Some of you might remember that on the previous forum I started a thread about the film Vidocq (http://www.amazon.com/Vidocq-Original-Version-English-Subtitles/dp/B000277SCY/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/105-3578695-9773239?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1185514668&sr=8-2). I came across the music video for the film's ending theme and through that took an interest in seeing this film. At the time there had not been a United States release, although the film could be purchased from Canada in its original French language with English subtitles.
Well, I'm about to have to repurchase it, as it has finally gotten an official American release, under the title Dark Portals: The Chronicles of Vidocq (http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Portals-Chronicles-G%C3%A9rard-Depardieu/dp/B000JJ4DB4/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/105-3578695-9773239?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1185514668&sr=8-1).

The film stars Gerard Depardieu as Vidocq, and follows his battles with the mysterious Alchemist.
I thought it was a nice little horror/sci-fi film, and I was glad to own a copy. But now the film has been released in America -- with an English dub (!) -- I want to repurchase it to say my collection is complete. I'm also hoping the special features present on the Canadian disc will appear on the USA version, but with English subtitles. There were no subtitles present for the French language special features on the Canadian disc.
Here (http://www.bumscorner.com/bumnuke/index.php?module=ProdReviews&func=showcontent&id=612) is a review that pretty accurately sums up how I feel about the film. It's a bit spoilery about the first 2/3 of the film, though.
This is one of those films that desperately needs a sequel. It's too bad Gerard is retired, although another film about the Alchemist would not go amiss.
Anyone else seen this film?
