Ozzfest/Freefest 2007

We all know this year's Ozzfest 2007 was made to be FREE this year.

I got 6 tickets but ended up not going but was able to give those away to people who did end up going. HOWEVER, the last minute they announced that EVERYONE will be let in wether they had a ticket or not.

Also, the thing they weren't telling people till like the day before or day of the event is the venue is charging for parking. We just got word last night that they were charging $20 PER CAR! for today's Ozzfest. Later in the afternoon they then announced no one will be turned away, come in, pay for parking, walk up, your in.

So if Ozzfest still hasn't rolled into your town and you didn't get ticket's I would just plan to go anyways if you were wanting to, however be prepaired to pay for parking. They did announce that this is EVERYWHERE. So it doesn't matter the income level every venue was charging $20 for parking. I don't know if they also jacked up concession prices as well? Even the news hit this story today (ours Albuquerque's was today) and alot of people made valid points about this event supposed to be FREE but now having to pay for parking, people selling tickets off of ebay, at the site... What was the whole point?

It might not of been a big deal if I went because we had about 6-7 people going to come in my van and everyone pitch in but while getting ready this morning for work I finally decided fuck it I wasn't going to go for just 1-2 bands and get rained on, be out all night, and then still had to go to work the next day.

Has anyone gone? If so what was this years experiance compared to the past's Ozzfests?

I think OzzFest has run its course. Every year, it gets worse in some way. Whether it's crappier bands (ahem...Crazy Town?), screwed up promotions (FreeFest), or bullshit prices, it becomes more and more lame. This is because Sharon Osbourne is full of shit, and doesn't care about the fans or the music, she cares about the cash. She only cares about what's best for her husband, and if anyone fucks with that, she fucks with them. So childish. Case in point, the bullshit she pulled on Iron Maiden two years ago was crap! If you have a personal beef with someone, keep it backstage. Don't fuck up the concert for every paying fan out there. If they paid $50-80 to get into OzzFest, you had best let them enjoy the concert fully, not shut down the sound system during a band's set.

Also, Ozzy is physically incapable of putting on a worthwhile show. He cannot PERFORM anymore. He hasn't written a decent song in 15 years, and Zakk Wylde is really carrying his ass. While I've gotten tired of Wylde, if Ozzy got someone else that wasn't as dynamic or flashy, he wouldn't have an album. You might disagree, but I haven't seen or heard anything of value from Ozzy since the early 90s. The best parts of the last OzzFest I went to were Judas Priest & Slayer. Bands that can still put on a show, not go hopping in front of a micorphone and spraying water on the first three rows for two hours (that's providing Ozzy doesn't collapse before then). If the man is too broken down or unhealthy to be able to put on a worthwhile performance, he should just stop touring. When you put your hard earned money down for a ticket, you want the biggest, best, most bad ass show possible. Ozzy is just hunched over the microphone all night, and even then, his voice isn't as fantastic as it used to be. Beyond that, his entire 'Prince of Darkness' persona has been obliterated for years now. I just don't like seeing someone who has built up this legacy of music and legendary status, and burn out before our eyes. Wouldn't you rather have him go out on a high note, like The Police did, than to go on making substandard music, and putting on less dynamic shows? You might not agree with this, but that's how I see it. Once Ozzy just absolutely can't do it anymore (after he probably collapses on stage), OzzFest will die (unless Sharon wants to keep milking it for more cash).

I went to Ozzfest 2000 & thought it was absolutely terrible. I'm glad my ticket was free.

Ozzfest 04 was badass, if only to see Sabbath, Slayer and Superjoint. I was happy to get to go, but I'll probably never go again. This year seems to be a one time deal? I think in Texas maybe....Witchcraft and Soilent Green are supposed to play so it might be alright.

I just read that Rigor Mortis are going to be at this years Ozzfest! They are OLD SCHOOL thrash. They only released one full length, but it's pretty good.
