Definitely The Final Chapter. The atmosphere was so dark and moody, it really added to the dark nature of the film. The swampy muddy lake with fog rolling off of it in the midst of a vicious storm. Everything just worked. Excellent set design for an excellently dark film.
The first movie was the king of setting and atmosphere for sure. Camp No-Be-Bo-Scou is Camp Crystal Lake in my mind.

Part 1, 2 and 4 were all great, but I'll go with Part 2 for the best atmosphere and Part 1 for the best setting.

For me its a toss up between part 3 and 6. Part 3 got my vote though.

I will go with 1-4. Pretty hard to decide, but they're all in the Crystal Lake area and have such a distinctive feel to them. Parts 6 and 7 are fun movies, but 1-4 is where the heart of the series lies. Plus, those 4 all tie into one another and that's the key. Nothing like sequels that actually pick up where the last one left off.

The first five had great atmosphere. If I were to rate them, I'd go:
a) Part 1
b) Parts 2 and 5
c) Parts 3 and 4
5 had this awesome feeling to it. I can't say why. I love the setting, and thought it was dead on creepsville!

I like part 2. The lake, the cabins, the layout of the camp, the town, and the bar out in the middle of nowhere was classic.

I went with the 3rd. That has always been my fave and for me the creepiest one

II is creepy with a good setting, but I love the in the woods campy settings of 1,2 and 5.
Part III had the feel of part IV for me in a lot of ways though. Really, 1-5 had the BEST settings.

Part 2. I just love that setting so much! I wish every Friday could have been filmed in such a great location.

I'm going to have to go with my second favorite of the movies for my favorite atmosphere TNB. I think it's the best combination of the feel of the early movies and the later movies.

I like the settings in 1-2-3-4.
The others are ok, but these are my favorites.

Parts 1 till 5.
I voted Part 1 becuase that setting will always be the original Crystal Lake for me.
I locations I didn't like are the Crystal Lake from 7, 8 and FvsJ. 7 was just a swamp, 8 was a shitty lake that was connected to the ocean with a very fake bottom.. and FvsJ was just... well... not Crystal Lake(I hate the fake flashback scenes).

As a group, parts 1 - 5 have the best atmospheres for me, with 2 being at the bottom of that list (but still better than anything after part 5).
My ratings:
Part 3
Part 5
Part 1
Part 4
Part 2
..........
..........
..........
[way the fuck down there]
Part 6/Part 7
Freddy vs. Jason
Jason Takes Manhattan
Jason Goes To Hell
Jason X
Why I choose part 3, let's see... for the greenish/light brownish hues, nothing more. I am a HUGE fan of those damn hues.

Part VI higher than Part V in the setting and atmosphere category?

VI had a great atmospehere for a slasher but not a F13th movie. I'll always content that it in no way felt like the Northeast. I lived in Georgia and pines and red mud scream Southeast.

For me it's a toss up between one and four, but I chose part four.

Part 6, it had the most realistic "camp-like" feel, IMO. :)
I like the setting and atmosphere in 1 & 2. I especially like the campfire scene in 2.

Yeah, the campfire scene was GREAT. That's one of my favorite scenes of ANY F13. I've always viewed these movies as campfire tales anyway so that scene just fit perfectly. But I voted for 1 only because the atmospheric sound effects were better (the birds and such) but 1 and 2 were both great.

Part 2
I like the woods, the main cabin decked in faded wood, the road leading into the cabin area, the bar scenes, the hidden shack in the boonies... the setting is perfect!!!

I loved the atmosphere/settings in Parts 1-5.
But to narrow it down, i'd say 1 and 2 had the best.

I really love the look and feel of Parts 1-4, but I think Part VII really got the "creepy" tone down to a 't.'
NETRA
09-19-2007, 04:16 AM
I suppose that depends heavily upon what creeps you out. I have always thought the tone and settings in Parts 1 and 2 were far creepier. I get many chills down my spine (which is how I gauge the creep factor) watching those two. The images, settings and tonal sound effects just worked together flawlessly.

Netra, are you aware that Jason Lives was filmed in nearby Convington, GA?
Anyway, my favorite atmosphere and setting is a tie among the first five. You can't beat those, in my opinion.

Yeah, I did a Yahoo map search and found out it's about 50 east of Atlanta. I'd love to go see the camp and everything. But I can't convince any of my friends to go there with me. :(

It's not too far from the Florida border, but it's way out of the way for me. When I to Florida we take 95, and it's about 2-3 hours off of 95. We drove in the vicinity and it's really in the middle of nowhere. You really need access to the net or a GPS if you have no idea how to get out there. Very easy to get lost.

Yeah, I've never been, either. I've been on the highway that goes right by Covington, but that's about it.

It's that far south? I thought it was about 50 miles east of Atlanta. Are there 2 Covingtons in GA?

As far as I know, Covington is towards the middle of the state, east of Atlanta (like you said).

Cool. I didn't think Yahoo Maps was THAT unreliable. I have a list of all the places I want to see (the camp, the cemetery, etc.) and directions on how to get there. Now I just need a partner. (And someone with money to get me out of jail if I'm caught for trespassing.)

The Final Chapter yet again. The party house & the Jarvis home were great settings for the movie. Great feeling of isolation.
sCabbOy
10-30-2007, 04:21 PM
I see it opposite, and it wasn't isolation. Two houses next to eachother and 10 people. Compare it to part 3... ONE house and 8 people.
I dunno.. I loved the atmosphere in 1,2 and 3 best. They just nailed it in those movies.

10-30-2007, 04:28 PM
I still see it as isolation. A little ways from town & the other house wasn't occupied until the teens rented it out. It may have been occupied various times throughout the year but who knows. And near the end, Trish & Tommy had nowhere else to go & no way of escaping since the car was broken down. I'd feel pretty isolated in that situation.
And I do agree about part 3. One house in the middle of nowhere.

I just think all of the fun in Part 4 made the movie less tense up until we knew they were all dead, and still Rob was alive. When I was a kid I was sure he'd be the hero of the movie... but once they were dead, yes the movie was very eerie and cold.

When I was a kid I was sure he'd be the hero of the movie...
I thought that too about Rob. He was the burly woodsman & looked like he'd give Jason a run for his money. And he didn't. Jason killed him & Rob made sure to tell Trish that he was killing him by yelling about it the entire time. I guess it made for a decent shock, thinking that he wouldn't die...or wouldn't die so easily.

I still think Rob was a hero because he essentially gave himself to Jason so Trish could get a good head start and hopefully get away.

Very true. A selfless & heroic act on Rob's part.

Call it a dick move, but I voted for all of them. That's why I love the series so much; each one of them makes me feel different when I watch them. Like in 3, I love the feel of the entire barn scene. The hay, the whole feeling of dueling in an enclosed space.
Part 1 really makes me love the characters and feel for them. It's probably shittiest situation ever to get murdered while fixing up a camp. You're just like, "Yo, I can't wait to smoke this pot and put up these gutters. When these kids get here it's gonna be so cool." Just daydreamin' about archery, and swimming, and macaroni necklaces.
And Part 8 gives me the atmosphere like I'm slowly dying watching a horrible movie.
The One and Only
09-30-2008, 04:23 PM
Part 2 for me since the area just seems like any spot in my neck of the woods that you'd come across. The cornfields. The backroads. The bar and grill. Packanack ,and the woods surrounding it are just like the homes ,and forests you see around heree. It just seems so close to home, to me at least. That the whole slaughter looks like it could happen a couple of miles from where I live.:shifty: Giving the whole flick a rather realistic atmosphere.
Part 4 also deserves kudos for the post credits scene with the cops and paramedics cleaning up the crime scene after his 3-D massacre. After thier job is done the procession of cop cars and meat wagons leave single file under the spotlight of a heliocopter patrolling the scene, and after the light fades when copter has left. Higgin's Hollow is suddenly left eeirelly quiet under the light of the full moon. Kind of unsettling after the spot was the location of such a flurry of activity.

Yeah, that's the real beauty of the series. It's a shame people are too cooped up in their own little worlds where only this movie is worthwhile because it does that. In my mind, the only films in the series that could essentially be viewed as stupid or without merit would be 5/8/X because they're played for shits and giggles completely. The series always advanced slowly. One was the innovator, 2 had the different killer, 3 had the mask and 3-D gimmick, 4 was the awesome teen comedy, 5 was the iffy mid-eighties drawn out slasher, 6 was the revival as a zombie, 7 was the one with the most pissed off Jason, 8 was the one that sent Jason to Looney Toons land, 9 was the attempted revival at something new with a supernaturally infused plot, 10 sent Jason to space and again tried re-invent the character with Uber Jason.
Now, why would I want to stop the plot advancement at 4? Where do you go from having Jason hacked to bits? They did the only two logical things, the series could go back to the whodunit nature of the first (5) or bring him back as a force to be reckoned with (6).
