I did a thread search and only found one thread for one game in particular.
I've been wanting to talk about the Legend Of Zelda series to other fans of the games. The eastereggs, tips/tricks, stories in the games, characters, just anything and all things Legend of Zelda from the first game on Nintendo Entertainment System all the way to the Gamecube/ Wii's Twlight Princess or the DS's Spirit Tracks.
I know Jeans is a fan, we've talked a bit, but are there anymore fans out there who want to discuss the Zelda series, my Fav's are OOT, WW, and TP.

Well, I'm not as hardcore, but I've enjoyed the series. I've played the first four games between 90-94. I enjoyed it and liked that the first two NES games had a gold cartridge instead of the standard gray one. I almost got "A Link To The Past" for Christmas, but financial problems prevented that.

A Link To the Past was a fun game. Definitly pick it up. You could probably find it used for GBA at Gamestop or something. It feels like the original with a similiar story to Ocarina Of Time.

A link to the past is arguably the best entry in the entire series, depending on who you talk to. I'm particularly fond of it and OOT. OOT is often considered to be the greatest video game ever created (game rankings, gamespot, metacritic, etc.).
I have all the console games. The first time I played the original was back in 2003, I believe. Couldn't make it past the 7th stage (don't know what the hell I was supposed to do).
Link's awakening... I want to like this game, but it moves so sloooowly. The people talk one letter at a time (:)). Never made it very far, probably the first boss. I hear the difficulty is legendary. Anybody ever beat this game?
A link to the past is nearly flawless. I absolutely love it. Just played it again last year. It's one of those games that you can play for years on end, regardless of the graphics. It's all about gameplay and exploration. It's like the classic Zelda, except everything is improved. It has a monkey who shakes you down for cash. Gotta love that.
OOT is simply incredible. Pretty much my favorite Zelda game. I've started playing it 3 times. Beat it once. My nephew wanted me to beat it for him, so I'd go to my brother's house regularly and kept advancing through the game. About 80% through, my nephew decides to erase the game. (He did that on my morrowind game for the X-Box after 20 hours of playtime... remind me to kick his ass). I have a special version called the "Master Quest" which is harder than the basic OOT (items are also moved around, refreshing the game experience if you've already beaten the original). Memory card pooped out on me on the final castle.
Wind waker? Eh, never cared much for it. Beat the first boss, ended up sailing everywhere. Lost interest.
Twilight Princess is a masterpiece. It's on my shortlist of games to beat; I've had it for a few years now and just never got around to it. Managed to beat the first two stages. Interesting open field battles, walking upside down in the fire cave, impressive graphics, beautiful world. Even though it's technically a game from the last generation of consoles, it's still an immersive experience.
I consider the Zelda series to be the best in the industry. I prefer Resident Evil more, and RE4 is my favorite console game of all time, but OOT might be the greatest video game ever created... and most overrated by some people's accounts. To each his own. The little green dude kicks ass. :D

The sequel to TP is due out this year, and I hope to God they make some online 4 player action in the form of that Temple of Whatever that you have to battle in waves at the end (hey... so Zelda did that shit before Gears 2 Horde, never thought of that before). That'd be so fun online with a couple buds and would give it some great replayability - not that the game will necessarily need it. I never could beat it, though, I could only get to like the second last part.

Link to the Past and Twilight Princess are the only two games that have kept my attention long enough to finish. I have the original Legend of Zelda, Zelda 2, Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Windwaker and Twilight Princess on my shelf.

I've beaten all the major ones (meaning the console games), with the exception of Twilight Princess (which I've had since launch :X). I wouldn't mind playing one for the GBA or DS for some old school Zelda action. Any recommendations?

Dunno. I had Link's awakening on Gameboy... it's virtually unplayable at this point. The minish cap for GBA was dull. Never cared for the handheld versions.
I forgot about Majora's mask. Never played it. :)

@ Monkey - Agreed. OOT was the best installment of the series... and ALTTP, very nostalgic, very sweet graphics, and loved the HOOKSHOT!
As far as the Master Quest, I did that shit and got to the Water Temple and Couldn't figure out how to light the torches in the center room. Windwaker I liked. Wasn't a fan of the cartoon look, but the playability was great, loved the grappling hook, and thought it was sweet Link had dodge moves.
@ Brett - Haven't heard anything or seen anything about the new release aside from this poster:
http://wiimedia.ign.com/wii/image/article/992/992063/the-legend-of-zelda-wii-2-20090605000034019_640w.jpg
Its got me curious because the person behind Link looks similiar to the Master Sword, rumour has it that's the "Sage" or "Spirit" of the Master Sword.
TP was fucking awesome IMO, but not revolutionary like ALTTP and OOT.

Nintendo has claimed that The Twilight Princess is the last Zelda game that will play "as we know them". I took that to mean it'll be the last game that polishes up the Ocarina of Time gameplay, that the next Wii game will feature an all-new gameplay mechanic.

I was never really interested in the Zelda series until OOT. I played and beat Zelda on SNES, but it didn't strike me as much as OOT did. Of the ones on console since then, it (including MQ) and Twilight Princess are top. Wind Waker, I thought was too easy in parts. In master quest, you need a guide in the water temple, otherwise, you will screw up the game. Gannondorf, was easy in it. I liked in OOT where you made Gannon eat the sword.

I liked it in Wind Waker where you impale Gannon in the freakin' skull with the Master Sword. Coolest defeat of Gannon in the whole franchise.

You can get Zelda 3/A link to the past for about 17 bucks on amazon, including shipping for the SNES. They also have it on GBA (DS compatible) if you no longer have the old system. :)

I'd say it's best to get ALTTP for the VC considering the save batteries in those old games die out. I know, my NHL 95 one stopped working in like '97... and I played it fucking relentlessly for years after it died. Relentlessly. If that game ever came out as a download, I would be unstoppable. In a 60 minute game, I scored some 140 goals. When you get to 100, the scoreboard uses shapes as the first digit, which makes no sense.

Yeah, I have some that work fine too, but the risk is still there and the download is only $8, which is still a better deal all around to me. Especially considering the VC controller is a lot like a SNES one. And it may even make ALTTP a bit more comfortable using the analog stick instead of the D-pad for marathon gaming sessions. He can't go wrong either way, but I know I'm dreading the day my Metroid II battery dies. :(

The Legend of Zelda series is the best franchise in all of gaming, IMO.
I believe that A link to the past is the best installment to date! At the time it was absolutely revolutionary with it's top-down 3/4 view. I love the story! My favorite in the series... the dungeons are awesome and the bosses are well thought up. I also like how long the game is. I could be wrong but I do believe it has the most dungeons in the series at 12...
Ocarina of Time was an awesome game and the greatest to hit the N64 or since. I loved how they chose to illuminate the back-story to ALTTP with this instalment.
Twilight Princess was much better than I anticipated and still holds up as my third favorite in the series.
Didn't care for Wind Walker, LINK II, or Majora's Mask. Although I still play MM from time to time.

A Link to The Past I thought had the same amount of dungeons as Ocarina? 3 in the light world, 5 in the dark world, and the final battle. So I count 9 for both. I could be mistaken, but where's the other 3 come in in Link/Past?
And anyone have thoughts on the mysterious talking owl in Ocarina?

There are seven in the dark world. Then there is Agahnim's Tower. You could even count Hyrule Castle too, I suppose.

Oh yeah. There was 7. But Aganim's castle is Hyrule castle. If you mean Turtle Rock in the Dark World that's one of the 7 in the Dark World. The final battle is in the Dark Pyramid, which also counts as the final battle with Ganondorf in Ocarina. But yeah your right about the 7 dungeons. 7 Crystals, 7 maidens decendants of 7 sages. So I count 11: Final battle, 3 light world, 7 dark... I guess if you count Hyrule Castle that WOULD make 12. But wait, there was still the Well and if you count Gerudo Fortress, that's technically 4 past, 7 future, and final battle... 12. Atleast I was right about LTTP and Oot having the same amount of stages.

You're forgetting the tower you go to just after defeating Trinexx on Turtle Rock and before you go to the Dark Pyramid. You face all three bosses from the light world in it and face Agahnim for the last time before he flies off. And then there is Hyrule Castle where you face Agahnim for the first time before entering the dark world. So that's 13.

Yeah, you should play the game again if nothing more becasue it's fucking awesome...
In all seriousness though, Agahnim's Tower is the longest dungeon in the game and I'm surprised you don't remember it. After Turtle rock you travel to the center of the top of Death Mountain. It's a huge golden tower. It has at least 7 levels if I remember correctly and you face three of the bosses over again. When you reach the final boss of the tower it's Agahnim and he splits into three forms with two of them being fake. After you hit the real Agahnim enough he turns into a bat like creature and flies off. We follow him to the Pyramid where he crashes through the roof and becomes Ganon.

One thing that always bothered me about the whole series is that they seem to have just forgotten about the whole Seven Sages/Light and Dark World thing. I know TP had the whole Twilight thing, but that seems different than the Dark World. I wonder if Nintendo will ever revisit that storyline.
And don't even get me started on timelines and all that. Since they split the timeline after OOP, it's just headache inducing.

I love the Zelda series. I missed the early games that came out on the SNES and NES, even though I owned both systems. Living in a small town when you're too young to drive can give you ridiculously limited access to video games.
I jumped on board with Ocarina of Time, though, and I love that game with such a passion that I still play it through once a year in December to this day. That game is amazing. I had never played anything like it before, and the closest I ever came to playing anything like it again was when I finally bought upgraded from my N64 to a Gamecube last year and played Twilight Princess. It seems that Twilight Princess gets a lot of flack online, but I thought it was amazing.
I've been meaning to play Majora's Mask again, but I've just never gotten around to it. I thought that it was a pretty fun game, though. I absolutely detest Wind Waker, but I'm determined to play it as well. I actually just got a copy a few weeks ago and played through the first few dungeons. I'm probably going to pick it up again in a few hours, but so far this game pales in comparison to the other Zelda games that I've played, and the sailing is really tedious.
Of course, through the wonders of the internet, I've managed to play the old games that I missed on the NES and the SNES. I don't understand how people were supposed to beat Zelda 2.

Got a Wii for my birfday a couple a weeks ago, and I'm revisiting Zelda II for the first time in 20 years or so. I've played 1 and 3 (which is grossly overrated) recently, and Zelda 2 is easily tops for me of the 3. Not until OOT do you get fight mechanics outside of Zelda 2 that are engaging at all; the fights of the top-down perspective, to me, always pale in comparison to the story and puzzle-solving elements of those games.
Zelda II is sort of like Castlevania meets Zelda. The great problem solving elements of the original Zelda are there, but you need complex strategies to beat opponents in the side-scrolling portion as well. In 1 and 3, you can get really, really far by just stabbing like a madman.
Not that the 2D perspective is perfect, it's certainly no Castlevania. I wish you could earn different swords, and a non-magic projectile (boomerang) would be nice. A couple of the spells are lame too. Instead of the "fairy" spell, which is literally not useful than in more than 2 or 3 situations, a hookshot with conveniently placed anchors (think Super Metroid) would have been a much better addition.

LTTP was clearly one of the best. I loved everything about the game... all of the new equipment, and it was the first Zelda game to include the story within the game. The first two Zelda's for NES simply had you read the story in the instruction manual then start to play, LTTP was perfect in the respect that you don't just find one person and have them say "Go north," but the characters would give you a bit of story then tell you to see someone else, who would give you more story then tell you to see so and so because they know where you're supposed to go. Agahnim talked to you, Zelda talked to you, you had to look for clues... to add the Pegasus shoes were doep. I always wanted Ocarina Of Time to have the Pegasus Shoes. Like after approaching the guy who wanted the bunny hood as you were an adult and having him give you Pegasus Shoes which allowed you to run at the speed of Epona without having to feed the damn thing carrots. The hookshot was phenomonal, which got better in Ocarina with the first person perspective, and even better in Twilight Princess when you could use two hookshots simaltaniously. But LTTP is by far the best because it was the start of the evolution of the games.

I've only played most of the games up to Majora's Mask, which I didn't really care for that much. My favorite is A Link to the Past. Many fond memories of my childhood come with that game. I actually played it last summer & still loved it. I'm also quiet fond of Ocarina of Time. The first for NES was pretty damn good too. I thought Zelda II was kind of "meh." Link's Awakening for Gameboy was ok.
Has anyone ever played the three Zelda games for Phillips CD-i?

Whoa!!! Hold the fuckin' phone... there is nothing overrated about The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past!
Best Zelda EVER!!!
Ooooh. Sorry friend, but I just disagree. I do believe it tells a more cohesive story than 1 and 2 (particularly 1), and the toys are a lot of fun. Particularly the hookshot. But, this game is criminally easy. Especially coming off 2, which is probably the hardest of the series, it felt like a toy version of a Zelda game. Although there is more to do, it didn't feel as big as Zelda 2, either. This is disputable, but to me, there didn't seem to be much effort in terms of creating a distinct atmosphere for the various villages. They were just a few scattered houses in the middle of the battlescape. This is an element of Zelda 2 that I REALLY enjoy, and something I think they did a good job with from OOT on (at least with the console games, I've never played the portable ones).
To me, Zelda 3 just doesn't feel like a part of the evolution.

I haven't, but I am a fan of this sub-generation of consoles (CD-i, Jaguar, and 3DO). Like everyone else, I hear they're awful. There are 3, I think, two of which are FMV, Dragon's Lair, type games. Pretty pointless IMO. One is a side-scroller with Zelda. I'm actually kinda into that, although I hear the load times are atrocious, and it really hinders gameplay.

Yeah one thing I have to admit is Zelda 2 is definitly the hardest I've played. Majora's Mask to me I guess could be "hard", but maybe that's not the right word, it's the most confusing. Even with the players guide I can't seem to ever make it to the first Temple... this is why I rarely play it.

Zelda 3 seemed especially hard when it was brand new. I never had many problems with "Zelda II".

I keep wanting to play it (part II). It sits on the shelf, collecting dust. I'm pretty damn impatient, though, and the dialog boxes when talking to villagers is painfully slooooow. I've heard it's pretty damn hard, not just on this forum.
I'm about ready to give Twilight Princess another shot. I enjoyed it for the most part, but it didn't hold my interest after awhile (spent about 8-10 hours on it). So, it's either going to be Zelda II or Twilight Princess in the near future. Either way, you can't go wrong. :)

Quoted for the truth.

Pulled out the original Legend of Zelda about a month ago, and was surprised to find that the battery in the cartridge (that's 23 years old) still saves the game!

Just finished part II over the weekend. Only took me 22 years to do that. :) I think, as an seven year old, I wasn't patient/mindful enough to level-up completely before the last castle. Not only is castle difficult when not at full strength, but the lava pits leading up to it are hard as well. In the modern context of it all, it's not that hard.
I'm with you on the dialog boxes though. UGH

I can't wait for the next Legend of Zelda for Wii. It should be really good, as always. I saw the April fools joke that IGN did last april fools. When you see it, you would say, "this is too good to be a hoax."

Yeah I saw this a while back and have wanted a live action movie ever since. I've seen the shit they can do with LOTR and Narnia and Harry Potter, they can do it and they can do it good. I don't understand why no ones stood up for it yet with all the hype we got from this IGN Pheaux trailer.
