I started this thread in the old forum, and it pretty much died, but Shoesalesman inspired me to restart it to talk about IMO some of the greatest bands that ever lived from this beautiful land

I'm not a huge fan but I've always liked a few of Rush's songs. Songs like "Working Man", "Limelight", and "Tom Sawyer" I usually crank up when I'm driving.

I think I even have one of their greatest hits CD's in my collection.

Shoesalesman

Excellent thread, Fonz. :D

I was listening to the band Toronto earlier this morning. Your Daddy Don't Know and Girl's Night Out have to be my favorite songs from this band. I was doing some reading and I had no idea that they wrote the song What About Love, which was a huge song for Heart in the mid-80s.

I'm going through my old tapes... found an old Helix one. :bang:

CanadianFonzie
07-29-2007, 01:48 AM
yup I have that big album from Toronto, and I didn't know they wrote What About Love, tha's my favourite Heart song, not many people know that Heart is partly credited as a Canadian band, cause it was formed in both Seattle and Vancouver

and yes Helix, they are releasing a new album in September that I must pick up

Avril (however you spell her last name), smelly's fav artist:p, for a time was pretty hot. Especially around her wedding and the Olympics, now she is gone back to her grunge look a little.

Heavy Metal Love is a great song. Saw Helix in the late 80s.

CanadianFonzie
07-30-2007, 01:30 AM
I've seen them, and met them:p

Kat

Tragically Hip is where it is at for Canadian music :p

Any Hip fans on here?

Shoesalesman
07-30-2007, 01:35 AM
I've seen them, and met them:p

Damn Fonz, you're sooooo lucky.

Kat
07-30-2007, 01:38 AM
Helix was in my hometown a few weeks ago. Had the chance to get front row tickets but turned them down. I am kind of wishing I would have gone now.

CanadianFonzie
07-30-2007, 01:39 AM
I am the furthest thing from a Tragically Hip fan, lol

any April Wine fans here?

Shoesalesman
07-30-2007, 02:12 AM
Yep, right here. April Wine has so many classics that get radio play.

Can't say I like anything recent from The Hip. Everything up to and including Fully Completely is great. Road Apples is probably my fave album from them.

CanadianFonzie
07-30-2007, 02:14 AM
April Wine be my favourite Canadian band...Trooper's another great one with so many great songs, my favourite being Two For the Show

Shoesalesman
07-31-2007, 02:45 AM
April Wine be my favourite Canadian band...Trooper's another great one with so many great songs, my favourite being Two For the Show

Good call. I love that song.

Trooper is one of those bands that I remember hearing at my junior high school dances, over and over again. Trooper seems to be in town every few years, but I have yet to see them live. :(

CanadianFonzie
07-31-2007, 04:25 AM
I have never seen them nor have I met them, which is unfortunate because they are one of my favourites, who can forget especially their 3 main classics Raise A Little Hell, The Boys in the Bright White Sports Car and We're Here For A Good Time (Not A Long Time), the latter probably being my favourite out of the three

but other than Two For the Show, my favourite song by Trooper is definetally Oh, Pretty Lady

Shoesalesman
08-01-2007, 03:17 AM
Streetheart had a great cover tune with Under My Thumb. I think they came from Regina. I've always liked their songs. Aldo Nova's songs too, though I'm not too fond of Blood On The Bricks.

girlychaos
08-01-2007, 06:33 AM
Bryan Adams....one of my all time favorites...I think he's great!

Heart is pretty nice as well....I know it's only "half" Canadian....but well... :)

Shoesalesman
08-01-2007, 03:35 PM
Bryan Adams is cool, but I'm not too fond of his recent work.

Reckless was a masterpiece. One album I listen to religiously every Summer for days on end.

CanadianFonzie
08-01-2007, 11:35 PM
I've never relly liked Bryan Adams, I can listen to him, and he did some early writings with Prism before he was an artist, and he wrote some damn good songs with Prism, alot on their Armageddon album, a classic masterpiece

girlychaos
08-02-2007, 07:16 AM

I really like him, but yeah....I don't actually like his recent work either.

I'm trying to find 'Prakash John and The Lincolns' tour schedule for the Fall months. Prakash John is a Canadian bassist who did work with Lou Reed, Alice Cooper and the group BUSH in the 70s.

He and The Lincolns do regular shows in Ontario, but I haven't seen anything in Western Canada yet.

CanadianFonzie
08-12-2007, 11:37 PM
I bought Trooper's Two For the Show album today, up till now haven't heard anything by Trooper but their hits (Hot Shots) and the album that came after it, so I'm hoping it will be a good album, I haven't listened to it yet though

Kat
08-12-2007, 11:42 PM
I am pissed off, someone stole my Tragically Hip, In Violet Light CD. I'll have to buy another one.

CanadianFonzie
08-30-2007, 03:11 AM
I don't know how little of you know Coney Hatch, but I recently pulled out their Best of Three compilation and remembered how much I used to love them, I can't get enough of them lately, I've also been listening to my old records of theirs, what an amazing band, and what a great singer Carl Dixon is, he's touring the states with the Guess Who now...it's just too bad they only released 3 albums..but I was fortunate to meet them and see them live a few times, most notably once opening for Judas Priest in '82

Shoesalesman
08-30-2007, 03:24 AM
I've been listening to RUSH and Triumph lots in the car this week. Spellbound and Mind Games are fantastic songs. The Pass too.

CanadianFonzie
08-30-2007, 03:31 AM
man I hope it's true and Triumph will have a reunion, it would be great to see them again!

Shoesalesman
08-31-2007, 01:53 AM
I'd pay decent money to see them again in concert more than Van Halen. :p

CanadianFonzie
08-31-2007, 02:34 AM

Annihilator is a my favorite Canadian band. Very underrated thrash metal band. There is this Canadian Power Metal band, Sword. I want to buy their album, Metalized, but it's very rare and very expensive.

Shoesalesman
09-24-2007, 03:17 AM
I'm on a bit of a Helix kick this week.

I picked up two Metal compilations from Superstore and they have a song on each disc from them. I had to drag out their cassettes for the car stereo and now I'm just blastin' 'em this week.

Oh, and I'm bummed that Chilliwack only has a Winnipeg date thus far on ticketmaster. They're a Canuck band I MUST see before they stop touring.

CanadianFonzie
09-24-2007, 03:21 AM
Helix's new album is an album I'd buy for a certain price...not 17 bucks, which is what it's being sold for, having heard it on their website, it's not worth that much

Saga is having a couple of farewell shows, I'm thinkin' of seeing them, concidering tickets are like 20 bucks, even though I've never been huge on them...though they've got probably the best tallent out of most Canadian bands

Shoesalesman
09-24-2007, 06:20 PM
Saga's pretty cool. Sounds like a decent price for a farewell gig.

Now I read Chilliwack played a casino in Calgary in mid-August. I sure hope they can come out again sometime for a show in Edmonton. They last played a few years ago at REDS but I was out of town and missed the show. :(

CanadianFonzie
09-26-2007, 01:13 AM
Chilliwack are good guys, I met them with Kim Mitchell once, I can't remember where or when, lol, and I remember once hearing on Kim's radio station that he once met them and asked them about that acoustic guitar they used on "Fly at Night"...I think he was talking about that day that I was there, I remember thinking how cool it was that he mentioned that...yet he didn't mention me being there:(, lol

Shoesalesman
09-26-2007, 06:19 PM
I remember thinking how cool it was that he mentioned that...yet he didn't mention me being there:(, lol

I suppose it's like forgetting to mention the Sun when it comes to us humans surviving on this planet... we know it's vital, but it's so high up there we sometimes forget. :shy:

Or maybe he saw you playing the geetar nood and blocked you out from memory.

LOL

CanadianFonzie
09-27-2007, 01:29 AM
lol I wonder if Kim saw me when I saw him live opening for Def Leppard in mid-July...and I wonder if he recognized me, lol, these are the things that go through my head

Shoesalesman

I might get tickets for me and my son to see David Wilcox, Trooper, April Wine and Loverboy at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on November 22nd...it's some Grey Cup thing that they are holding for 3 nights, and the first night is that concert, and tickets are 35$ which is pretty good...I don't relly care for David Wilcox, even if he may be the sweetest apple on the tree, but I love Loverboy and I especially love Trooper and I DEFINETALLY love April Wine...really looking forward to this

Shoesalesman
10-01-2007, 03:47 AM
You guys in Ontario get all the great line ups. Though we usually get Trooper once every few years, we NEVER get a bill like what you're describing. Sounds like it'll be a good time.

CanadianFonzie
10-01-2007, 03:50 AM
well I'm just curious to see a concert at a convention centre, lol

Shoesalesman
10-02-2007, 03:27 AM
Fonz, I've never seen Wilcox. Have you seen him?

I hear he puts on a fabulous show, but I'm never around when he comes to town.

CanadianFonzie
10-02-2007, 03:31 AM
I'm not even a fan of his, I met him once pretending to like him...I felt bad about that...but I'm no ass so I wasn't gonna treat the guy badly just because I don't like his mucis, I just hope he is opening first, which I'm pretty sure, so that he can be done with and than I can enjoy Trooper, April Wine and Loverboy

Shoesalesman
10-02-2007, 03:33 AM
Interesting. I'd still see him if he was playing at a bar gig or something like that.

CanadianFonzie
10-02-2007, 03:34 AM
I remember listening to Kim Mitchells radio station and they were both performing Wilcox' song Bad Apple

Shoesalesman
10-03-2007, 03:31 AM
The only radio show I can find is Cooper's on K-Rock from midnight until 5am. I'd love to hear Kim's show.

10-03-2007, 07:17 PM
There have been quite a few really good Canadian bands that I've listened to over the years, but I'd say my favorites are probably Voivod and Thornley.

CanadianFonzie
10-04-2007, 02:33 AM
cool, I didn't know Voivod was Canadian...not that I like them, lol

The only radio show I can find is Cooper's on K-Rock from midnight until 5am. I'd love to hear Kim's show.

well it's a Toronto show, and if the station can't make it half way to Ottawa, it definetally can't make it to Edmonton, lol

Shoesalesman
10-05-2007, 01:53 AM
I figured as much. Because I KNOW my antena is definitely loooong enough. ;)

CanadianFonzie
10-12-2007, 01:23 AM
I just can't seem to get enough Max Webster today, I can't stop blasting Paradise Skies, Night Flights and Oh War!

Shoesalesman
10-12-2007, 06:01 PM
It seems the radio stations here in Edmonton play Max Webster or Kim Mitchell every third or fourth song. I ain't complaining though.

CanadianFonzie
10-13-2007, 05:59 AM
lol I wouldn't say that often, but I do hear a song by either about 4 or 5 times a week, and I too am not complaining

Shoesalesman
10-17-2007, 05:58 PM
During my upcoming trip to Toronto, I'm planning on seeing a musician by the name of Jordan John. He's the son of bassist Prakash John (of Lou Reed & Alice Cooper fame), and he plays some R&B/soul/blues material, just like his paps.

Not really an energy show like your traditional concert, but a more relaxed show and venue. A good ol' Canadian boy!

CanadianFonzie
10-24-2007, 01:58 AM
just bought Loverboy's new album, I'm about half way through, and it's pretty damn good

Shoesalesman
11-15-2007, 11:25 PM
Finally!!!! Chilliwack is playing some casino shows in Edmonton and Calgary in early February. That rocks!!! I've been pining for a concert from them all last year... and I'm finally going to see 'em!!!

BTW... Jordan John was awsome. Prakash was there too. Got some Coop vinyl and cassette inserts signed.

CanadianFonzie
11-16-2007, 06:32 PM
I never liked Tom Cochran & Red Rider, but I'm seeing them on February the 6th as they open for the great John Cougar Mellencamp

Shoesalesman
11-17-2007, 02:38 AM
I thought about getting tickets to the show you're referring to, Fonz. I like Mellencamp, but I'm not paying to sit through Cochran. If it was a better opening band, I'd go.

CanadianFonzie
11-18-2007, 03:56 AM
well anything to see Mellencamp is what I figure, but I guess you just ain't as big a fan as me, lol

Shoesalesman
12-04-2007, 05:17 PM
This year's been excellent to me for concerts: Heaven And Hell, Billy Joel, Willie Nelson...

Next year's first is Chilliwack. Great Canadian start to the concert season.

CanadianFonzie
12-04-2007, 11:22 PM
I didn't know you saw Sabbath as well...unless I forgot, great concert wasn't it? waaaaay better seats than when I saw them in '81...plus this time there wasn't a riot after the show, lol

Shoesalesman
12-05-2007, 03:40 AM
We got some great shows out West ever since Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones came out in the mid 90s. Too bad it's bringing shite like Celine Dion our way.

CanadianFonzie
12-05-2007, 03:42 AM
we've had some good concerts coming over here since...forever, lol, Bon Jovi just added a 4th date in March that I'm concidering going to...and to keep it Canadian...I'm still not looking forward to seeing Tom Cochran, lol

Shoesalesman
12-08-2007, 09:32 PM
Mad Mad World was a HUGE album when I went to college in the early-to-mid 90s. It had maybe two good songs on it, the rest got overplayed on the radio and pub crawls. The rest of Tom's catalog, while good musically, is not my bag, dig?

CanadianFonzie
12-09-2007, 03:18 AM
I would have to agree

I *might* be getting tickets to see Kim Mitchell with April Wine and Helix this February in Orangeville, the main reason I stress the "might" is because Orangeville isn't a short drive, lol

Chex
12-21-2007, 12:43 AM
I've been listening to some of Teagan and Sara as of late.

Joe Strummer
12-22-2007, 04:04 AM
I'm Canadian, but I don't listen to Canadian music much. Back in the day, I was really into Sloan tho, they were pretty damn good if you like the beatles and all that stuff. I liked them more than Oasis.

CanadianFonzie
12-22-2007, 04:26 AM
I recently bought 5 cd's at Music World, cause they're unfortunetally closing down and giving 40-60% off their prices, and 4 of the cd's were Canadian, Frozen Ghost (which I didn't care for that much), The Jeff Healey Band, Helix and Honeymoon Suite, the latter 2 being my favourite

Jeff Healey has always astounded me, I don't know if I've said this, but to play that amazing while being blind, I mean even for a guitarist that can see he plays at an above average rate

Shoesalesman
12-22-2007, 09:33 PM
Amen to that, Fonz.

CanadianFonzie
12-22-2007, 11:31 PM
I still haven't been to his new bar on Blue Jay Way, Healey's Road House, but that's where all the good bands play now, lol, I think I read that the movie Road House was inspired by watching him play in a bar (no surprise as they casted The Jeff Healey Band as the bar band in the movie)

CanadianFonzie
12-27-2007, 10:05 PM
went downtown yesterday to get some of those hard to find cd's that I just love to get, I got 8 and 2 are Canadian, they be Trooper's "Knock 'em Dead Kid" and Max Webster's "A Million Vacations"

Shoesalesman
01-09-2008, 01:08 AM
Chilliwack's Edmonton date is one month away!!!!! Rock on!!!!

CanadianFonzie
01-09-2008, 02:00 AM
I got two hand signed autographed posters of Rik Emmett...now I didn't get it signed in person but my sons former teacher knows him and it was him that got the autograph, and those posters will surely be framed...and with the posters I found out of a Triumph reunion which I'll surely be at

Kat

I have the chance to go see Prism in a few weeks. I might go but I haven't decided yet....

CanadianFonzie
01-10-2008, 12:57 AM
GO you're lucky, I've never seen them live but I've always wanted to, they're one of the bands from this great nation that I've never met yet I really wanted to...but GO, make me proud! lol

Shoesalesman
01-11-2008, 02:39 AM
Prism's always around our area... like Trooper. If you miss them, just wait a few months.

CanadianFonzie
01-11-2008, 03:03 AM
Trooper is like that here in Toronto, unfortunetally Prism isn't

Shoesalesman
01-13-2008, 07:11 PM
I'd like to see a triple bill of Prism, April Wine, Trooper. That would be a night of ROCK!!!!

Yeah, I have been thinking about it. 5 bucks for a front row ticket :D

CanadianFonzie

Shoesalesman
01-25-2008, 02:51 AM
Prism and Harlequin are playing the Century Casino in mid-March. Tickets go on sale tomorrow (not sure how much they are). I was going to grab tickets, but Ace Frehley's playing the Edmonton Events Center on March 15th for $35.00 a ticket. Gotta see Ace.

CanadianFonzie
01-25-2008, 02:58 AM
lol Harlequin is still around, I didn't know that

I would see Ace too, just because you always know Prism and Harlequin will be back before Ace is

Shoesalesman
01-26-2008, 01:16 AM
Good point, Fonz. And that's why I'm choosing to see him rather than the other two bands.

Shoesalesman
02-07-2008, 02:50 AM
Two more days until the Chilliwack show. Never been to a casino show before, so it'll be interesting. I'm PUMPED!!!!!

CanadianFonzie
02-07-2008, 05:57 PM
I was really impressed with Tom Cochrans performance last night, I got there a little late unfortunetally, but he put on a pretty good show

Shoesalesman
02-08-2008, 01:10 AM
Lee Aaron is playing the Century Casino too, I think later on in the month (?) maybe. Long live the Metal Queen!!! However, I think she's doing some funky jazz music now. I saw her in '91 in support of her Some Girls Do album. And yes, I was glad she did.

alicefan696
02-08-2008, 03:39 PM
yeah, Rush is a good band, didn't really get into them into recently, they got some good tunes out, Working Man, Subdivisions and Tom Sawyer are some of my fav.

Shoesalesman
02-08-2008, 04:48 PM
I saw RUSH in '89 on the Presto tour. They were fantastic; the drum solo was beyond anything I'd seen or heard before.

CanadianFonzie
02-09-2008, 01:31 PM
Rush has never been a band I'd wanna see live, I remember on the Trailer Park Boys movie (I think it was the movie) how they were comparing Rush to Helix as a live band, they were right cause Rush is just too mellow and stuff to watch while I normally go for the fun running around party crowd

Shoesalesman
02-09-2008, 06:49 PM
Chilliwack was AWSOME last night!!!

They played all the hits and only two or three newer tunes. Nothing bugs me more than older bands that only do two or three hits and plaster the audience with 80% new, unknown shit. We came to here My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone), Fly At Night, California Girl, Crazy Talk, Baby Blue, Watcha Gonna Do, The Arms Of Mary... and they were all there.

I saw soooo many cougars last night that I had to have one hand on my junk in order to keep it from suddenly being ripped off.

I give the show a 9/10.

alicefan696
02-10-2008, 12:34 AM

CanadianFonzie
02-12-2008, 06:40 PM
Rush doesn't have any albums on the board:p

any good Canadian band never does that

Shoesalesman
02-13-2008, 04:16 AM
RUSH is playing at Rexall Place in Edmonton in late May, I think. Depending on ticket prices I may check 'em out again.

alicefan696
02-14-2008, 05:51 PM
yeah, if I lived pretty close to where they are playing I would prob. check them out too!

CanadianFonzie
02-14-2008, 08:18 PM
I don't know Shoey, they're pretty expensive tickets, this is my personal opinion, but for ticket prices to be that much it has to be a band that can actually put on a good show rather than just play good songs on stage

but it is really cool about Rush, I mean one day you're seeing them live in a club and they're so close to you that you can touch them, next thing you know they're selling out at Maple Leaf Gardens

Shoesalesman
02-15-2008, 12:34 AM
I think tickets for RUSH are $50.00 here, for upper-seating. I could be wrong.

CanadianFonzie
02-15-2008, 12:41 AM
okay if you don't mind the shit seats than I guess that's okay

Shoesalesman
02-16-2008, 02:50 AM
The way Rexall Place is set up, every seat is a pretty good one. Watched Billy Joel, The Who, Willie Nelson from the nosebleeds and I saw just fine. I'll only go for the floor if it's Coop or maybe Merle Haggard.

CanadianFonzie
02-18-2008, 03:01 PM
a Canadian band I've just recently really gotten into is Harem Scarem, I heard their debut album back in the early 90's and I thought it was great but I never really followed them, but I got their "Early Years" cd and wow what great musicians, Harry Hess truly has one of the greatest voices

Lee Aaron set to rock again!

Rock is always the best over any kind of music

Mostly agree. There are times when I'm hankerin' for some country or maybe big band showtunes. Fortunately, there isn't much for Canadian quality content for either. No offence to those who love Canadian country and big band music.

alicefan696
02-20-2008, 01:17 AM
yeah, some Johnny Cash is alright, but I don't like any other country really

Yeah, Canadian country music isn't that great IMHO, we have like Terri Clark, Emerson Drive and maybe Shania Twain, those are the only 'big' Canadian country stars I can think of off the top of my head.

I am honestly surprised that the Tragically Hip never got big in the US, like Nickelback did....

CanadianFonzie
02-22-2008, 12:10 AM
they didn't? I mean they are huge here, I always hear them on the radio...even though I really don't like them

Shoesalesman
02-24-2008, 01:01 AM
Not a Hip fan these days. The Hip's recent stuff (the albums of the last ten years) is a let down. Road Apples is my favorite, if I was forced to choose one.

I have never liked one song by them

a band I'm not ashamed to admit I like that I recently bought a compilation from (if anyone remembers them) is Platinum Blonde, I forgot how great their music is, especially their second album, Lost In Space is a hell of a fucking great song

Platinum Blonde had a few good songs.

the cool thing is they're from around here, I work with a few people who went to school with the members

Lee Aaron performed last night here in Edmonton. I didn't go, but they interviewed her on K97 and she sounded all sweet and pure. Sigh!

she doesn't seem like that from her early stuff, lol, but I never really did find her attractive

I feel like I've lost a friend, I read the newspaper article today and I started crying, I don't remember crying over a passing musician since Steve Clark's passing in January of '91. I have met Jeff on many occasions through my career and would play at his bar atleast once a year from the mid-90's-the year 2000, and since he opened his new bar 2 or so years ago I've been meaning to go in and see if he remembers me and to say hi but I for some reason never got around to it, and it just kills me that I can't see him again, I have to find out information on his funeral

again, I feel I've lost a friend and there is no worse feeling that I could feel right now

what is everyone's fav. Rush album on the board? My favorite Rush album would be 2112 by default because it's the only Rush full length album I own (besides Spirit of Radio which is just a best of). It is great, though.
ADDED:
Rush has never been a band I'd wanna see live, I remember on the Trailer Park Boys movie (I think it was the movie) how they were comparing Rush to Helix as a live band, they were right cause Rush is just too mellow and stuff to watch while I normally go for the fun running around party crowd It depends on the song. Some Rush songs are mellow and some are really hard rocking (for example Working Man).

I know just watching a trio standing and playing their instruments is different than seeing a 4 or 5 piece band running about the stage doing their antics, Alex Lifeson is the type of guitarist that would just stand there and play, I mean plenty of bands are like that, including Canadian ones, but something about Rush live is just so unappealing to me

I feel like reviving this thread for the hell of it

a band I don't think I mentioned is Barenaked Ladies, yes they are different but having grown up in the 90's they are an important band to me with ALOT of memories behind ALOT of their songs

Triumph is another awesome band from Canada.

Another one of Canada’s greatest classic rock bands is Triumph, which was formed in Toronto, Ontario in 1975 but some articles claimed the band was formed in Mississauga. This band has been compared to Rush over the years but Triumph has a style of its own. This band is probably best known for their number 1 hit single “Rocky Mountain Way” in 1978 but has made many other hit singles and albums. The band was mainly popular in the 80’s around the same time of Rush and other popular Canadian music artists. Through the long career of the band they have manage to record 18 albums, 4 of them went gold while one went platinum, released over 20 hit singles and won many different awards. Rumours has it that the band is gearing up for a full-scale world tour somewhere in 2009, so if your fan keep your eyes open.

I remember you like Triumph Scott, didn't know you like April Wine though, they are my favourite Canadian band, saw them live last October, great show, very intimate, Myles was talking to the crowd and the crowd was talking back to him, it was like he was a friend on stage

as for Triumph, I've said it alot how my teacher in grade 9 grew up with him, and he got me and autographed picture that says "to Phil" which is awesome, would have loved to meet him but never got around to asking my teacher that favour lol, my favourite Triumph album howevr is The Sport or Kings, I have this thing for songs that you can play while you are driving at night time that just fit the night perfectly, and that album is practically all songs like that, Don't Love Anybody Else But Me is in like my top 3 favourite songs by them

BUT I say the best song to ever come out of this country is Deep Cuts The Knife by Helix

wonder how long it's gonna take someone to read this post haha

There are a few bands that I have enjoyed immensely over the last couple of years:

FM (Cameron Hawkins); I'm not sure if they really rose to fame in Canada or not, but they're heavy metal music is great! They were featured in the 1982 horror film 'Incubus' with John Cassavetes and John Ireland.

Nickleback; can't really go wrong with them since they're pretty famous worldwide, and some of their songs are on my guilty pleasure list I suppose.

Secret and Whisper; They're more of a slight emo rock band from British Columbia, but the lead singer has a very atmospheric voice, and they have some pretty awesome songs.

Star Field; okay even though they are a positive alternative rock band from Winnepeg, Manitoba, I've heard some of their music on a few stations here in Los Angeles, and they're not that bad.
