It seems to be early days, but Wes Craven is kicking around (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/15356) the idea of once again taking us back out into the unmapped desert, beyond the towns and roads, where the hills still have eyes...

there is new talk of a third film in the franchise and Craven knows exactly where he wants to take it...

“There's discussion about a possible Hills 3 and we’ll take it in a totally different direction,” while also explaining that the film will not go straight-to-disc, “I'm not interested in doing straight-to-video. If it can't make it in theaters then…"

He continues talking about his ideas for a third film in the franchise that focuses on a mutant civilization living on through the ages after being radiated by atomic tests in the nearby desert.

"There are a lot of good movies still in that concept," he explains, "you know The Outsiders and I’d like to flip it actually and have them integrated a little into our society and run into prejudice or something…because they have this ability to survive anything, maybe be recruited by the society that’s about to throw them out.”

Eh, I'll probably see it. Loved the remake, didn't really like the sequel, but I didn't hate it.

I'm a fan of these movies so I'll definitely see it. But I don't like the idea of integrating them into society. But I can see where another family/group of people lost in the mountains would get a little tired.

I really hope this would follow the remake and not the sequel.

I pretty much worship Craven, so I'll see this no matter what. But damn....that idea sounds terrible.

Imagine HHE3 really does integrate these mutants into society? it'll be like the fuckin' Mummy/Werewolf/Frankenstein skit from Chapelle's Show. I'd laugh.

Didn't like 2 (or even Craven's original Part 2) and that idea is like, Rob Zombie bad. So, I will probably pass if this ever comes to fruition.

Sounds like one I'd pass on. I think HHE ought to remain a nasty exploitation series and he doesn't have the touch for that anymore.

I mean, I'm not saying I want to see a Zombie HHE, but I'm definitely not interested in a message film about prejudice.

It just sounds like part 2 all over again, why don't they just finish it and have like an army going in to hunt them down and wipe them out, like they should know thats there mutants there and there task is to seek and destroy

It's certainly going to be more difficult to come up with soemthign different, although seeing the mutants start to venture closer to society could be interesting.

Would this be the first remake to spawn two sequels if this happened?

You know what...I remember I enjoyed the remake and the sequel, but nothing about them warranted repeated viewings from me. I caught them both when they premiered on cable, and will probably do the same with this one.

Well, The Grudge now has two sequels, but one of those is direct to video. So it's merit may be debatable, but it does exist.

There was the UK satire/homage Unmasked Part 25 that made no attempt to hide the fact that the hockey mask wearing, Shakespeare reciting murderer was supposed to be Jason. It was actually a pretty damn good flick :)

I believe there is a Hindi version of A Nightmare on Elm Street titled Khooni Murda . I have never seen it though.

Since it was of about the same quality as the ones in theatres, I'd say its merit counts.

I haven't seen the first two or the original(WHAT!?) but I may give the remake & its sequel a watch one of these days.

I have the 2-disc version from Anchor Bay of the original The Hills Have Eyes but haven't got around to watching it yet.

Notti, watch that shit. I'd seen the flick before I bought that SE, and even I didn't hesitate to watch that shit when I got it. Good flick. The original sequel on the other hand... :X

Craven Lining Up Horror Quartet (http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news/topnews.php?id=9743)

In the coming year, Midnight Entertainment - Wes Craven's production company - is going to be busy. This month will see the release of The Last House on the Left, the second remake from the early days of his career that he produced. The success of this film will determine the fate of four other projects brewing at Midnight.

"We're going to be exploring new avenues," Craven told me over the weekend. "The Hills Have Eyes 3, we have a concept for which is really fun. A possible sequel to The Last House on the Left, then The People Under the Stairs and Shocker. That's it for the films we somewhat own. The first two I own with one other guy. People and Shocker Universal owns. But if I say, 'No, don't make it' they can't make it."

Out of this quartet, the third chapter in the Hills franchise - kicked off by Alex Aja in 2006 - is the closest to coming to fruition. Craven says he's currently talking to another European filmmaker who he believes has the chops to carry the ongoing saga about a mutant, inbred family and the poor souls that cross their path. Hills 3 would mark this unknown director's American debut. But will Fox Atomic be co-producing?

"Fox Atomic has a first look deal and they have passed on it," Craven reveals. "The reason is because of the deal. They have the right of first refusal but if someone else wants to do it, Fox has the right to come in and match that deal. For them, it's smarter to have us go find someone that will say yes, then come in see if they can top it."

I find it kind of funny that Craven says they're going to explore "new avenues," which apparently means "we're gonna make sequels to and remake old shit." :doggy:

At least, I assume those will be remakes to Shocker and People Under the Stairs. I'd shit if we got sequels to those though, especially Shocker. You bet your ass I'd be there opening night. :X

I don't know about horror films, but they do remake a lot of our stuff: off of the top of my head, Law & Order has been remade for France and Englund, and Spider-Man had a live-action TV series in Japan (and the comic has been remade in a couple of countries).

I beleive there is also a Brazillian version of Star Wars.

I found that kind of amusing as well.

Like when they brought military awareness into part 2 (along with Jonathan Craven co-writing), Craven's "recruited by society" line makes me think they might be building up to using Jonathan's mid-90s Hills 3 idea (which evolved into Mind Ripper) of the military capturing some hill-dwellers to study their survival skills.

Quite possibly, I was just hoping they were gonna send an army of soldiers and find there little society and have a huge fight

Wes Craven Talks "Hills Have Eyes 3" (http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=19189&count=0)

Early last year, Wes Craven revealed that a third installment in "The Hills Have Eyes" franchise was being discussed. Obviously nothing happened. So when I rant into the director yesterday, I (Alex) asked for an update.

"That was during the period where we were developing lots of ideas," he explained. "Since we own that franchise, some of the partners were very interested in doing that and I have an idea for it. But then we went off with another writer, and he developed things, and we did pitches, and it never worked out. And I came to an epiphany that you can generate your own totally original things and that's what you should be doing with your time."

So, is the franchise dead? "I don't know if it's dead or not, but I have no real interest in doing another remake," said Craven. "If I have a choice between doing that and doing something original, [a remake] just doesn't make any sense for me. In order to do it right, you spend a lot of time developing the script and finding the director and then keeping an eye on post-production. You spend almost as much time as if you were making your own film. So why not make your own film?"

Since Craven owns the property and has no interest in developing another installment, I asked if he would consider selling the rights to it again for another filmmaker to tackle it. "I don't know, I just don't think about it frankly," he said.

Regarding the idea that he had for the third film, the director previously explained: "I'd like to flip it and have [the mutants] integrated a little into our society and run into prejudice."

Wasn't Sideshow Bob supposed to be the director on this ? I heard the rumor a few years ago.
