I don't like when Jason Lives is on TV. They cut out "Fart head" ! As if that is offensive for crying out loud!!!

ugh

And Part 5 is worse when it comes to 'made for tv' edit jobs.

I remember watching the fillms tons of times as a kid throughout the 90s on the USA Network and TNT. Seeing as I didn't own all the films on video at the time, I always looked forward to 13ths falling on Fridays, because back in those days, it meant a guarantee that USA and TNT would be airing marathons (though I recall parts 4 and 6 airing much less than the others..and USA seemed to really prefer parts 5, 7, and 8). These stations even aired the films on any old day quite a bit. How things have changed. AMC does show some of the films occasionally now, as does Spike TV, but nothing has equaled the air time these films got back in the 90s. Even though I have all the Friday films on DVD (as most of those reading this probably do as well), watching the films on TV still brings me back to a fun time of getting excited for a Friday the 13th on the calendar and rushing to check the TV schedule for another marathon.

I love watching them on Monsters HD, with the factoids and footage from convention panels in between the films.

I remember when they used to run the marathons on TNT and USA as well. I'd stay up all night just watching commercial, after commercial, after horribly chopped up scene and loving it. Seeing as how I wasn't allowed to own the movies, I simply had to settle for that. When I was eventually old enough and my mother would let me watch them uncut, I remember being absolutely shocked and horrified all over again.

Awesome.

Yea the TV versions get on my nerves. I mean, some of the extra scenes are cool, but all of the gore is cut out.

Yeah even though I own the boxset. It is funny watching them on regular channels. Especially watching them to see how much they cut as far as nudity is concerned. Spike TV I think is one of the worst for it. AMC not as bad. Last night I watched part 7 to see how much of the nude sees with Sandra would be cut out. Not as much as Spike did a few years ago. The cuts that Spike did that were stupied was the scene where Sandra and Russell are having sex they cut out the overheard view of them making out before they started talking which made no sense. Since AMC last night did nothing to cut the scene, they cut out most of the scene of Jason dragging Sandra across the sand instead of darkinging it so you couldn't see her ass like they did on AMC and one of the most stupied one of all was them putting a black spot on the tiny bit of Sandra's boob that was exposed that was mostly blocked by her arm when Tina bumped into her body in the woods in the end when last not on AMC they didn't do anything to it since her nipples weren't exposed. Hope I didn't sound like a perv but I think Heidi Kozak was very sexy in her part as Sandra in part 7. I always tape each time it is on a different cable channel to see what kind of sensoring they do. My guess is the people on AMC are more liberal and not hollyer than thou than people running Spike TV must be. Just my two cents.:p

Even though it was already mentioned in that film's thread, figured I'd bring this back up to say Friday 2 will be on Bravo in a few minutes.

Of course, back in the days of me catching the films on TV all the time, they hadn't yet started plastering 50 advertisements over everything constantly.

You can thank Tivo and DVR recorders for that. I do agree that its very annoying, especially if you're trying to record something off TV.

Are you saying networks slap ads all over the screen now to spite people who might want to record stuff? Or are you saying it's so people who avoid commercials must still sit there and take it?

A bit of both actually, but more of the latter.

I'd just get the movies if you don't have them. The boxset with 1-8 is usually priced to a great deal.

Friday the 13th part3 is on chiller tonight but they are cutting the hell out of it and not even adding any extra tv scenes.

James M
03-22-2008, 03:59 AM
That's because no extra TV scenes exist. The only Fridays with extra/alternate scenes (aside from cut gore) are The Final Chapter, A New Beginning ("Version 2"), Jason Lives (just one scene and sometimes the workprint death of Garris), Jason Goes to Hell, and Freddy vs. Jason. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Even then, for the 80s films, the old TV versions are fading further into obscurity as networks just show the DVDs with additionally edited violence, nudity, and language.

I'm aware of the original Part 3 ending, but no one has that.

James M, the TV version of JL did not use the workprint version of Garris' death. It had a totally different version... which was in actuality more violent than both of the other two versions.

JTM has brief additional footage of Jason after Julius' beheading in its TV version.

FvJ has new scenes in the TV edit? I caught parts of it on SCIFI once and didn't notice anything different, though they butchered the hell out of the final battle! It was quite laughable.

James M
03-22-2008, 04:17 PM
Well, I never watched it on TV, so I don't know, but I was just saying different scenes do exist.

The Tall Man

Skuppy, an alternate shot of Lori beheading Freddy is used in the TV version of FvsJ... and the end battle is so censored that they actually had to remove the score track from the film, cut it, then lay the score track back into the movie to make it seem less noticeable.

IFC occasionally airs the original. Even though i've watched my VHS and DVD of it alot, I still watch it whenever they do, lol.

I normally don't watch horror movies on regular channels...but I do find myself watching the F13's. I watched Part 3 and 7 when they aired it on AMC around Halloween.

No "TV versions" of the Fridays from the 80s are shown anymore. Just the theatrical versions edited for content.

See what you mean cause 3 and 5 was just regular versions.

I remember for a while there, the only version of Jason Takes Manhattan I had seen was on TNN (now Spike), which I had recorded. I loved it, and then when I got the DVD I saw all that they cut out. It was cool.

Yep, I remember once seeing it on WGN at like 2 AM.

JVM
06-29-2008, 08:37 AM
Yeah, according to Comcast listings - and I check every few days now - it pretty much hasn't been on for 2-3 months, while Jason X has had repeated showings, as well as A Nightmare on Elm Street (1) and Halloween: The Curse of "Mike" Myers lol

The Dream Master

JVM, you should really just get the DVD anyway. It's unrated, so you'll miss out on all the gore, especially if you see it on BET or WGN.

I tried to. Minors can't even rent unrated DVDs *sigh* It sucks not being 18 when it comes to movies.

If you go to Blockbuster, all you've got to do is get your parents to give them permission to rent R-Rated and Unrated stuff. That's how it used to work, at least.
