I just rented seasons 1-2 from Tales from the Crypt, watching thru first 5 episodes (I'll watch the sixth and last from season 1 later).

The crypt keeper cracks me up almost every time... LOL

Yeah nudity and cursing are on!

I love Tales From The Crypt.

I have Season 1 and a crapload of the VHS tapes.

Great show. Definitely the best horror TV show. (Freddy's Nightmares comes in second ;))

I miss this show when it came on on saturday nights on Fox. I know HBO showed them but Fox picked them up and showed them.

My 2 favorite were the Christmas one where the insane guy tries to break into this house and the little girl let him in and the other is the one where Demi Moore guest stared in it and married that fat guy in order to get his wealth.

Yeah, those ones from season 1 and 2.. Also Teri Hatcher starring, she was so much hotter in those days. Also a cameo by Arnold (where an old geezer spends all his money to get a girl and buys body parts from another guy).

I finally got Season 6.

The standouts this time for me were Only Skin Deep and Surprise Party. Both great episodes IMO.

This was one of my favorite shows. I would never miss an episode.

I've only got the first three seasons on dvd, I need to buy the rest.

Take care and God bless.

"And All Through the House" is a favorite of mine. I even enjoyed its original take in the British film "Tales from the Crypt" with Joan Collins. This tale is probably better known as "the Demented Santa Claus" episode.

This is my favourite television show of all-time. I can't emphasize how much I love TFTC. I own all 7 seasons & am glad that I do because now I can watch it whenever I wish. My favourite episode is "House of Horror" from season 5 with Kevin Dillon & Meredith Salenger(huge crush of mine going back to when I was a boy). I also really like "Report From the Grave" from season 7.

Did anyone ever watch it on Sci-Fi channel when they'd show it for four hours every Wednesday night? I was glued to the television every Wednesday. Too bad the episodes were cut for TV but hey, it was still Tales From the Crypt.

I love Tales From The Crypt. Seasons 1, 2, and most of Season 3 are great. I think the show started going downhill in Season 3. There are only a handful of good episodes from Seasons 4, 5, 6, and 7, IMO.

Favorite Episodes:

All Through The House
Cutting Cards
Korman's Kalamity
Abra Cadaver
Undertaking Parlor
Lover Come Hack To Me
Television Terror
Surprise Party
Only Skin Deep

Tales from the Crypt is great. I have all 7 seasons and the three films. I was kind of disappointed with most of Season 7 but did like "Report From the Grave" after a second viewing. Seasons 2 and 3 probably were my favorites.

Tales from the Crypt is one of my all-time favorite shows. IMO, Seasons 1 & 2 were the best.

If I had to pick an all-time favorite episode, i'd probably say Television Terror is mine. :)

I finally got around to watching all of Season 6, and it was pretty solid for the most part IMO. My favorite episodes were Comes The Dawn, Doctor Of Horror, Surprise Party and Staired In Horror. Most of the others are solid, but there are a few misfires. I'd say Season 6 is better than Season 4 (which was decent but had a lot of episodes there were either filler or average), but not as good as Seasons 2, 3 and 5. It's kind of hard for me to say whether or not it's superior to Season 1, which is short but the first three episodes of Season 1 are total classics that have stood the test of time.

I'll tackle Season 7 next.

Jigsaw

Finished with Season 7, definitely the weakest season by a long shot IMO. Some of the episodes were good but most were either mediocre or awful. My favorite episodes from Season 7 were The Third Pig, Escape, Cold War, A Slight Case Of Murder, The Kidnapper and Horror In The Night. The rest of the episodes I either didn't care for or hated.

Also, I think I take back my earlier post on Season 6, in retrospect it was a pretty weak season, though it had some good episodes, but not too many that stood out IMO. I'd say my favorite TFTC seasons in order would be:

2
5
3
1
4
6
7

Despite Seasons 4, 6 and 7 not being on par with the others, I still love the series as a whole and it's my all-time favorite show. It'll never be topped.

I found Season 7 to be the weakest season also. I only cared really for two episodes, "Report from the Grave" and "About Face".

Jigsaw
03-02-2008, 11:04 AM
I thought RFTG started out good but got silly and goofy after that, and About Face was kind of boring but had a good twist. I have to say though that Season 7 had some of the coolest and funniest Crypt Keeper segments, especially the military ones in Escape and The Godfather spoof (forgot which episode had that one).

03-02-2008, 05:37 PM
I agree about 7 being the weakest season but it had its moments. Report From the Grave is my favourite episode by far. That episode would almost make my top 5 of the series. I'd really have to sit & think about what other episodes would make that list because I love so many of them.

My list is just about the same as yours Jigsaw, but I'd have to throw As Ye Sow, All Through The House and You, Murderer into the mix.

With special mentions to the goofy episodes What's Cookin' and Fitting Punishment.

Jigsaw
03-02-2008, 08:37 PM
Fitting Punishment is in my top ten. That one is always a good watch. The other ones you mentioned are good, too.

Other episodes I love are The Third Pig, Strung Along, The New Arrival, Mournin' Mess and The Man Who Was Death. God, I love this show. Everyone once in a while, I like to set two weeks aside and watch every episode and season in order. I have to do that one day now that all seven seasons and all 93 episodes are available on DVD.

Although I don't like some episodes as much as others, there's very few episodes I outright dislike or hate. The only ones I can recall hating are Lover Come Hack To Me, The Sacrifice and Ear Today, Gone Tomorrow. Rare to have a series that's consistantly solid in that regard.

Those were the days. I remember when Fox showed them really late. Some great times watching this show when I was a kid. I'm glad that I own all seven seasons on DVD.

The first episodes I ever saw were Werewolf Concerto with Timothy Dalton, Beverly D'Angelo, & Reginald Vel Johnson & What's Cookin' with the late great Christopher Reeve, Bess Armstrong, Judd Nelson, Meat Loaf, & Art "Ribbed" LaFleur.

nottidelterrore
03-03-2008, 03:00 AM
I'd say that episode is about average. I don't really hate it but it wasn't anything great either.

I thought The Pit was dumb. I like martial arts & stuff but it seemed like a filler TFTC episode to me. If it would've been a part of something else, I wouldn't have minded it too much.

Jigsaw
03-03-2008, 03:04 AM
Season 6 as a whole felt rushed to me and it lacked the creativity and passion that went Seasons 1-3 and 5, even 4. It wasn't horrible, but definitely a stepdown IMO. The Crypt Keeper segments were excellent, though. I like the intro to Staired In Horror where he gives that poem.

MaDMaNMaRz
03-18-2008, 11:34 PM
I still only have Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD. I need to pick up the other ones. I also recently picked up a VHS that has "Werewolf Concerto", "Split Second", and "This'll Kill Ya".

Season 2 has always been my favorite, followed by 1. My least favorite is 7, but I still enjoy it overall.

Some of my favorite episodes:

Television Terror
And All Through the House
House of Horror
Korman's Kalamity
Four-Sided Triangle
Werewolf Concerto
Creep Course
Came the Dawn
The Trap

I've been to a few Best Buy's and an FYE, and they all seemed to only have Seasons 2, 6, and 7. I'm going to have to pick 3-7 soon.

Jigsaw
03-18-2008, 11:40 PM
Season 2 is easily my favorite TFTC season, it has so many classic TFTC episodes and a nice variety to boot. Season 5 is also great and probably the classiest season overall, and Season 3 is another solid season. Season 1 is great despite it's shortness, and Seasons 4 and 6 are tolerable but have a lot of weak episodes that sort of hamper the seasons as a whole. Season 7 was very weak for the most part with the exception of a few standouts.

MaDMaNMaRz
03-18-2008, 11:54 PM
Yeah, despite it being really short, Season 1 was great. All 6 episodes were great IMO.

Which is your least favorite episode? Mine would have to be Let the Punishment Fit the Crime. I never liked that episode at all.

Jigsaw
03-18-2008, 11:57 PM
There's a few stinkers from the series, but Ear Today, Gone Tomorrow has to be at the very top IMO. That episode is just awful. The only thing enjoyable about it is Richard Johnson's role (he was Dr. Menard in Zombie).

The first three episodes of Season 1 are classic and among the best of the series, while Only Sin Deep and Collection Completed are decent. Lover Come Hack To Me is the only bad episode of Season 1 IMO.

I hope a special feature disc or two covering the entire series is released eventually, like with Halloween: 25 Years Of Terror. Such a successful show and the DVDs seem to have sold very well, yet Warner added almost nothing in terms of special features.

About the episode "House of Horror". I remember every episode I ever watched originally, but I don't remember this one. I can't imagine not watching this one originally. I wasn't into the show nearly as much by season 5, but if the preview looked really good, I probably watched. This one was aired close to Halloween, and I'm sure the previews would've looked fun. I just can't imagine missing this one. I also can't imagine totally forgetting it.

It just bugs me that I can't remember.

New 'Tales From The Crypt' Series (http://www.deadline.com/2011/07/new-tales-from-the-crypt-series-in-the-works/)

Fifteen years after horror anthology Tales from the Crypt ended its seven-year-run on HBO, a new TV series based on the popular and controversial 1950s EC Comics anthology is in the works with Gil Adler, producer on the HBO Crypt series, and Andrew Cosby, co-creator of Syfy hit Eureka and co-founder of comic book publisher BOOM! Studios.

The new hourlong series will neither be anthological nor related to the HBO show. "It will be an ongoing series that uses characters from the comic books in a more modern context," Cosby said. "It's all about continually elevating the genre, for both existing fans of the source material and mainstream audiences."

Cosby and Adler first started discussing reviving the franchise on TV and then approached Joel Eisenberg, whose company with Timothy Owens EMO Films had partnered with William M. Gaines Agent, Inc., the rightsholder of all EC-related properties, which is run by he late Crypt creator Gaines' daughter Cathy Gaines Mifsud, to exploit those properties. After a lengthy legal process to make sure that all rights have been properly secured, the TV series project is now moving forward with William M. Gaines Agent and EMO on board. Producing are Adler, Cosby and Steven Sawalich of Articulus Entertainment. Eisenberg will executive produce, while William Gaines' grandson Corey Mifsud will be credited as associate producer.

A detailed pitch and a bible for the new Crypt series have been completed, with producers expected to take the project out shortly. It will be pitched to broadcast networks as part of the current development cycle as well as to cable outlets. (There had been some rumblings about potential interest from HBO sister channel Cinemax, which has returned to original programming.) The producers are considering both a traditional network model and non-traditional route for the project, including fully financing the series, probably as an international co-production, before taking it to U.S. nets.

I was so excited until I hit the part where it's not an anthology series, and now I'm nothing but confused.

"Ongoing series that uses characters from the original comics in a more modern context..." now I'm usually open minded and never say this about a new reboot or relaunch, but I'll say it now...

it really sounds like they have never read a single issue of the original comics, nor saw a single episode of the original TV series.

One of the guys putting it together was a producer on the TV series.

Then how on earth is it moving in this direction? I just do not get this. At all. Unless the show is an "I'm With Busey" styled look into the Crypt Keeper's off-screen life.

Probably going to pass on this. I'd rather it be an anthology with modern takes on the old stories and maybe a few updates of previous episodes of the original series.

Oh well. At least I still own all seven seasons of the original on DVD. I need to revisit them soon. Been years since I went through the entire series.

I wonder exactly what characters they are talking about. The hosts like CK,OW & VK or the characters from the stories they're telling? Or both? If so, I am not sure how on earth they are going to make that work without the anthology aspect.

Started watching season one the other night and for it being such a short season, it's pretty damn solid.

I wonder if Niles Talbot is Death, who later hangs with Crypty in the season six episode "The Assassin." I know he's Death in Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey so maybe it's a nod to that...or both.
