I am now officially done with critical theory forever and ever and ever! Turned in the term paper, took the Unit Four post test, and did my discussion today, and that's the end. Were I not already exhausted from work, I'd go out and celebrate. As it stands, consider this thread my way of getting shitfaced and hitting on your sister. Or your mom. Whatever.

If you want to get shitfaced, you can come sniff my BO. I've been exercising nonstop for the last five days, and I've not had a shower yet. :X It's on my list.

Congratulations, Blakey. You're one step closer to done with school. :)

I don't even want to discuss BO. When I got in tonight I smelled like ass cubed.

Thanks for the grats...by this time next year I should be teaching it instead of learning it, w00t.

Congrats, Blake. If need be, I will make out with you to celebrate. I'll grab a drink, grab a glass. And after that I'll grab yo' ass.

Congrats, my fellow English major. Critical theory is indeed a bitch that I somehow managed to avoid during grad school (for the most part--it kept popping up in just about every class--you know how it is).

By the way, is there any better feeling in the world than finishing a term paper? I don't think there is.

Finishing a 16 minute, non-stop stint on the exercise bike feels pretty good. :D

But then what would you know about that, Mr. Wii Boxer? :box: :p

Congrats on being officially the smartest person here. Actually, I think there's something growing on the bottom of my coffee cup that's more intelligent than the majority of the internet :side:

Of course, you realise the smart kids always get the biggest wedgies don't you?

Just Jeans

Blake's probably the only smart kid who might possibly be carrying a .357 Magnum on his person on any given day. Do you want to be the one to give him a wedgie? :p

On second thoughts, Linderman can give him the wedgie. I'll fetch the mop and call the ambulance :D

Violent VictiM

I'll give him the wedgie. I'm gonna do it all Sam Fisher like, so by the time he realizes his underwear is wedged up his ass, I'm gonna be Casper.

Hehe, thanks for the well-wishes, guys. This only puts be about 1/3 of the way done with my Master's degree, but it's like a big weight has been lifted. I was able to get comparative literature and critical theory out of the way early, and now I get to have some fun with electives - a little later on I'll be taking American film, so that'll be fun.

And it's usually a .40 S&W, though sometimes when I'm feeling froggy I do carry the .357. ;)

I used to do a bit of work on an exercise-bike type thing, and I do admit it was a great feeling. And my arms didn't hurt like a bitch for half an hour after, as is the case with the Wii boxing.

Nice Kaylee avatar, by the way. River is hotter though. :X

Good for you, Blake. Be smart!

However, I betcha my BO from a week of camping can kick your BO in the junk, bigtime. I smell like a bear's thong. :duh:

Congrats Blake! Trust me, the day you finish your MA will be one of the happiest days of your life. There is such a feeling of accomplishment and pride. I know how hard it is, so I am very proud of you for pushing through! I personally cannot wait until I have my phD done so that I can have this thing people keep referring to as a "job." :)

When (if) I finish my MA later this year, I might burn this mother down out of sheer joy. It will be a celebration like no other.

I wish I had more hands...so I could give those titties four thumbs down!

Thanks, Jeansie. My September class is Seminar in a Literary Period II. We're reading Frankenstein, so it'll be a good class I bet.

Once I get done with the M.A., you should totally go to college and let me be your teacher!

ADDED:
Incidentally, I didn't mean for that last part to be pretentious at all. Looking at it now it seems that way, but that wasn't my intent.

What I meant was that you'd totally be a model student in an English class. :) It'd be awesome to have you contributing to the discussions.

If you were my teacher, Blake, I'd probably fail out of sheer nervousness. :X

I wrote a paper for Adam's English Composition class when he was in college. He didn't have time to do it, but I had read the instructions for the paper and offered to do it for him (I was bored, I needed something to do). I noticed that it could be about any topic of the student's choice, so I wrote a paper entitled The Three Stages of the Romero Zombie.

I scored a 94 on it. That's the only college assignment I've ever done. Given that I didn't even graduate high school properly, I was stoked that I scored so high. The teacher even jotted a note on the paper about how creative it was. I've got the paper in my desk somewhere, just to remind myself that I'd probably do well in college English courses.

Man, I really want to go to school.

After an exhausting month of 600+ pages of reading each week, plus unit discussions and exams, I just submitted the final research paper (Knowledge and Consequence in "Frankenstein") and so that means goodbye to Seminar in Lit. Period II - Romantic.

And, no class in October!

I have a whole month...oh teh sweetness.

November brings Film History - American.

Drink up!

Good job, Blake.

As for myself, I am sitting about a month away from my comprehensive oral exam.

Oh, and I'm working on hammering out that thesis at the moment, too.

Wait, how'd this become the unofficial "MA in English thread?" :shifty:

Okay, let's break out the beer and chips...I have completed all of my coursework for my Master's degree. The only thing I have left to do is write my thesis project, which can be either the traditional, five-chapter thesis consisting of 50-70 pages, or an article for submission to a scholarly journal, consisting of about 25 pages.

I'm opting for the latter, because my topic lends itself better to the journal article format--there's not a lot of literature review, which is a big part of a traditional thesis. The content is also going to be more familiar to readers of, say, American Film Quarterly than anyone else. My preliminary topic proposal is the theme of the train as a confined space in film, possibly using:

Murder on the Orient Express
Silver Streak
Runaway Train
Under Siege 2: Dark Territory
Emperor of the North
Broken Arrow

I have a request in to one of my course professors requesting that she become my thesis advisor. The Capstone Course lasts 2 months, and then I have 6 months after that to submit the thesis, though I'd like to get it done before summer's over.

I *do* have a comprehensive final examination, but it's no biggie. I choose 27 questions from a list of 50 and answer them. Multiple choice. And it doesn't count toward my pass/fail. Oh, and I have to resubmit two essays I wrote in other classes. Again, they don't affect my pass/fail. No stressin' about comps here. :D

Anyway, that's the plan. If I'm not around much, it's because I've gone insane from too much stuff to do...this on top of planning a move, a new career, a wedding, etc. Yikes. But I'm happy. No more reading a bunch of shit I didn't wanna read.
