This is by far my favorite John Cusak movie next to High Fidelity. I'm pretty sure you can't argue the fact that is the perfect film. From beginning to end it just has me. It makes me laugh, has a killer soundtrack, and it's just beyond films of it's times. In a generation where the majority of movies had fart humor, party animals, over-use of nudity, this movie came along and just slapped them in the face.
"Gee Ricky...I'm really sorry your Mom blew up."

I agree with that. This was like the less-obnoxious Napoleon Dynamite of the '80s. This was actually a favorite in my dorm house last year amongst me and the other guys. They had no idea that it even existed and on a routine re-stocking trip to Wal-Mart, I picked it up in the bargain bin and ended up watching it in the house foyer that night. Soon, just about everyone was speaking in the Asian racer Howard Cossell voice, spouting off "Lane Meyer. Strong words from a man who knows how to ski." That and constant "RICKY!!" yells. It was truly a phenomenon. This and One Crazy Summer were two of the best films of the '80s. Too bad John Cusack claimed to be ashamed of them on Fast Rewind.
And Diane Franklin was a way better actress/character than Amanda Wyss.

I love this film. I can remember watching this all the time in 1986-1989. John Cusak had perfect timming and deadpan humor. And it features one of my all time favorite lines.
"Somebody threw away a perfectly good white boy."
One of the best things was that it was so absurd, yet it was funny as hell.
