Science Fiction Sequel Talk
Rumors about 'Men in Black III' and 'Blade Runner 2'
If they had their way, the folks at Amblin Entertainment would enjoy nothing more than to use that memory-scrubbing flash doohickey to make you forget all about Men in Black II.
"There's been some conversations, just recently actually, because I don't think we did the best possible job on the second one," producer Walter F. Parkes once told Cinema Confidential. "It would be great to pull the franchise back."
Apparently, now might be that time. A source close to Parkes tells Parade Magazine that Parkes is looking to get the gang back together for another round.
"The challenge is getting the script right and finding a time when our busy stars are available," the source says. "But everyone, including Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, wants to do another."
Those aren't the only Men making a possible comeback. Slash Film reports that Eagle Eye co-writer Travis Wright is developing a sequel to Blade Runner. The script is being written independently without any sort of studio involvement. At this point, Blade Runner 2 is a pet project without major backing, and is likely to be shut down faster than a blade runner dispatches a replicant. Which, on second thought, isn't necessarily that fast...
Potential Men in Black and Blade Runner sequels join the increasing list of follow-ups to long gestating franchises such as Ghostbusters and Tron, both of which announced development on new installments over the past few months.

It's been a very long time since I've seen the second film, but I recall leaving the theater and feeling mostly satisfied. The chick from The Practice wasn't as interesting a villain as the dude from Criminal Intent, but I certainly didn't hate the film as a result. I never even realize that the film was poorly received until tonight. :X
I won't have a problem with MiB 3 if they can get almost everyone back. And that including Frank the Pug & the worms. :D :D
Oh, Derek Mears (the new Jason) was in part 2 as Mosh Tendrills. And I admit part 2 wasn't that bad. Sure part 1 was better, but 2 was fine on it own & it's still quite entertaining. :)

I wouldn't mind a third MIB. I always liked the original but thought the second was only so-so, although the pug in it was hilarious.

I always looked at the MIB movies as basically a rip-off and amalgamation of Ghostbusters and the Blues Brothers. So much so poor Aykroyd should be able to sue without a chance in the world of losing.
Having said that, they seem to exist in the same critical vacuum as the two GB and BB movies; number one was a great movie, adored by kids and adults alike, and number two was apparently way too cheeseball, watered-down and goofy for it's own good.

I've only seen the first MIB & that was when it first came out. I thought it was really cool back then. I'd still probably enjoy it nowadays if I sat down & watched it.
Eh, I didn't really mind part 2. I thought Lara Flynn Boyle wasn't the greatest villan, but it wasn't bad nonetheless. I'd watch part 3, only if the original cast returned, though.

I loved part 1 and I am one of the ones that think part 2 didn't live up. Did they explain where the female agent went in part 2?
Yeah, I think in the beginning of MIB 2 Zed told J to stop neurolizing his partners. That's what happened.

I reckon it was less to do with not wanting to use the character and more to do with no one enjoying working with Linda Fiorentino the first time around. She has a pretty bad on-set reputation (which probably has more than a little to do with why she hasn't acted in a major motion picture since 2002).

Men in Black 3 is Moving Forward
Columbia Pictures has hired Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen to pen the script for Men in Black 3.
There are no deals yet in place for franchise director Barry Sonnenfeld and stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones to return.
The studio is looking to start filming the third installment in 2010, perhaps as early as the spring.
The first two films combined to earn nearly $1.1 billion worldwide.

Is Josh Brolin the New Man in Black?
The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Columbia Pictures is considering bringing on Josh Brolin for Men in Black 3.
Who he will play is not known:
He could play a new single-monikered government agent, with Tommy Lee Jones' Agent K passing the baton to Brolin's character. Or he could play Agent K as a young man. Or something else entirely.
Will Smith is expected to return for the third installment, written by Etan Cohen, but will Jones? Barry Sonnenfeld may also come back to direct.
Brolin's upcoming projects include Jonah Hex and Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps.

Smith and Jones Return for Men in Black 3D?
Showbiz 411's Roger Friedman reports he talked to director Barry Sonnenfeld, who revealed that Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are returning as agents J and K, respectively, in Sony's Men in Black 3D (yes, in 3D).
It was announced last October that Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen had been hired to write the script for the third installment.
The first film in the "Men in Black" franchise earned $587.8 million worldwide in 1997, and the second took in $441.8 million in 2002.

I loved watching Patrick Warburton in part 2 (though his role was brief). He's a funny guy.

Guys, seriously, why don't you just see it on a 2D screen?
I really can't wrap my head round the hate for photographing a film with 3D cameras. I get why people might not like a ton of 3D gags -- they can be pretty corny in 2D, as The Final Destination proves -- but a lot of these films aren't being shot like that anymore. They're just regular films that are photographed with 3D cameras.
The option to see these things in 2D will always be there.

Bloody Disgusting... (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/20132)
Deadline is reporting that Will Smith has officially signed on to star in Columbia Pictures' Men in Black 3D, which has been slated for release on May 25, 2012 (a year later than originally rumored). As previously reported, Barry Sonnenfeld returns to the franchise to direct with Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin in final talks. They also add that Rick Baker has been designing and building the creatures, Bo Welch has been designing the sets, and David Koepp has been polishing a script by Etan Cohen that got this whole thing started. The film will use a time travel element that moves the action from contemporary back to 1969. Brolin will play the younger version of Jones's Agent Kay character.

Part 2 had it's moments though. One in particular that sticks out:

Rick Baker Joins Men in Black III
Rick Baker, the legendary makeup artist behind films like Star Wars, An American Werewolf in London and Hellboy, confirmed his involvement in the third Men in Black film in an interview with the LA Times.
"I'm just starting up now Men in Black," Baker said, "which is another one I wanted to do because I worked on the first two."
Men in Black III is slated to hit theaters on May 25, 2012 with Barry Sonnenfeld returning to the director's chair, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones reprising their roles and Josh Brolin and Jemaine Clement also starring.

Alice Eve Joins 'Men In Black III' As Young Emma Thompson (http://www.deadline.com/2011/02/alice-eve-joins-men-in-black-iii-as-young-emma-thompson/)
When Men in Black III re-starts production next month, Alice Eve will play the younger version of Men in Black Agency head Emma Thompson in the time travel storyline. The British actress plays Olivia, hired as secretary for the Agency in 1969. While it appears she was given the job because of her looks, Olivia is actually whip smart. Sure enough, in the contemporary storyline, Thompson runs the place. Will Smith's Agent J character is forced to travel back in time to team up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save the world. Eve just completed production on The Decoy Bride and starred with John Cusack in The Raven. She's repped by Untitled, UTA and Artists Right Group. MIB III has extended a pre-planned holiday hiatus. With a skeleton staff in place, the filmmakers are taking extra time to hone the script. Director Barry Sonnenfeld has already assembled the footage shot so far, and insiders said that the film is still on track for its May 25, 2012 release by Sony Pictures.
Rewrites during shooting hiatus (http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=30307)
Good grief… We’re all familiar with tales of big movies that rumble intro production without a finished script, and while there are some that have gone on to be successful even after major tinkering (Apocalypse Now), the more script drafts that are required, the less likely the finished product will work well (Jonah Hex). Still, the production team behind Men in Black III are throwing caution to the wind and bringing on yet another writer. Though in this case, it’s more they’re bringing one back: David Koepp has been hired to do yet more polishing.
The long history of the third MIB outing starts with Tropic Thunder’s Etan Cohen, who finally cracked the concept and bashed out the shooting draft. David Koepp was brought in to spit-shine that original take as work began on the first half of the movie, which sees Will Smith's Agent J and Tommy Lee Jones' Agent K at work in the present day.
But then, after a planned production shutdown that was attributed to several things, including tax breaks, weather and the need to do a little more work on that troublesome script, the delay was lengthened so that Catch Me If You Can’s Jeff Nathanson could do yet more work, this time on the second half, which will see Agent J travelling back to 1969 and track down a young agent K (with Josh Brolin taking over for Jones) to save the world.
According to Deadline, the film is set to gear back up on March 28 and Koepp is now hard at work on yet another new draft. It’s enough to give us a nervous rash just thinking about it, so we can’t imagine what state self-proclaimed neurotic Barry Sonnenfeld is in right now.
Still, according to Sony, the director has assembled the footage he’s shot so far, and everyone seemed to like it, so keep those fingers crossed that it’ll turn out as much fun as the first film. And that we won’t want to turn the Neuralyzer on ourselves once we’ve watched the thing…

Well did they right the draft where J time travels to meet up with a younger K because they couldn't afford Tommy Lee? I don't know personally, but if that's the case and you can only afford one of the two actors, why not have Will and a new, more different partner tear up the streets of Earth?
