Ten years ago today, The Blair Witch Project opened wide in theaters across America to massive amounts of hype. How has the past ten years treated the film in my opinion? Check out the review here (http://www.oh-the-horror.com/page.php?id=529) to find out.

This is one of the few horror movies that ever made it to theatres here and I was there on the first night with my cousin. I left a happy camper, but I wasn't bitten by the viral campaign or anything like that. I kept hearing about the movie and loved the poster, and that was all I needed to go check it out. I remember thinking about the obscene profits to be had after a film with no budget made it up to $140 million. Most of the people I knew were disappointed by it, but I can't say that I didn't realize when I was watching it that there was no way the idiots in the audience were going to eat this up. But, there always was the odd young person who got it and dug it. Style wise as sort of horror neo-realism, I'm amazed it got as far as it did.
Looking back, I find it ironic that I loved the poster (and movie) parts with the creepy white trees amidst the blackness and how it's a bit like the early silent movies that I now enjoy and that it was a sort of gateway into the visually astray horror films that I tend to gravitate towards in the last 5 or 6 years. I'll admit to needing a revisit, but I've seen it three or four times over the years and always enjoyed it.

I haven't seen it since it came out on VHS so I barely remember anything about it. I did enjoy it then, however. I'm sure I'd still think of it as decent today but I'm not really compelled to go out & watch it any time soon.

Not to derail the topic, but it's kinda weird that notti's avatar is the exact same one with the exact same thing above it that reviewer Tyler B. uses on other forums. I thought it was him for a minute haha.

I stole that shit from HorrorDVDs.com's review of the Lionsgate Martin DVD. :D
I used to have a shitload of Martin screencaps on my computer until it took a shit on me months ago.

Yeah, I never hated it (or even disliked it ) like so many people did after they saw it (hell, I was reading about it the other day and it won the Razzie for worst picture that year), but I think the hype got me a bit too much. I can remember coming out and thinking "what the FUCK was that?!" I knew there was some good stuff there, but it just didn't click. Back then, I probably would have given it a 6.5/10, now it's easily a 7.5, and probably an 8. It's weird because I can remember not liking the fact that we never got a straight answer as to what the Blair Witch actually is, but I really loved the ending.

I changed my avatar to cut down on all the confusion.
