Who does everyone think the most powerful Jedi/Sith are in the Star Wars Universe? My top 5 goes like this.

1. Yoda
2. Luke Skywalker
3. Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader
4. Mace Windu
5. Emperor Palpatine

I put Mace above Palpatine because I thought he had him beat in ROTS until Anakin interfered...

That's if you believe that Palpatine wasn't throwing the fight, to make Anakin side with him.

Yeah that could have been it. But it seemed Mace may have had him beat before Anakin showed up. Unless of course Palpatine felt his presence, which is very likely.

Going by the film, it's hard to say. I believe that Mace got off a lucky kick which Palpatine didn't see coming. But with Anakin coming in, he then chose to fake being weak.

going by the movies and books I would have to say Luke, because he's a master of both sides really and it appears as he walks a very thin line in some of the books and alot of people in the new republic fear how much power Luke actually has

Wow I'm surprised no one has mentioned Obi-Won Kenobi, after all he did teach Anakin and Luke everything he knows.

True, but you can also look at it this way. He let Anakin slip to the dark side. He also didn't teach Luke all that much. He got more of his Jedi training from Yoda.

By the way, I do put Obi-Wan not far out of my top 5. I'm just saying that these could be things holding him back from being considered up there with those others.

I do however think Obi-Wan is one of the smartest, behind Yoda and Qui-Gon.

He also defeated Anakin in a fair fight.

Here are my picks:

1. Yoda
2. Emperor Palpatine
4. Mace Windu
3. Obi-Wan
5. Luke Skywalker

I never really considered Anakin/Darth Vader all that powerful, at least not compared to the list above. Considering Palpatine manipulated him pretty easily. Luke held his own for most of the fight in TESB and kicked his butt pretty good in ROTJ. Obi-Wan came damn close to killing him in ROTS and I feel Mace could've held his own if given the chance. Darth Vader only seemed to be incredibly powerful because it was just him and Palpatine between the events of Star Wars and ROTJ.

Mace and Obi-Wan could almost go back and forth on that list. Although I do feel Mace held his own against Palps I believe Palpatine made it look as though he was defeated to sway Anakin. I don't believe Obi-Wan would've done any better against Palpatine because remember, Yoda insisted on taking on Palpatine because he felt Obi-Wan was not powerful enough to defeat him.

Wow, I feel uber-geeky right about now. :)
