According to Yahoo News and Billboard, Joe Walsh is reporting that the Eagles are finally putting the finishing touches on their new studio album... their first since 1979's The Long Run. They plan to tour in 2008 in support of the album, which is rumored to be titled The Long Road to Eden. All four band members (Walsh, Glenn Frey, Don Henley and Timothy B. Schmit) wrote songs for the album.

I'm a huge fan of the Eagles. Henley is from this area and is sort of a local - well, not hero, but the object of respect - and it'll be interesting to hear the new studio album. I wasn't a big fan of "Love Will Keep Us Alive" from Hell Freezes Over, and I thought "Get Over It," while catchy, just didn't have a lot of power. If JD Souther helped write any tunes, I imagine they'll be quite good, as the Fry/Henley/Souther tunes are always my favorites.

If they've got anything like "The Heart of the Matter," "The Boys of Summer," or "The End of the Innocence" I'm so there (and yes, I realize those are all Henley solo album tracks.)

I'd love to see them live, but ticket prices are outrageous. And I'm a little unsure why they shitcanned Don Felder a few years back...

I love The Eagles. Saw them in '95 and they were flawless.

I'm taking three of their CDs with me and the family camping tomorrow. Ain't nothing like being in the woods with a campfire going and The Eagles playing in the background.

Take It Easy is one of my favorite songs in the world, next to John Lennon's Imagine and Louis Armstrong's What A Wonderful World.

Yeah... their ticket prices do tend to hit the roof (and sometimes go through it). I saw them play at Texas Stadium in 1994 on their Hell Freezes Over Tour, and those tickets were $100 each (I took a date). Add t-shirts and other goodies, and that show alone cost me nearly $500. Still.... it was worth it.

I saw them again in 2001 and 2003 at American Airlines Center, and the ticket prices were still high, but I didn't pay nearly as much as I did in '94. They always put on a very entertaining show, and I really hope I can see them next year.

As for the deal with Felder being asked to leave the band in 2001, I don't think all the details of that have come to light, but it had a lot to do with money.

Yeah, I think they're probably one of the few acts that actually is worth the price. I don't go to concerts anymore (save my annual George Strait show) so I really should just buy the tickets if/when they come back to CenturyTel. It's not like I'm spending lots of money going to other shows.

I hear that Joe Walsh plays most of the show with his false teeth out. Heh.

Joe Walsh is really funny in concert! He always does something at least once that makes everyone laugh (including the other Eagles).

You really should go see them if they come play in your area. Their past set lists (in '94, '01 and '03) included all of the group's hits as well as all of their solo stuff and a lot of great album tracks that weren't huge hits but are great songs anyway.

About a year ago, one of the cable channels showed a pretty recent Eagles concert that was about 2 hours long. Ugly Joe did his "helmet cam" thing, which was pretty cute, and played "Rocky Mountain Way," which is a great tune.

The only problem I had was with the arrangements - "Hotel California" and several others had a kind of Caribbean sound that I wasn't too fond of (whereas the "Hell Freezes Over" tracks were spot on perfect.) Still, that doesn't excuse me from going. Damn, now I really want to see the Eagles!

I think that was the concert from Austraila. Right? I saw it once on PBS.

Don't worry about some of the songs sounding a little different. For the most part, they play them exactly as you remember them. They change a few things here and there, but that's just to spice things up and to keep it interesting for them. I'm sure it gets boring playing the exact same stuff all the time. For example, in 1994 there was a wonderful saxophone solo right before Glenn Frey sang "You Belong to the City."

I know I said it before.... but go see them. I'm 100% sure you'll love the show.

I'll second that, Take It Easy is also one of my favorite Eagle's tunes, along with the slower, but still intense Witchy Woman. My wife dislikes them, for the somewhat irrational reason that "they overplay Hotel California on the radio".

I used to get tired of Hotel California when I was a bit younger, like Stairway To Heaven from Led Zeppelin or Satisfaction from The Stones.

It took a while for the "signature" songs of these great bands to win me over again. The radio just plays the piss out of them and only some of the times they'll play the other hits.

Well, I picked up Long Road Out of Eden on Tuesday, and after listening to it about eleventy billion times, I have to say that it's an amazing album. I mean, I'm happy to get a 2 CD set for 12 bucks in the first place, but it's very strong. The first disc kind of gets you reintroduced to the Eagles, and it goes from there. The title track is like the next chapter to "Hotel California" and it works well.

With so much tripe coming out these days, it's good to see some masterful singer-songwriter-musicians doing what they do best.

Definitely pick this one up.

I'm a big fan of the Eagles. I finally got to listen to Long Road Out Of Eden and I have to say I was impressed. The album was wonderful and the sound was tight and damn... It was better than I expected considering the almost 30 years since their last recording. Def. a must listen.
