Discussion of Scream 2.

Also, I have proven that Rose McGowan does NOT have a cameo in this! There's been a decade old rumor that she's in the audience of the "Stab" screening...she's not. And she's not at the frat party either (I watched the entire scene frame-for-frame). I wrote a full article on my Scream site if you wanna check the "Rose rumor" out...

Wow. That, my friend, is devotion.

I don't have much to add to the thread, as Scream 2 isn't on my repeat-viewing list, but I wanted to at least give you kudos for dedication!

Thank you. Expect a lot more "dedicated" Scream trilogy updates...I am just trying to provide a place where you can actually LEARN about the films other than see a lot of fancy nothing. Again...thanks.

Personally, I think the Scream trilogy is great. Scream 2 is probably my least favorite of the 3 movies, but I think it was a series with a great story.

Agreed...and hopefully there's more story to tell, hehe.

Back on topic...has anyone read the first draft of the script, titled SCREAM AGAIN?

The ending was WAY TOO CONFUSING.

3 killers? c'mon!

I liked the first one. The sequels were nothing special in my book. I hated the stupid twist in the third movie. I guess the first two are the best to me.

I did not like this movie much, but I did like some things about it. I liked them mentioning Mrs. Voorhees as a perfect killer and actually having the lead killer in the movie turn out to be a pissed off mother avenging her son. That was definitely a homage to Friday the 13th.

It just plain sucks that they had to kill off that character who knew everything about the movies. He to me was too strong of a character to just kill off. That pissed me off.

Maybe this will help...

I believe you're refering to Randy, right? My interpretation was this: yes, he knew a lot about horror flms...but again, he, himself, had never been the focus of a killer...and he lost his cool when he was going off on the phone about Billy and Stu...he simply let his guard down.

And I must say...I DID NOT see this coming...grabbing him from inside the van in broad daylight! Only from Kevin Williamson!

Part 2 is not one of my favorites either because it made no sense in the end with 3 killers. Part 3 made more sense because the guy felt like he was cheated out of a life he should've had.

Just so there's no confusion...there was only 2 killers in S2, not 3. There was 3 in the original script. I like part 2 motive(s).

I love all three Scream films. I saw the first one on opening weekend not really expecting to be very impressed, and I was pleasantly blown away. I'd really like to see new DVDs with cast commentaries and new docs.

I love Scream.
I like Scream 2.
I sometimes like Scream 3, but it could have been a lot better. I missed Randy, one little scene wasn't enough.

I hope they leave it as a trilogy.

To me Randy would have been great in part 3.

I liked the trilogy....but I have to say I loved the first one, it's my favorite by far. I liked the other 2 but nothing even close to the first one.

This one is my least favorite of the series. Although, I've only watched it once, so maybe my thoughts on it have changed.

Yeah, I thought it sucked that they killed Randy, but they probably figured that not all the original characters from the original could survive, so they had to choose one to kill off, and they chose him.

Randy was the absolute worst pic to kill in part 2 for shock value. He had so much unresolved, like his crush on Sid, and movie-geek that he was, he would have thrived in the Hollywood setting of part 3. Dewey got killed in both part one and two only to be brought back by the end of shooting the picture for no real story reason (dude shoulda been in a wheelchair by part 3 - that would've at least given him some character dev). And Gale? I agree with not killing her in part 2, but she should've become the story focus in part 3, as was the original plan.

If they make a fourth, Sydney should be killed off at the start. Major shock value there. :)

I think Scream 2 was a tad bit under Scream. Killing Randy was definitely a horrible idea, but it did make me feel for him. Caught me off guard like whoa. I never bothered to sit down and watch Scream 3, should I?

Hell yeah. S3 is definitely worth a watch. I find it to be the most entertaining of the series.

Yeah, Scream 3 was really good.

I love the opening scene, with the couple discussing films, and the craziness in the theater, with all the masks and the audience members going wild. The old switcheroo with the killer pretending to be Omar Epps' character was a nice touch. Jada Pinkett's character's death in front of the screen, with the audience thinking it was a skit, was some good stuff.

2 rates equal with the original with me.

The car crash head-impalement was classic.

That whole car scene was simply amazing. It was unlike anything we had seen in the first film...thus explaining the rules..."Chapter two bends the rules..."

Ah, that Mickey. He was a sick fuck...who wants to get caught, lol...

The 5th Golden Girl

The problem with Mickey is that he disappeared halfway through the film which made it obvious he was the (well, one of the) killer(s). I don't know if it was an editing problem or bad writing, but he should have been more prominant throughout the second half. When he was revealed as the killer, I was like, "Okay, I figured."

Then again, the reveal of the second killer more than made up for it. I went batshit when Gale Weathers walked out because I thought she was the second killer. It was a great gasp for me, and while I initially thought it was a letdown that it was Laurie Metcalf, the explanation as to who she really was and why she was doing it made for a satisfying ending.

I liked the killing of Randy. No one thought it was going to happen. Even when it happened, I thought he was going to be okay, but no... he was dead. Major shock. One of my main problems with part 3 is none of the original cast was killed. At least one of them should have died..

Anyway, I liked a lot about "Scream 2," but it's not as good as the first movie, and yet it's better than the third movie. I was in love with Sarah Michelle Gellar at the time, so I loved her as Cici and that whole scene. I don't like Jerry O'Connell, though, so he was a negative in the movie for me.

Hmm, I haven't watched the series in awhile. Maybe I'll pop them in the DVD player in a few.

According to IMDB.com (yeah, so take this however...), there's two cameo's I never realized:

Rose McGowan: Co-star of the original Scream is in crowd of movie theatre during Stab.

Matthew Lillard: Co-star of the original Scream is in the background at the frat party.

I thought Scream 2 and 3 were both pretty bad. The original movie is easily the best IMO and not a bad film, if overrated.

Scream 2 was the Friday the 13th of the series, so I naturally enjoyed it just as much as Scream 1 (Halloween, of course), but the third film is the one I completely despise.

In all fairness, it's been a long time since I last saw any of the Screams, so I should probably give them all a watch sometime and see if my feelings soften on the series as a whole. I dig the concept, but felt the first film wasn't quite there with it although it pulled it off decently enough.

Scream 2 was much better than Scream 3. I could not wait until the third one was finished, it was that bad in my opinion.

I can't count how many times I saw Scream 2 in theaters when it came out. I loved it then. Now, I think it's pretty decent. Still a good movie. Drags in some parts but a good entry in the series. I actually enjoy all three movies. The Scream films helped me expand my horror movie horizons.

I don't think Scream 2 gets it's deserved recognition for it's detailed homage to Friday the 13th. There's three things that fall under this:

1. Friday the 13th: The first is the most obvious. The killer is an older woman who's lashing out in revenge of her son's death and who she felt was responsible.

Scream 2: One of the killers was an older woman, Billy's mother, who was taking revenge on those that she felt was responsible for her son's death.

2. Friday the 13th: The killer possesses the hands of a man which leads the viewers to suspect the killer is male.

The strength of the killer is rather great as a body is hoisted into a tree, a body is tossed through a window, able to hold down a young male's head while shoving an arrow through the mattress and the male's neck, and fire arrows from a bow with enough force to pierce into a male's body and pin him onto a door.

Scream 2: The killer's build doesn't change between any of the chase sequences and murders nor do the shoes that the killer is seen wearing which also match, the second killer, Mickey (at least from what I can recall anyhow). During Randy's death, the killer's appearance syncs up with Mickey's from the previous murders as well as his build.

Billy's mother possessed enough strength to literally grab Randy and toss him into the van as well as over power and subdue him long enough to get in multiple stabbings.

3. Friday the 13th: Mrs. Voorhees loses out all of her great strength when faced with the aura of "the final girl". She displays nothing similar to the feats of what she accomplished before and her hands look nothing like the killer's did earlier in the movie when the killer's identity was unknown.

Scream 2: Billy's mother apparently has lost her great strength that enabled her to toss and subdue a young male and act like her age (an older woman). Her build also doesn't mach up with Mickey's during the killings, let alone when Randy was murdered.

That's what I mean. Not only did Scream 2 run with the "avenging mother" killer, but they played it out just like Friday the 13th in that nothing in the murder scenes, the actions made, and the appearance resembled hers in the slightest. Not saying that it's a good thing, but interesting that they took it all the way.

I think that's because there is, especially in "mystery" slasher films, a difference between the "killer" and the face behind the mask,a s it were. Scream udnerstood this and played it well in many ways. It's always the same killer, it's always "Ghostface". Ghostface is the icon, the character in their own right, a seperate identity beyond whoever wears the mask. Just as Roy *is* Jason in Part 5, for all intents and purposes. Once the mask off they become who they are, rather than Ghostface, and there's a marked difference.

I saw the Scream boxset at Newbury Comics yesterday for $10..I was tempted to get. I may go back today and grab it because I don't have any of the movies.

That box set has been long OOP, and $10 is a great price, even if the first flick doesn't even have an anamorphic transfer.
