It's a real shame that the TV series was never treated with any respect by Fox. Thank goodness for DVDs. I hope the special edition of Serenity coming out later this month is worth picking up.

I've watched the entire series on DVD this week(Target $19.99:D) I must say this show was awesome, and the movie was unbelievably good, Fox must have been out of there GO-RAN minds to treat like they did, TV needs a Joss Whedon show

I love, love, love Serenity. I had no prior knowledge of Firefly going in, but after seeing Serenity, I drove straight from the theater to the local Best Buy to pick up the set. I watched the entire thing in about a week. I really wish the show could find some way to get back on the air; heck, I'd settle for a DTV film at this point.

I love Firefly/Serenity. Firefly was a great show. It was far better than the majority of the shows on T.V.. It was a shame that it got canceled.

Just another in a long line of good shows Fox cancels.

Take care and God bless.

Everything the mystical "FOX" touches must come to dust. I refuse to watch anything in first-run on FOX because everything I've ever liked on that network has been summarily trashed by the executives.

Firefly is indeed a great show. It just never captured the imagination of the mainstream -- nor did Serenity, which is why a sequel hasn't been optioned -- but I still hope that maybe, one day, Joss will do a DTV sequel (there were rumors going for a while that they were going to do a TV Movie for SCI-FI, but that never came to pass).

I hear Joss is gearing up a canonical comic book series which, given the success of Buffy and the hype surrounding the up-coming Angel series, isn't surprising.

Go out and buy the Special Edition DVD when it is released. Apparently, Joss Whedon made some comments at Comic Con that indicate that executives at Universal will be looking at the sales figures for the up-coming Special Edition. If the DVD sells well, we may see a sequel.

Interviewer: So after all is said and done, was Serenity profitable? Do you consider it a success?

Joss Whedon (JW): It's a success to the studio or else we wouldn't be doing a special edition DVD. They actually admitted as much on paper, which you know studios are loathe to do, and that was actually from the theatrical. Theatrical was a disappointment, as everyone knows, but it did go into the black. Then the DVD came and they took me aside and said "We can't keep these things on the shelf. We want to do a special edition." And I didn't want to hear that because I knew it would have to be a truly special edition to make me happy. There had to be a real reason, some real goodies.

Interviewer: So give me hope for a Serenity II

JW: Hope for it probably rests with this DVD.

Interviewer: So then you're saying we've got a chance?

JW: Well it's probably not being discussed in boardrooms right now, but the fact of the matter is if it makes enough money sooner or later they say "hey, this is money!" Also there are paradigms that are much cheaper, it doesn't have to be enormous. But on the other hand I'm happy to say all of my actors are working very hard. It's not the same situation where we all threw in for pennies because we had to finish telling that story. Now that situation might be harder to bring about.

I love Firefly/Serenity.
Jayne is probably my favorite character.
I was sad we didn't get to learn more about Sheperd Book.
On Buffy and Angel I found the lead character was the lease interesting
character on their respective show, but I really liked Mal.

I just got the big, glossy "Official Companion Volume 2" with the shooting scripts of 8-14 and tons of other goodies. It's FANTASTIC. Highly recommend it. I cannot WAIT for the Serenity: SE now! :D

I actually felt the same way about Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I found the character of Buffy to be the least interesting. I liked watching the rest of the cast develop more. With Angel, I've only seen season 5, and in that I was interested in the entire cast -- even Angel, who I couldn't stand on Buffy.

I like all of the characters in Firefly. I think Joss finally got it right -- even Mal, who is a pretty unlikeable character in Serenity, is interesting and endearing. It's also a testament to how good Joss is that he managed to make Jayne likable.

That's so true. I would probably hate to know someone like that in real life, but he's likable in the series/movie.

I'm dragging this thread out of the depth to post this awesome clip from Nathan Fillion's new show, Castle:

Oh my giddy aunt, I loved that. The meta quality of the dialog had me in stitches. It was great to see Nathan in the costume one last time.

That clip ruled. Since this thread came and went I have viewed both the series and the movie, and have to say that I agree with everyone else that it was cut down before it's time. The show was truly hitting it's stride when it ended IMO. It's also cool to see a person who loved their series and character as much as Nathan loved Mal.

I need to check these out. I've heard loads of good things about 'em from lots of people. Plus, I'm a fan of Summer Glau & Nathan Fillion.

Are you a fan of any of Joss' other shows Notti? If so, you'd probably love it just like all of his other fans, if not, there's a big chance you'll still like just because it was a damn good show.
