Pace of "Wonderfalls"), who can bring people back from the dead by touching them, but only for one minute. Then he touches them again, and they go back to being dead. If he doesn't, they get to live, but a completely random person will die in their place.
The story is part romance, as Ned brings his childhood sweetheart back to life but can never touch her again or else she'll die. It's also part procedural as Ned works with a private investigator by using his powers to ask murder victims who killed them.
"To me, it's a family show," McPherson said. "I mean, the magical side of it, even the gore, if you will, of somebody being dead is going to be played like it is in the pilot, never in any way gratuitous and in fact humorous 99 percent of the time. So, for us, we feel like it actually is a good anchor to that night."
"I don't think that you can look at death without looking at life because it's kind of the punctuation to it," said Fuller, when addressing whether the show was too morbid for family fare. "So I think there's something very magical and mystical about death, and I would say I'm much more of a magical and mystical person than a morbid person, because I love that sense of awe and spirituality of there's something greater out there that we don't know and we're not qualified to know and we won't know on this plane of existence."
"Pushing Daisies" premieres October 3 and will air each Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.

I just finished watching both seasons of Dead Like Me and thought it was really good. It was one of the most original shows I've seen. If this show is anything like Dead Like Me I should enjoy it. I do know that it won't have as much cussing as Dead Like Me :D.

I've been asking around, and, so far, only two people I know actually watched this. I hope this isn't indicative of the general viewing audience.
Anyway, I'd have to say that Anna Friel (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0925266/Ss/0925266/203r_pre.jpg.html?hint=nm0295484) is quite a revelation--she pretty much stole the first episode, in my opinion.

I watched the first three episodes, and thus far I really enjoyed it. Of course, with the ratings in steady decline (13 million for episode 1, 10 million for episode 2, and 9 million for episode 3) I'm not holding my breath that ABC will keep it around, but I really dig it. The show is like Tim Burton meets Bryan Fuller, and I think the combination works beautifully.
Hope it doesn't get canceled.

That's disheartening news about the number of viewers going down. I just take solace in the fact that it's not on Fox; otherwise, it probably would have already been canned in favort of Man vs. Beast: Wife Swap, or whatever the fuck kind of shit they show on Fox nowadays.

This hasn't been a good season for genre television. Journeyman, Heroes, Pushing Daisies, Bionic Woman and Flash Gordon have all been getting mediocre-to-bad ratings. :( Which sucks, because at least Heroes and Pushing Daises have been really good.

I don't know how it's been holding up compared to it's competition, but its ratings are in steady decline. If they continue to drop, the show will be gone by mid-season (I do recall reading that last week's episode came in third after a reality show and a game show.)

That's the same reason I tend not to watch television. Whenever I decide to watch a show from the beginning -- Surface, Carnivale, Raines -- they all seem to die quickly.
While I admit that the last couple of years have been good for me -- I've watched Doctor Who, Eureka, Heroes and My Name is Earl from the beginning, and all of them continue to thrive -- it does seem like the 2007/2008 season is going decidedly less well. :(

The last show I watched religiously was MST3K, and that ended damn near 10 years ago.
And it ended without good cause. The show cost SCI-FI pennies to produce. Sometimes, I think Bonnie Hammer must be completely out of her mind.
Although, to be fair, I think Pushing Daisies would stand a better chance on SCI-FI or USA than on ABC. The concept is just too odd to pull in a mainstream audience, but I think it would comfortably fit on a cable network.

'Pushing Daisies' Grabs Series-Low Ratings (http://www.syfyportal.com/news424381.html)
Blame it on Halloween if you like, which probably isn't a stretch since many shows posted lower-than-normal ratings Wednesday night.
"Pushing Daisies" was not immune to the walk of the dead (or children dressed as the dead), as its ratings belonged six feet under earning a 5.7 rating/10 share according to Fast National ratings from Nielsen Media Research. That is the lowest rating the show has received since its premiere, but still won the 8 p.m. ET time slot over "Kid Nation" on CBS and "Phenomenon" on NBC.
Many networks opted to show reruns for what is historically a bad night leading into November sweeps. NBC, for instance, decided to show two hours of its illusionist competition "Phenomenon" instead of airing an episode of "Bionic Woman."

SyFy Portal points out that Pushing Daisies (http://www.syfyportal.com/pagetogether.php?id=4395&page=1) will probably survive the strike.
One show that may survive it all, despite a loss in momentum? The quirky "Pushing Daisies" on ABC. The show has such a strong "cute" factor, that it sticks in the minds of its audience, and should have little trouble maintaining its core viewership.

Despite the fact that Pushing Daisies has gotten a full season order, the 9th episode will likely be the season finale, unless the strike clears up soon. Bryan Fuller did a last minute tweak to make it work as a finale (http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB119424475401682362-Z7_aRsw6Lmg8HD2xitEfl7ofigE_20071206.html?mod=tff_ main_tff_top).
On the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, meanwhile, ABC's new series "Pushing Daisies" is still in production, shooting its eighth episode, according to executive producer Dan Jinks. A person close to the show said that at least some Teamsters reported for work on the show.
"We were all here at 7 a.m. this morning and everything is going very well," he said, standing outside a soundstage where star Kristin Chenoweth was shooting a scene. Shooting for that episode could keep the show in production until next week. Mr. Jinks said that he had received a final draft of the show's ninth episode from creator Bryan Fuller and the show's other writers before midnight Sunday, and he expects to begin shooting it this week. That would keep the show in production until Thanksgiving, he said.

'Pushing Daisies' Up For WGA, Golden Globes (http://www.syfyportal.com/news424538.html)
When it comes to considering shows for awards, "Pushing Daisies" doesn't need the touch of its star to make sure it's not dead.
The ABC series is up for both Golden Globe and Writers Guild of America awards in nomination lists announced Thursday, furthering the knowledge that "Pushing Daisies" remains a critic and industry favorite.
"Pushing Daisies" is up for best musical or comedy series from the Golden Globes against "Entourage" and "Extras" from HBO as well as "30 Rock" on NBC and David Duchovny's series "Californication" on Showtime.
Anna Friel, who plays Chuck in the series, is up for best actress in a musical or comedy, while Lee Pace (Ned) is gunning for lead actor in the same awards division. Friel will face Christina Applegate from "Samantha Who?," America Ferrera from "Ugly Betty," Tina Fey from "30 Rock" and Mary-Louise Parker from "Weeds." Pace is up against Alec Baldwin from "30 Rock," Steve Carell from "The Office," David Duchovny from "Californication," and Rick Gervais from "Exrtras."
Michael C. Hall, the star of "Dexter" on Showtime, is up for lead actor in a drama against Jon Hamm from "Mad Men," Hugh Laurie from "House," Jonathan Rhys Meyers from "The Tudors," and Bill Paxton from "Big Love."
"Dexter" also is up for best dramatic series from the WGA against "Friday Night Lights" on NBC, "Mad Men" on AMC, and two HBO series: "The Sopranos" and "The Wire."

"Pushing Daisies" is up for new series against "Damages" on FX, "Flight of the Conchords" on HBO, "Mad Men" and "The Sarah Silverman Program" on Comedy Central.
Damon Lindelof and Drew Goddard are being recognized for their "Lost" episode "Flashes Before Your Eyes," gunning up episodes from "The Wire," "The Sopranos," "The Closer," and "The Dark Defender" episode from "Dexter" that was written by Tim Schlattmann.
Bryan Fuller has a nod in the comedy department for his pilot episode of "Pushing Daisies" called "Pie-lette," and he will face three episodes from "The Office" as well as "30 Rock" and "Flight of the Conchords."
The SciFi Channel miniseries "The Lost Room" is up for long form television, facing off against "Pandemic" on the Hallmark Channel.

Well, I've just watched the last episode of Pushing Daisies. Good stuff. I was really surprised by the revelation at the end. I suppose that Chuck forgiving Ned so quickly was probably part of the rewrites to make it seem less open-ended.

It sucks it won't be coming back in the spring, but I'm really glad it'll be back in the fall:
‘Pushing Daisies’ Gets A Push From Strike (http://www.syfyportal.com/news424795.html)
The writers strike was a nightmare for viewers. For a few months there was nothing to watch but reality TV, reruns and fresh episodes of shows that the network held as late as they could.
New shows for the fall seemed to appear and disappear to fast to really build up an audience. The big surprise though is that the strike might actually have been a good thing for some newcomer shows, especially ABC’s Golden Globe-nominated "Pushing Daisies."
Before ending, "Pushing Daisies" was severely falling behind in the schedule and going way over budget.
"We needed a longer post- production time than we initially anticipated," creator and executive producer Bryan Fuller told Variety. "We were bumping against air dates, and were hemorrhaging money to pay for accelerated post production costs."
But the hiatus has now giving producers time to polish things up. So, instead of trying a relaunch "Pushing Daisies" and other shows this spring, the networks have decided to hold off and start fresh next fall.
"This was the best possible result," Fuller said. "We look at this year's nine episodes as a teaser season. It's a huge risk, but then it falls in the network's hands to really support the show and relaunch it. They made such a spectacular investment in the show creatively that I have every confidence they'll continue to stand behind us."
So, more time to polish scripts and get productions in order with a fresh fall start to rebuild the fan base. Is there a bad side here? Well, there is if you are one of the crew members. Those crews that have been out of work because of the strike are now going to be out of work even longer, forcing many to find new jobs.
"It's one of the unfortunate realities of the strike," says Fuller who sees this as "frustrating and disappointing."
The final pre-strike episode had a doozy of a cliffhanger that revealed that Charlotte Charles’s (Anna Friel) aunt Lily (Swoosie Kurtz) is actually her mother. Fuller made sure to throw it in the episode, in case it ended up being the season finale. Now what was once going to be resolved midway through Season 1 is now going to define the next season’s direction and Fuller couldn’t be happier.
"The time off during the break allowed me to rethink where we were going and flush out a more dramatic story," Fuller said. "It came out of a realization that if that's our cliffhanger, it couldn't go the direction it was going. Now it will have a much broader impact on the characters and the series. It's much richer than the original plan."
Unfortunately, the shortened season does confuse things for some bubble shows, like "Moonlight" and "Reaper." Because of this unusual season, there is no way of knowing how long it will be until their fate is finally announced.

Expect A Harder Dramedy In New 'Pushing Daisies' (http://www.syfyportal.com/news424823.html)
It’s weird, wacky and almost a twisted fairy tale, but in Season 2, "Pushing Daisies" will be "harder and a little more aggressive" than the freshman year.
When the first season wrapped up as a result of the writers strike, only nine episodes had been produced and shown to ABC viewers and like a great many other shows, the final episode was slightly re-tooled to act as a season finale ... cliffhangers and all.
"We've come up with some really exciting things in just a week,” Fuller said, according to SciFi Wire. “And we're all sort of chomping at the bit, and I've started writing the first episode, and we've got the first five episodes approved by the network."
In the makeshift finale, it was revealed to viewers that Chuck’s (Anna Friel) biological mother is actually her Aunt Lily (Swoosie Kurtz), who just so happens to believe Chuck to be deceased. However, that may change in season two ... particularly when Chuck learns the truth of her paternity.
“Chuck will definitely find out who her real mother is,” Fuller added. “And it's going to be interesting to see how she reacts to that information and how the Piemaker [Lee Pace] tries to control her trajectory and how that will complicate their relationship. And it's some nice surprises."
The final episodes also touched on the family of Private Investigator Emerson Cod (Chi McBride), which will also be explored next season. And if the scheduling is right, Raúl Esparza who played the love interest for Olive Snook (Kristen Chenoweth) will be back.
Also -- in what is a nice surprise to fans of the “dramedy” series -- a full soundtrack will be released and will include the enchanted musical score by James Dooley as well as a few original songs by cast members Ellen Green (Aunt Vivian) and Chenoweth.
I'm really glad a soundtrack CD is coming out. The score for Pushing Daisies was really good.

The newest episode got the poorest ratings of an episode thus far aired -- 5.55 million -- but that could turn around. If They continue to fall over the next couple of weeks, we're liable to be in trouble. The last show that I enjoyed that got down to around 5 million viewers was Raines, and it was canceled pretty quickly. :(
As for why it's getting lower ratings -- I think quirky shows have trouble catching on with a mainstream audience. The ratings for the first season fluctuated greatly between episodes, so it may yet pick back up. On the bright side, it was number 4 in its time slot, so that's good.

I'm so disappointed with how the show is preforming in the ratings. :(

So, I'm reading that this show is pretty much gone. :( Damn that writers strike. This show had some high numbers before the strike hit, and now it can't seam to regain it's audience. Haven't felt a blow like this since "My So Called Life" back in the 90s. Although, "Pushing Daisies" hasn't been offically cancelled, from countless boards and websites...the writing's on the wall. :( Someone hold me!

The writing has been on the wall for a long time. The viewing figures (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Pushing_Daisies_episodes#U.S._Nielsen_rati ngs) were in steady decline well before the writer's strike (the premiere had over 10 million viewers, the season finale had just under 7 million). If anything, the strike bought us an extra spate of episodes before the axe finally fell.
It hasn't been doing any better in the UK. The season premiere had over 6 million viewers, and the final episode to air had 400,000.

Amazon.com has just put up a pre-order entry (http://www.amazon.com/Pushing-Daisies-James-Dooley/dp/B001G9LVMA/ref=pd_bbs_sr_5?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1226757187&sr=8-5) for the Pushing Daisies soundtrack, which is due out on December 9th.
I'm really looking forward to this, as there's been rumors about the disc's impending release for ages, and it's supposed to have the musical numbers from the first season on it.
Doing a bit more digging, I've found an IGN article about it.
Pushing Daisies Soundtrack in the Works (http://music.ign.com/articles/929/929549p1.html)
November 12, 2008 - At an event for his acclaimed show Pushing Daisies this week, creator/executive producer Bryan Fuller discussed the show's upcoming soundtrack album. Fuller revealed that the soundtrack will be released on December 9th.
Besides portions of the whimsical score by James Dooley, Fuller also said they hoped to include several full length versions of songs performed on the show. Pushing Daisies' cast includes musical theater veterans Kristen Chenoweth (Wicked) and Ellen Greene (Little Shop of Horrors), and both have sung on the series, including Chenoweth's performance of "Hopelessly Devoted" from Grease, and a duet the two women performed of the They Might Be Giants song "Birdhouse in Your Soul.
One problem is that Chenoweth has a recording contract with another record label. Fuller said they were currently in negotiations with her label in order to get permission for her to be included on the Daisies soundtrack. He also noted that the current second season of the series has more upcoming songs performed by cast members, including covers of songs by The Bangles and Lionel Richie, which also are likely to be part of the album.
Totally awesome.

ABC appears to have pulled out its big ax this time as according to this article (http://news.yahoo.com/s/eonline/20081121/en_top_eo/69940), Pushing Daisies appears to have been cancelled, along with Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money.

That's a goddamn shame. Best new series in 2007/2008, so of course it was doomed to fail.

Well I came here to find out if the last episode I saw of "Pushing Daisies" (which was whatever was last aired) was really the last episode or if it would be coming back for a handful of more episodes. Guess not. :/
Does anyone know if the last episode was the one where the narrator proclaimed in his wonderfully British voice, "Aw, hell no!"? I can't really remember what happened in the final episode since they haven't been on again since first broadcast.

Well shit. I just get my cable back so I can watch this and it's fucking canceled. Just great.

Apparently, there are episodes yet to air (http://tv.ign.com/articles/978/978224p1.html).
While it was beloved by many, the ratings for this expensive series were down in Season 2, leading to its cancellation. ABC will air the final episodes this summer.
Hope the summer episodes give the show a good conclusion.
ADDED:
There are 3 episodes left, which will air at the end of May and beginning of June.
2x11 - Window Dressed to Kill (5/30/09)
2x12 - Water and Power (6/06/09)
2x13 - Kerplunk (6/13/09)

Man. Today I had the opportunity to either see "The Dark Knight" finally or to see the finale of "Pushing Daisies." I saw the latter. And I made the right decision.
They were on fire for this final episode. Hysterical lines abounded, mostly from Emerson Cod. "Sleeping with your sister's husband is always a welcome stop on the Motive Turnpike."
I can't praise this finale enough. If you missed it, I pity you, fool.
And I don't care how old she is-- I would still totally wreck Ellen Greene.

I've got nearly the entirety of season 2 on the DV-R box. I'm going to have a quiet marathon sometime this week.
Hope that finale brings some kind of closure to the storyline.
