View Full Version : How did you get into Friday the 13th?

I always love to here how people get into the Friday the 13th/Jason movies!
Here's my own story:
When I was young I saw a couple of the Jaws films and monstermovies. I got an interest in scary films and I knew we had this videorental store intown wich was located in a bookstore.
So back in 1991(I was 9) whenever I was intown, I always payed a little visit to the horrorsection of this rentalstore. They had a huge selection of horrormovies, and becuase I was still to young to watch them(my parents didn't let me), I always wondered what was behind those mysterious covers.
There were 3 covers that I always looked at a little longer, these were Friday the 13ths 4,5 and 6. I loved those covers with that mask.
A few years later the store closed and we get this new videorental place. They didn't have those hockeymask movies, but they did had one with the same title "Friday the 13th", and it had a picture of a girl lying in a boat on the frontcover.
Sometime after this, when I was 13 years(!) old I rented Friday the 13th on a friday the 13th.(3x 13 hehe).
I loved the whole atmosphere in the movie, it was really scary.. but I was still wondering where that guy was I saw on those older videocovers.
This is how it all began.
Over the years I watched the sequels, and once I got online back in 1997 all I wanted to search for(on the old altavista search engine) was Friday the 13th. Eventually thats how I ended up in the F13 community.

Shit, I couldn't even tell you anymore at this point. I remember getting into NOES first (mostly due to Freddy's Nightmares--go figure), and my dad told me about Friday the 13th. I guess I just rented one of the films from my local store (I want to say it was TFC). To be honest, I have no clue how I eventually saw all of the films. USA Up All Night and TNT Monstervision helped a lot though, I'm sure.

When I was 7 I remember my brother renting Friday The 13th Part 6 Jason Lives. I remember him telling me to go to bed and to get to my room. I recall the opening scene from the film. The way I saw it two old men (lol) dug up a body and stabbed it and it got struck by lightning and came back to life and killed one of them. This was some cool, yet scary shit! I would tell my class mates about it at school haha.
I was scared shitless so my brother sent me to bed. He was babysitting at the time. I went to bed or played in my room or something, but I could hear the sounds of people screaming and yelling and a motor boat going off sometime later. At that time I assumed it was a chainsaw. I would peak from my room and he would get mad at me and keep telling me to go to bed. One scene that stuck out in my mind forever since I was 7 had to be the scene with Paula and the little camper. The way I saw it as a 7 year old was a mother and her daughter... I knew that, that actress was too old to be a teenager! Funny how I saw things as a little kid.. I don't remember anything else...
--
When I was 10 years old I had a friend named Celeste who was probably 12. Celeste told me about Jason and we talked about the movies. Celeste told me some gorey kills and some scary parts of the films. She even told me the ways that the people from the films had tried to kill Jason, but no matter what he would NEVER die. This scared me to death! We never actually watched them together, but she would tell me stories because she watched them. She introduced me to the NES video game and we would play it with the lights off... Pretty scary shit for us kids :D We were scared shitless then, but now it's like "haha stupid sexy teenagers". I would walk home alone from her place and be scared of Jason... I had a fear of him at that time.
---
When I was 13, 14, I eventually rented all of the films on VHS from one of those Mom and Pop video rental places that have since become extinct. I think the first one that I truly seen from beginning to the end was the first film followed by a random peking order... No wait, the first film from the bunch that I seen was part 6. Followed by like 7, 8 and 5... Whatever, I can't really recall because I saw them all in a fucked up order. Eventually I saw Jason X and thought how funny it was and how it wasn't scary compared to the other films. I eventually saw the films in a different light. The ones that actually scared me were the first and the third ones.
I watched the first one at my Aunt's house when I was about 13. She lives in the country so it was chilling. The third one gave me a nightmare because of the end sequence. I saw it on television around Halloween time. Anyway, now they're tame to me because I've seen them so much.
Anyway thats my tale.

I've told this story before, but it's a new forum.
I first became familiar with the films around 1982 or so. I don't know the exact details of how I knew about them, but I was well aware of Jason Voorhees and his infamous hockey mask. As well as the "Ki...ki...ki...ma...ma...ma..." and thinking it was "Ch...ch...ch...ha...ha...ha..." I caught a bit of the first film's finale with Jason popping out of the lake, when I was flipping channels past HBO in 1983 or 84. I remember seeing Siskel and Ebert review "A New Beginning" in 85. I saw the music video "He's Back" when "Jason Lives" came out, the following year. I caught the trailers for TNB and JTM, when they were released in theaters. I was even aware that perhaps the series might go to 13.
But it wasn't until 1988, I wanna say, that I finally saw a film all the way through. That was "A New Beginning". A couple of months later, I saw "Jason Lives." Then I did "The New Blood" in 89 and "Jason Takes Manhatten" in 90. It wasn't until September of 1991 when HBO had a double feature on Friday The 13th, that I finally got to see the first two films. A couple of weeks later, I was able to get my mom to rent the third film for me. I rented "The Final Chapter" when "Jason Goes To Hell" came out on video. I got those from a "Mom and Pop" video store, so I got to see the unrated version of JGTH. Save for "Jason X" and "Freddy Vs Jason", I saw the rest on video or HBO.
A friend of mine growing up, he got the NES game for Christmas of 89 when he got an NES that year. So I enjoyed playing that and watching him play it. Then I got my own copy in 91. He also had a knock-off mask, though it looked more like the character of Casey Jones than Jason Voorhees. A classmate and occassional friend, he had a more accurate looking mask and even had a pair of coveralls, which he wore on Halloween in 90.

I think back in 1989, when I was just four years old, Cinemax showed The Final Chapter and A New Beginning back-to-back on Friday the 13th. Somebody taped it. I don't remember if I saw them when they originally aired or if I first saw them via the tape, but I believe that's the origin of my Friday fandom. I eventually caught up with the rest on HBO and Cinemax, as well as numerous showings on USA Network and TNT. May have rented some of them back then, too.

I was 14 years old and my cousin rented part 3 for us to watch later on that night. It was my first horror movie so I was very nervous, and the day seemed to drag on the more I thought about the movie. I was excited, nervous, a whole ball of emotions... then we watched it and I LOVED IT!!!
I don't remember covering my eyes during the bloody/scary scenes - I just took it all in. Better than any rollercoaster ride I've ever been on.

I seen part 3 when I was about 8 or 9 and it scared the shit out of me.
I was in a local mom and pop owned video store called Cinerama Video. I saw a copy of the video game for nes brand new for $5 and bought it because the cover looked awesome. Then when I was in day camp I went into Jason Goes to Hell, when everyone else was going to see some other movie. It scared me, but I liked it. There you go. 15 years later here I am. :D

I saw part 1 in theatres, it was pretty good, but I kinda started getting into FT13 when I saw part 3 (in 3-D) in theatres (I had skipped part 2 from a lack of interest, which was a big mistake on my part), but I truly got into the series when I saw part 4 when it came out of video

Pretty simple. Back in the 80s they would always show Jason on TV whenever they could. I saw little bits and pieces from lots of the different F13s, so I knew about them, but I hadn't really watched them. One of my earliest reccolections is of seeing part 7 on TV when the guy goes down to the kitchen and nearly slips on the floor. Everyone saw Jason stalking up behind him and said, "Ooh! What do you think's going to happen?"
I said, "Jason'll slip on the floor!"
Everyone busted up laughing and that's pretty much how it went. I never thought the Friday flicks were scary, but they were entertaining and fun, so there you go.

I joined the horror scene way late in life, I'd watched them sure, but never really enjoyed them much.
Then I had a 4-wheeler accident and broke 3 vertebrae in my back and was laid up for almost a year while they healed. So I got into watchin horror movies. Then I found the original forum and made tons of friends there who helped guide me into the right F13 films to watch.
Old Boo was my first teacher and he led me down an awesome path with F13 as well as other horror.
So yeah, that's my lame story.

My aunt loves horror movies. When I was a kid, she would take me to see all of them. I saw Jaws, Halloween, F13, TCM, Town, that Dreaded Sundown, My boody Valentine , etc, in theaters. Yes , all of the really old stuff:). So, I have seen all the F13s' in theaters. I love the genre, but the remake kick has got to stop.

When I was about 6 I looked in that months issue of the HBO and Cinemax Guide some month in 1990 and saw a picture of part 8 with Jason standing by the billboard and that got me interested right away. A month or two later Part 6 was on HBO and I talked my parents into tapeing it for me and I watched it and was hooked ever since. This was the order I saw them in: Part 6, Part 8, Part 7, Part 1, Part 2, Part 5, Part 4, Part 3, JGTH, Jason X and FvsJ. It was funny I even started collecting Fangoria's with Friday The 13th in them when I was 7. Took the last issue that Part 8 was in that was titled More Freddy More Jason and my 1st grade teacher was stunned when she saw I had that in class. Lol.:p It was funny two because that was pretty much the order that I got the autographs of the Jason actors at the Strongsville Cinema Wasteland convention back in 06 when Kane and all them were there. I got CJ Graham's autograph first, then Kane, and so on. I didn't do it on purpose either. Just the way it happened.

Yeah really kinda makes me think of how last month on Friday The 13th they had part 7 on and after that part 3. Big difference between Jason's in that case. Fortunitly though after part 3 they had part 7 on again. Hopefully for the new comers they watched 3 first then 7 that night.

I don't mind them mixing them up. I myself never watch the entire movie when they are on TV (or any movie really). I usually just catch part of one and usually end up flipping it.
Most "newcomers" probably won't care either way either.

You can come into the films like the fifth or seventh one, and not know everything. The only confusing thing with the seventh one, is how Jason is a corpse. But that's what the recap of the first six films are for.

I was 8 years old.....i'm 21 now! I went to the Blockbuster after school one day. I was looking through the horror section. When I got to Friday the 13th, I just loved the cover so much I HAD to see it, based on the cover. At that time, I wasn't familiar with Jason, so I didn't know what to expect.
I actually saw that they were also selling movies too. I noticed that they were selling F13 for $9.99, so I asked my mom to buy it for me. :) When I put it on, I remember being so scared. I've been watching horror movies my whole life, but at that time, I hadn't seen anything like it before.

last month on Friday The 13th they had part 7 on and after that part 3
I often wonder about people who have their first F13 experiences on TV. Not only are they often shown out of order but very edited too. But I suppose the average viewer doesn't care about the "saga." They watch for the cheese factor.
My first time came when I was 9 and the original came on a local station uncut. I will never forget it because my step mom was sleeping on the sofa right behind me. If she awoke and saw what I was watching, she would have put me over her knee! So I kept turning to look at her every few seconds to make sure she was still asleep. Ah, those were good times. It's good to be so bad! :side:

I dont remember the year or anything but I know my first movie was Part 6.
Bakc in the day, my family would record every single movie they could. We had a HUGE tape collection complete with its own numbering system and everything. Anyway, one of the tapes (number 16, which I still remember to this day. Ghostbusters was no 33) had part 6 on it. We had no other films in the series but 6, and I would watch it religiously. I know the film, scene for scene by heart, and I'll still sit down and watch it if its on tv, its got that nostalgia thing going for it now-a-days.
I got into the rest of the series via USA during one of their late-night marathons. I remember being in Puerto Rico visiting family one year as a kid and staying inside in the heat to watch everysingle one (which was only up to 7 or 8 at that point). I still remember my aunt asking me why I wanted to sit there and watch these films, she assumed I had seen every single one already.

I often wonder about people who have their first F13 experiences on TV.
After I saw part 3 on VHS at my cousin's place, a few weeks later on ITV they showed parts 1 and 2 after midnight and I taped them even though I was sure there were some deleted scenes. I watched and studied those edited movies like crazy until I was able to rent them at the video store.
My mom was going to write the TV station and give 'em shit for showing them, but heavy metal came onto the scene about that time, making horror movies appear tame to her. ;)

Some movies aren't edited as badly as others. I recall USA Network's cut of Part V only took out nudity. All the kills were uncut. The Evil Dead was also shown on USA one night (the first time I saw it) and, believe it or not, it was uncut. I was stunned when I eventually bought it and discovered there was no more gore than I'd seen on USA. Granted, they showed it at 2am but still.
My step-mom wouldn't let me watch anything R rated or often even PG-13. My horror experiences as a young kid were limited to Godzilla movies and whatever I could sneak a peek at on TV. But my friends and I found a way to watch horror movies. There was a garden shed behind a friend's house and we put an old TV in it that one of our parents had thrown out and eventually a VCR. So we started watching all sorts of forbidden movies out there. Good times.

How I got into F13... Wow... That's a long story.
My dad passed away when I was around 4 or 5 years old (Around 1987 or early 88). He committed suicide. It was hard on us all. Prior to his suicide, my mom and dad had separated, which made things that much worse. Anyway, after that, my mom had to work more than she had before. She was working both day and night. I stayed at home with my Grandma.
Soon after, I found a video cassette with Part VI on it. So, I watched it. I wasn't scared by it and, in fact, I liked it a lot. I soon found more videotapes with other horror stuff on them, as well as most of the other F13 films. These films were basically my babysitters.
I've been hooked on them ever since.

My mother told me about Friday the 13th when I was 8 or 9 (?). She said she saw one, and felt sick to her stomach. (Part 3D!) When Freddy Vs Jason came out, I was hooked. Strange that a bad entry made me love it so. Although, it wasn't so bad when I first saw it.

I was a kid when VHS was taking off. My brother bought the house our first VCR and from that time I was hooked. At first we would rent whatever the video store had. I can honestly tell you I don't remember much about what we rented. But then a video store close to our house opened and I used to go there everyday after school. Anyway, that was at a time when ANOES part 2+ was coming out on video so I kinda got into ANOES first, but Friday the 13th soon followed.
To make a long story short, Friday the 13th part 6 came out and I begged every adult I knew to take me but no one would. So my dad rented me whichever Friday film I wanted. And I finally saw part 6 on vhs. And since those days, I've been into Friday films and horror in general. I was 8 years old when Friday 6 came out. hehe.

Sorry to hear about your dad, ChoKo. :(
And it hard to remeber how I got into F13th. Thought I think it might have been when I saw a trailer on tv of either part 3 or 5, but I'm not sure. I know it has to do with taking place in a barn, since I remeber seeing that. Also, I saw the tv spot for part 6 when it first came out & it got me interest despite being scare at that part where Jason on top of Liz before he impale her in the mouth. Not to mention seeing my fav. of all F13th movie poster in part 6 help. I started watching it when it came on Showtime (my parents wouldn't take me to them at that time, of course) & the rest is history. I wish I remeber how I got into it the first place, but this as far as I remeber. :p

I was at the theater watching a movie that was next door to the showing of part 5. I remember walking out of the first movie (when it ended) and sneaking into the other theater to catch the tail end of A New Beginning.
I only saw the scenes where Reggie's running through the forest and Roy pops out from the ambulance before I ducked out again, but that instant "rush", along with part 3 that I saw a few years prior, kept the fuel going until I was old enough to see part 7 on the big screen.
I wish I had seen more of part 5, but guilt crept in and I didn't want to get busted by the ushers. I used to frequent that particular theater lots and I didn't want to run the risk of being permanently kicked out.

Hmmm...I guess I should add more detail.
So a couple of weeks after watching Part 3 on TV and enjoying it,we went to blockbuster to rent a movie. I couldn't find anything so I decided to get Friday the 13th Part 2. They didn't have Part 2 so I ended up getting Jason Lives which still remains my favorite Friday the 13th movie. And eventually I rented the others until I'd seen them all.

Well me and my brother went through a huge stage of hiring out movies.
So we hired Friday the 13th. It was the movie about the guy with the hokey mask. We all knew he was. He was Jason.
So we hired part 1.
When i saw the 1st murder i cracked the joke that i would larf if all the deaths work like that. (Meaning all the deaths were in 1st person view and you never see the killer. Turns out that the joke came true)
Then we hired out 2 and 3. I thought finaly hes got the mask!
4 was just kick ass. It was both funny but still good old friday 13th.
We hired all the rest in order. I got a little annoyed when he became a 80s icon zombie.
And most of all, THEY WERE SO DAM CUT!
Every single death scene was cut like hell.

I first saw a Friday the 13th around 1990 or so at a friend's house. It was Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood. I was scared to death watching it but it still kept my attention. We also watched Halloween III: Season of the Witch around that time.
Fast forward to around 1994 or so when I was 11. I was at Wal-Mart with my family & saw that they had all of the Friday the 13th movies(first eight) for cheap so me being the spoiled kid that I am, asked if I could have a few. Instead of a few, my grandma bought all of them for me. I came home & immediately started watching them from the beginning. I enjoyed The Final Chapter the most. I seemed to watch it, Jason Lives, & The New Blood more than the other ones. I've been a fan of the series ever since.
The rest is bloody history.

Jason was my boogey man when I was a kid. I also saw adverts in the paper for the movies when they came out and they scared the hell out of me. I saw bits and pieces when I was a kid and saw the final Chapter at my cousin's house (I wasn't allowed to watch horror at home) and it really f'ed me up for a long time. I was probably 7 years old. When I became a teen, I caught up and really enjoyed them. As an adult, I still get freaked out from being in the woods, especially at night.

Which Fri 13th cover was it?
The original F13. :) It's still one of my all-time favorite covers.

I remember I was about 5 years old in Kindergarten back in 1990 and I was visiting my father. It must have been around Halloween time, because he had one of the TV Channels on that had several 'scary movies' as I referred to it back then. One of them was about a monster on a spaceship and it must have been Alien, and then later on during the night I remember seeing a glimpse of the television and seeing this girl in a canoe, and then this monster came up above the lake and grabbed her. After that, it was a few hours later that I remember seeing a girl in a cabin saying something like 'Jason your mother is talking to you!' I remember being so ungodly terrified of both of these films, and my father later explained to me that "Johnboy maybe one day to you can be Jason for Halloween like in Friday the 13th".
It was not until around 1996 when I saw the films again on Cinemax and remember the rather graphic murders such as the arrow through the neck and the axe in the face. From that point, the films (especially the original F13) still left me in a state of horror, but I became thrilled with horror films, and loved looking through them in the video store. I even tried emulating F13 on a little horror short I made in 1999, my first little feature with a standard camcorder. Since then of course, The F13 Films have that special little place in my heart with a passion for horror films. I suppose I have that Halloween spending with my father back in 1990 with relation to how Friday the 13th entered into my life.

I was about the start a thread asking which Friday film you saw first and what got you into the series, but this is pretty much the same the thread. :)
The first one I saw was TNB, well bits and pieces of it anyway, back when I was about 7. My brother borrowed it on VHS from a friend who had just rented it and I remember being scared out of my mind and having nightmares for a long time. I refused to watch another horror movie after that. My brother would torture me with horror movies by threatening to throw in Killer Klowns or something else in the VCR if I didn't do his bidding. At one point, I think I was about 13, I started to actually want to watch horror movies and Friday the 13th used to come on USA Network all the time. So the one I actually watched for the first time all the way through was the original and I remember being confused that it was Mrs. Voorhees and not Jason that was the killer. An obsession was born and I began to watch all of the Friday films I could get my hands on. I believe the last one I saw was part 6 because it would never come on TV so we ended up having to rent it. Ah, memories....
When I was younger there was a marathon on USA that showed parts 6, 7, & 8. I remember watching that which got me into the series and I rented a lot of them, but I didn't join the forum until FvJ.

I literally watched Friday the 13th Part 3 on a whim. My Mom said I can watch a movie with her that night, and I get to pick. I was 8 years old at the time, and Part 3 was just coming The crazy disco music just caught my ear and I asked her to leave it on. I was hooked from that day foward, even though my Mom said I was never allowed to watch another till I was 18. Yeaaaa ooooooookay...

TNB was the first one I ever saw too. And I was 7 when I first watched it. :)
The first time I was exposed to these was around 7 or 8, I'd taken up an interest in Godzilla and giant monsters, which I'd forgotten as I'd gotten older, particularly I was going through a phase focused on Frankenstein, Dracula and the Mummy. Anyway, my parents told me about the old "Halloween" movies and one day my dad showed me one - it was Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan. I wasn't interested, it was near the climax, so I saw no kills and figured he was just some random dude. Didn't care.
A few years later it was Halloween time and everyone spoke of Jason, Freddy, Alien and Predator, and I was the one going 'WTF?' constantly. So one day I asked the local horror buff how to draw Jason during free time. All he could describe was the hockey mask - which was accurate except the holes being too random and the fact he was basically a giant shadow with a hock and a 'machett' (sword). Freddy, on the other hand, was pretty accurate except he had cat-eyes and the way I drew his scars was terrible.
Anyway, it was a year or two after THAT after I picked up Freddy vs. Jason at the store. I was reluctant to do so, and ironically, it was my squeamish mother, the one who saw Halloween 78 in theaters and didn't remember a single detail of the plot, who convinced me to go see it. Me and a friend who'd seen it watched it together. It was incredible at the time, although the only gore scene that truly, truly spooked me was the nose scene. I was used to blood.
That Christmas I got the Crystal Lake box set, 1-8, and watched Part VIII for nostalgia, and then Parts 1-7 in order. TFC proved to be my most enjoyed film of them, and p6 I found most boring at the time. A year or so later I recorded Jason X and watched it, and although I loved the 'present' sequences, I hated all of the futuristic stuff and when I saw Uber-Jason...I was bent between 'awesome' and 'EPIC PHAILURE'. It was awesome, but it wasn't what it was intended to be, it was NOT Jason.
I rewatched part 6 a few months ago and enjoyed it a lot, it's up-there now. I've also been planning on rewatching parts 2 and 3. I still have yet to see JGTH, I'm sorrowful to admit. They refuse to even rent unrated films to minors. The video store had no damn normal version, and I see little reasoning in feeling free to sell R-rated movies but not unrated movies to kids or anything.
Anyway, that's my long, boring-ass story. If you're still reading this, congragulations, you have an attention span of 180% :D
I saw part 1 on tv as my intro to ;ason. The scence of him jumping out of the lake scared the hell out of me. (2nd scariest scence ever next to the library scene in ghostbusters). !eing that I was a child at the time, it was intense. I saw the back cover of part 7 in the video store and was fascinated by ;ason ever since.

Wow, I have absolutely no idea anymore. The very first slasher franchise I was introduced to was Halloween, and I was a die hard fanboy. That series became my entire life (I know, I'm lame). I believe I was at a video store trying to rent a Halloween movie, and none were there, so one of the employees recommended the original Friday the 13th. Needless to say, I enjoyed it. After that, I rented all of them and watched the entire series chronologically!

I have pretty much been into horror for as far back as I can remember
as you can tell by now that my heroes are Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees
I love the way they stalk their prey and manipulate them into doing stupid things that get them killed.
I always root for them even though they get taken down (temporarily) but keep coming back for more
Jason : the unstoppable killing tank
Michael : the silent stalker equally unstoppable like a shark killing all
whom cross his path

For me it was way back in 2002, when I first saw a TV Spot for Jason X. Despite the film itself, the TV spots did their job and made the movie look good. I tried to get to the cinema to see it, but was a little too young at the time. So I looked it up online, and found the old forum.
I discovered that this movie was part of a series, and best of all I knew all about it (well, I thought I knew all about it). The movies are individually mentioned in a massive horror movie book I had, focusing on horror movies ranging from the birth of cinema to about 1994. So I knew who Jason was, kinda...
I bought The Final Chapter and VIII on VHS, I watched them and enjoyed them. And eventually I got the whole lot of them on DVD (twice).

I grew up watching horror movies with my mom back in the early 80s.
We had showtime back in '81-'84. One of my favorites was the F13 franchise. Bach then, the only movies available were parts 1-3. I think many will agree, that these were some of the very best entries in the franchise.
I still watch these movies to this day. I managed to watch part 5, 6, & 8 in the theaters. I will probably continue to see each and every movie made, including the remake. Jason Voorhees is, hands down, my favorite villian in any series. While I consider the original Halloween and NOES to be better than any entry in the series (with the exception of F13 part 2), the F13 series is easily my favorite.
I found the original entries to be quite scary and thrilling to watch as a young boy, so I've been watching these movies ever since in hopes to catch the original feeling of being scared (so far, it hasn't happened, but I did enjoy the final chapter and Jason Lives). :)

The first one I can remember seeing is part 5. My sister's would always rent horror and I'd be trying to check 'em out. The opening scene with Tommy and Jason coming out of the grave just seemed so badass to me...I still love that scene.

That's funny. I'm sure I said it here maybe on some page way back, but my sister got me into horror also. She took me and my nephew to see Friday 5 at a drive in. And she also rented A Nightmare on Elm Street for all of us. (My 2 other sisters, herself, my nephew, and myself.)

My brother got me into horror. Im not sure if this was posted in a different thread...but my brother had a bunch of horror movies he would let me watch when he had to watch me. He had a tape with a WWF Saturday nigth main event on it, the Last American Virgin, and Friday the 13th part 2 on it. The Friday the 13th part 2 was recorded off of ABC...of all channels. ABC would never show movies like this anymore.
And I still have the tape, and it still works. Im keeping it for sentimental purposes. I just can't believe it's still in such good condition...the tape has to be at least 20-23 years old. It's a Basf tape...

It's okay, Halloween became my life at one point. I was home schooled when I ws 14 and 15 and I was so obsessed with Halloween, I had a ritual where I had to watch Part I or Part II at last once a day...;) I think I can still quote the movie word for word.

TNB was the first one I ever saw too. And I was 7 when I first watched it. :)
A lot of people I have talked to say this one or JTM were the first ones they saw... I wonder why that is...

My two older brothers were big into them. I watched bits of like 2, 3, and 5. I was way too afraid of them at first, especially Part V. What's strange is, I saw Part VI in the theater, and I don't remember it scaring me all that much, except maybe the opening.
Around late 1987/early 1988, I became very interested in watching the other ones, overcoming my fear, etc. Especially Part V, because that seemed like the one they were always renting up until that point, and as I said, it scared me the most. I finally watched all of Part V, and loved it. I started watching all of them in 1988, and became a huge fan at a very young age.

I think for me it's because my friend's mom taped it off a premium movie channel & since it was one of the newer entries at the time, it was playing a buttload of times so they decided to record it.
He also had a tape of Halloween 3, which I hated at the time but love nowadays. :D
I was 3 when Jason Lives came out on VHS. My older sister rented it, I was in the room when she started watching it. Jason came out of his grave and I was terrified and hooked in the same moment.

Well I have a pretty cool mom. We used to stay up late on the weekends when i was a kid. We would watch the Friday films, Nightmare films, Freddy's Nightmares. Tales from the Crypt. But Friday was always my favorite. Hell by the time I was 5 i had seen every Friday movie that was out at that point (1-8).

I was raised around horror movies. My mom never sheltered me from them, so that makes her pretty badass in my book. She loved the F13 series, and that's pretty much how I got into them. My mom used to rent all the movies on VHS and we would watch them together (I'm an only child, so I didn't have to worry about siblings and shit).

I moved in with my fiancee about two years ago. When I started to live with him, and noticing that he had a large collection of horror movies, I told him that I absolutely could not stand movies like those and I wouldn't be going anywhere near them.
Well somewhere down the road he noticed my fascintion with Survival Horror videogames and the question came up that, if I couldn't stand scary movies, how could I be okay with incredibly scary and violent games? I simply told him that I love Survival Horror for the thrill, not for the gore and he seemed to accept that at first, but the question kept coming up, especially considering how bloody games like Fatal Frame and Silent Hill can be. Then he say my fascination with CSI and he just couldn't accept it anymore, he was going to sit me down and make me watch a Friday the 13th movie.
As much as I told him I didn't want to, he started me off with Freddy vs Jason. He said it was probaby the easier of the series for me to watch. Then he had me watch Jason X. I kind of liked the movies, so he gave me the entire box sex and I watched each and every movie. I got myself hooked by Part 1.
Now I'm not so hesitant to sit down with him when he wants to watch a Horror Movie. I'm still a bit iffy on certain movies though.

like so many other kids i had known about Jason Voorhees well before ever seeing any Friday the 13th movie. I always wanted to see them but my parents would never rent them for me at the time. it wasn't till i was in 6th grade that i finally seen my first Friday the 13th movie. As i recall it was there was a Frday the 13th in september of that year and USA had a mini marathon on that night consisting of A New Beginning (which is the 1st one i saw) followed by The New Blood and Jason Takes Manhattan. Part 5 was played again after JTM. I stayed up till 4 in the morning for the 1st time ever watching and loving every bit of it.

Got into F13 this year, actually. I saw the trailer for the reboot on Youtube that was from Comic-Con and it got me pumped up, and I went to see it opening day. And from that day on, I've been a fan. I've seen all of the films, watched every interview I possibly could, and have spent a lot of time finding out as much information about the series as possible.

fuck, its been so long but i remember it very vividly, even more so than many of my other childhood memories. I remember discovering F13 back in 89' i was 5 yrs old, i was being babysat by *i still remember her name* denise williams. She was a horrible babysitter, and she didnt watch me at all, which leads me to wandering in my parents room. I saw this black thing inside a VCR and pushed it in, and HOLY SHIT, this movie came on midway through and i saw a killer in a hockey mask just mash some dude's head into the shower wall. This movie was F13: TFC. I sat in awe on my parents floor in the dark, horrified but i couldnt turn away. I watched the rest of this movie (seeing as my babysitter was asleep) And i saw a stack of other movies and popped in another. the next one was part 1 and i had no clue these movies were connected at that age. I remember falling asleep in my parents room and being woken up by them too getting an ass chewing for being in their bedroom. The next day i asked what the first movie i watched was, my mom said dont worry about it, but my dad on the other hand explained all of it to me and showed me the rest and introduced me into a life of horror. My Dad in a way is responsible for fucking me up. haha. My mother was 21 in 1989 and my dad was 22. They were practically still kids in a sense.

i can remember my friend down the street whose parents basically worked 24/7 so they were never around nor did they care what we watched on TV (as opposed to my parents who were on some bullshit) so i would be chilling at his spot on weekend nights and the Friday movies back then (early 90s) were ALWAYS on in marathon sequences, especially on an actual friday the 13th so that's when I first started seeing them. The one I most remember from back in those days was Part 8, which of course is the one people seem to hate on the most. As it was, that became my favorite Friday movie since it always seemed to be the one that was on. I feel like Part 7 was on a lot back then too but I specifically remember seeing Part 8 a whole bunch of times and loving the series from that point on
