A review of Dario Argento's Sleepless (http://www.oh-the-horror.com/page.php?id=557)!

I remember really liking this one years ago. I can recall watching it and thinking "wow, he didn't fuck up for a change or make a movie about changing diapers, women's rights, cellos and fingernail polish".

Yeah, it's good. I dunno, it just loses me towards the end a little bit. I think that opening train scene is among the best he's ever directed for sure.

Well, the one twist with the midget is super fucking lame, that much is for certain.

Yeah, a prime example of Argento just throwing logic into the wind dere. You know he's going to do it at least once every movie. :X

That's why I never held it too much against him. I expect that at least once per giallo. It almost makes sense to do that when you think about it, considering otherwise grounded firmly in reality, they'd be more than a little plain.

'Course they could just whip down someone's pants and make a she a he.

Agree with the "Rent it" verdict. I remember liking the movie overall, but not how Von Sydow was used. The way he pieced things together seemed forced and a little absurd. As you pointed out Brett, Argento is known for odd leaps in logic in his storytelling, as well as wild coincidences; but it's too much of that and too little deduction on the part of the supposed legendary investigator.

It also is very lacking in style, but it definitely bears more of a signature than the films that have followed.
