Well, the seventh and final issue of The Gunslinger Born is set to release on August 1st.

I'm a little bit behind -- I've picked up issues 5 and 6, but I've not read them yet. I'm going to wait for issue 7 and read them all at once.
The series is meant to continue past the end of The Gunslinger Born. There are supposed to be four additional arcs, six issues each, comprising 31 issues in total. I'm wondering if the first issue of the next arc will be out in September, or if there will be a break between arcs? I've not seen any word one way or the other thus far.
I've just read that issue number 4 sold out and was reprinted with a different cover...and I prefer the reprinted cover to the original! Wish I could have picked that one up.

That second printing has a fantastic cover, may have to pick that up. I hate it when I end up buying multiple covers. http://www.marvel.com/news/comicstories.829.Dark_Tower_Cover_Gallery <---must have them all :(
The TPB can be preordered from amazon.com and is out in November. Plus, out on August 1st is this:

The comics have been fanatatsic, and so has the first book (when I find time to read it- they just got under the mountain).

With you reading The Gunslinger Born before Wizards and Glass, you're going to know damn near everything that happens in that book. :X
I'm hoping to pick up The Gunslinger's Guidebook in August.

Heh, actually I read Wizard and Glass about 8 years ago :D It came free when I bought some other book so I gave it a whirl. I've always meant to get round to buying the rest.
And just cos I'm an extra-specially nice guy:
The release date and name for the enxt comic art is in issue 7 of Gunslinger Born, according to http://www.liljas-library.com/showreview.php?id=149

Within the past 3 weeks or so, I've read the first 4 books. While Wizard and Glass was a bit of a dry read, it was okay. I'll be expanding to the last 3 this week after taking some time off to read the Harry Potter book. I should pick up these comics.

I found the comics to be alright, nothing more nothing less. They don't tell me anything I haven't already learned from reading Wizard and Glass, but I suppose it's good way for new readers to jump into the whole storyline. One thing I have really enjoyed though are all the histories, and write ups given at the end of each book.

The short stories by Robin Furth make the comics worth it if you've already read Wizards and Glass. They're quite good.
The next arc is meant to be original material. Apparently, the only arc that will tell us what we already know from the books is this first one. Issue eight onwards is supposed to fill in the blanks about what went on in Roland's life between this event and Jericho Hill (and I hope it expands on what use he found for the belt his mother made him).

Picked up part 7, artwork superb as usual, writing was tight but overall it felt like they tried to go too quickly, like they really skimped on the details. Solid 8/10 though.
It had some news in it too:
The next arc appears to be about Roland's journey home after the events of Gunslinger Born. We have to wait til Feb 08 for it :( Oh, and it's called The Long Road Home.

I've just read that news and was coming here to post it. :( Given that I don't read a lot of comics, that's one hell of a wait between arcs.

yeah, 6 months sucks, especially seeing as it continues the same story :(
I think it's prbably to do with tying in with King's schedule and also the amount of time it'll take to paint.
Btw, if anybody likes the painterly style, make sure you pick up Ghost Rider: trail of tears. Very similar in style and my god is it wonderful.

The gunslingers guidebook was uninteresting and frankly a waste of money. Had I opened it before buying it I'd have passed.
No new art. At all. Some pages have no art at all. Why the hell is it done in comic form when there's no art at all. What they should have done is released a damn book.

The first issue of the next arc, "The Long Road Home", is set to release in March '08.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6e/Longroad1.jpg
The Dark Tower: The Long Road Home is a monthly five-issue comic book mini-series, a prequel spin-off of Stephen King's sci-fi western novel series of the same name, set to debut in March 2008.
It is the second of five such miniseries based on those novels, following the 2007 miniseries The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born. It will depict the title character of Roland Deschain as he returns to Gilead.
Whereas The Gunslinger Born was largely based off the events of Wizard and Glass, The Long Road Home showcases mostly new material not found in any of the prior books. It will be written and illustrated by the same creative team as The Gunslinger Born, which includes writers Robin Furth and Peter David, and illustrator Jae Lee.

I'm glad this will be new material as the first mini while alright was merely rehash, and told me nothing I needed to know. The most worthwhile aspect of it were all the writings at the end of each story.

To be fair, the original arc was also designed to indoctrinate new readers into Roland's quest, so it really was the best place to begin (there was also some nice new material featuring Walter/Randall Flagg. It was brief, but it was still nice.)

Quite psyched about this one. My pull list has been flagging as of late (would be approaching zero if not for a few key books) so this will be a welcome addition.
Really set apart form the rest by the painterly style, can't get enough of the stuff!

I just picked up the first three issues of The Long Road Home last night. I can't wait to read them!
On a related note, The Long Road Home #1 was the best selling comic (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=16207) for the month of March. It beat out The New Avengers by 20,000 issues. Not a bad result for our boy Roland. :sniffle:

Darktower is amazing; the best artwork I've seen in a comic book.
