Yep, it's a Warner Brothers release, so it'll be on HD-DVD and Blu-ray.

Love this movie... love movies shot on location in the South.

How odd...I just posted on another board this morning in a thread about Deliverance. The original poster questioned why so many people thought it was a great movie, and the criticism basically devolved to "why would the rapists choose Ned Beatty over Jon Voight?" I posted that it wasn't about fucking Ned, it was about breaking Voight.

Still, I think it's one of the better American films, and very effective at what it does. This is, I hear, one of the few instances where the movie is better than the novel.

It's very effective... as for the rape, I'm sure the rape was more or less (IMO) to target the weakest man of the gang and that was Ned.

A point of interest (well, to me, anyway): James Dickey, who wrote the original novel and appears in the film as the sheriff was an alumnus of the school I'm attending now.

Anyway, I'm a pretty big fan of this one. I like just about anything dealing with backwoods people (and it's probably why I like the portrayal of Jason in part 2 so much better than what he eventually became--but that's for another discussion). I'm looking forward to picking it up on BD later this month.

After years of having the film lifted to the point of near mythic proportions I was terribly disappointed after watching it. Maybe I missed something, I'm not sure but it just didn't work for me. Maybe I'll buy the new DVD and watch it again and see if it improves upon further viewing but for now I'm not impressed.

Thing is some people just don't get the movie. It's definitely a hit or miss, and I can see why a lot of people get nothing from it. It's a basic movie... a boating trip, a rape, and revenge. There's not much else to it.

I don't know if there is much to get about the film, like you said it's a basic movie. I just didn't find it suspenseful and for the most part I found it quite boring.

I found the movie to be good. Not sure I'd buy it on DVD, but I'd rent it again.

Same here. However, I enjoyed it more after further viewings.

Gotta love those mountain men:

"Where you goin' city boy?"

"He's got a real purty mouth, ain't he?"

"It ain't nothin' but the biggest fuckin' river in the state."

:D

After my friend and I saw it for the first time, for a while we greeted each other with mountain men quotes from the film, trying to duplicate the tones and accents. Those were good times.
